Just as a heads up, the installation instructions for installing with Forge in the original post do work with forge 777, but as of 781 (the current latest build) they added another check to make sure the jar isn't modded, so once again optifine and forge don't work together.
Oddly enough, I've actually lost FPS with Optifine installed. Is there any reasoning for this at all?
If you're definitely losing frames with optifine, try looking up some guides on how to allocate more memory. Will make your game not crash, and help out with chunk loading.
I have tried installing this into a working Forge .jar, installing it through the mods folder, installing it to the Forge .jar through Magic Launcher, installing it and Forge to a blank .jar through Magic Launcher, and installing it and Forge through MCPatcher. NONE of them work. Forge works fine, but Optifine doesn't even get recognized in the log through Magic Launcher, and with the normal launcher it seems as though it skips over it, or it just crashes.
I just downloaded Optifine 1.6.2 HD U A2 and added it to my Magic Launcher 1.1.6 which is compatible with Minecraft 1.6.1 as I have been using it for Rei's Minimap and its telling me that Optifine is "not compatible". Why isn't it working, am I missing something?
(Previous Optifine 1.5.2 HD D3 work perfectly this way)
Maybe you should update to 1.6.2 MC or maybe since theres rei's you need modloader or something idk d;
when i run minecraft 1.6.2 with optifine it just shows this:

Optifine actually decreased my fps... Regularly I have about 115 fps, but OptiFine dropped it down to an average of 30 The older versions worked, but not this one!

awesome...this entire 1.6.2 update killed it for me.
Went from an average of 40 FPS with 1.5.2 with optifine and most graphics options all of the way up, to an average of 11FPS without optifine with everything turned down to minimum. Then with optifine, everything turned to minimum, averaging 2 FPS. What the actual flip.
After having issues with purple/black and red/black blocks instead of the proper textures I double checked everything and made sure I had a fresh download of A2.
Trouble is I seem to still be having the same trouble! Half my blocks are showing up like that. I'm running Biomes'O'Plenty but Optifine and BoP have never had an issue before. I have the most current of everything, so far. I'm not sure why this is still happening to me. =C
Just thought I'd drop in and say thanks to the modders who make this mod possible. After playing 1.6 for a few days without Optifine I really realized how much I need it. I really appreciate you all managing your mod, this post and your enormous fanbase.
The AA/AF are still being worked on. Since this is a preview, the performance isn't going to be perfect.
I'm not much of a trouble-shooting expert but I know the new update completely changed how textures load. Maybe that's slowing it down? Here are possible troubles with the preview
1. FPS does NOT increase, it slows minecraft(for me). Maybe something that has always worked with texture packs that the mod maker uses no longer works for resource packs?(again, I'm not a good trouble-shooter).
2. Since HD resource packs can run without optifine or mc patcher with decent speeds, maybe optifine is trying to patch what is already fine. Therefore, slowing minecraft down.
3. I have never had good luck with the HD Ultra version of optifine. My graphics in minecraft have always glitched with HD Ultra. It was annoying then but now it seems to be affecting my performance. :(.
Those are my thoughts of what might be happening. I think problem number two may be causing minecraft to slow down since there is no need for an HD patcher anymore with these new Resource packs
Ditto. Seems to be always 100+ chunks loading and memory consumption is really high (400MB vs my usual 100-128MB).
If you're definitely losing frames with optifine, try looking up some guides on how to allocate more memory. Will make your game not crash, and help out with chunk loading.
BTW I'm on a Mac
Maybe you should update to 1.6.2 MC or maybe since theres rei's you need modloader or something idk d;
what's the problem?
