Magic Launcher will need an update in order to load the new OptiFine jars directly.
You can still use it with Forge and put OptiFine in the mods folder.
I tried this, but Minecraft crashes when I do. I installed Forge as per the usual instructions, dropped the OptiFine .jar in the mods folder, and launched the game with the Forge profile. Crash. Now, not being sure which I was supposed to use, I tried this with the "preview_OptiFine_1.9.0_HD_U_A4_pre.jar" and with the extracted "OptiFine_1.9_HD_U_A4_pre_MOD.jar" but both caused the same crash. If it helps, I'm using the OS X version.
I think you should wait for 1.9.1. It'll be released in two days. Maybe it's better to fix something.
I'm pretty sure that 1.9.1 doesn't change anything that he's been working on. It's mostly changes to the combat system concerning the cooldown. Shouldn't take him long to get that stuff merged with what is done already.

(I made an iron helmet that changes into a creeper mask when named "Creeper Mask" but only the icon texture changed.)
i don't entirely know what im doing wrong here but im just selecting the newest optifine (a4 pre) in the mods list of the magic launcher and it keeps showing a "no mods found" in status part
(if im forgetting something really simple here im sorry)
You have to run the Optifine installer (the one you already have) and choose "Extract" to get the mod.jar file.
Then you can use this mod.jar file in Magic Launcher like always.

That's not a bug with Optifine. The texture pack you're using is the cause. You can use this, rename it to icons.png and put it in the gui folder of the texture pack.

A 'pain in the butt' solution for now, but this is also what I am doing to avoid the Optifine A4/Forge 1797+ crashing. Works fine doing it this way.
