I love this mod, but it doesn't work!
I have no other mods at all installed, but when I install this mod along with the latest version of the Turbo Modeler and I've tried v4 and v5 of Risugami's modloader. But whenever I login, it gives me a black screen.
What am I doing wrong?
Are you using a texture pack? There's a chance that you may have to change the size of the item icons to match the size of the texture pack.
I've tried changing the size of the item icons to fit my 32x32 pack, but it doesn't work. Is there any way you can make a 32x32 version?

I spent 3 minecraft days killing enough cows to make wheels. i finaly finished and placed my plane on a sandy plain. it wont do anything. any suggestions.
Great mod. I know this has already been said, but the speed is definitly lacking.
suggestions:
increased speed
increased propeler speed
small lights on the wings (maybe light level 2 or 4) that fade in and out like a real plane. purpose: see the extent of your wings in the dark
helicopter: easier and faster take off's and rotation, harder handling and requires more skill to control
cargo plane: holds 2 double chests, requires a longer time to get to speed in order to take off
kamakazie plane: includes tnt in the recipe, explodes when crashed (for the dar devils that like to see how close they can swoop to the ground)
bomber: shoots arrows down (arrows might catch the area where it hit on fire, explode on inpact, leave a torch, or shoot a arrow that splits off into X other arrow in mid air)
U.A.V. : you acces the plane through a block (like you do with chests and beds) and you control the plane remotly and you see waht it see's
dual engine plane: stays in the air longer when no propulsion is given
R.C. plane: small plane about the size of a chicken, that you control with and item (remote control) and the plane is for entertainment only, and after x blocks the reception dies and the plane falls at which point you must retreive it
Fighter jet: faster turning, faster speed, needs more space to slow down in order to stop, less hp, a rechargeable boost from gunpowder or coal
With the exception of the cargo plane because it's already on the todo list of the mod, I fear you're losing sight of the mods capabilities and what minecraft can actually offer. There's nothing wrong with the suggestions, just more suggestions then ways to actually implement them. Then you have to factor in when the mod was released with 1 plane and how long it's been to nearly perfect that 1 plane. There is no practical way to implement these suggestions, and most of which our outside minecraft's capabilities as the game engine.

Same as above, you're both losing sight of the entire project. Although iron ore's seem to be more diverse parts, (some that do lose sight a bit) but it would require more time spent on the plane's model then where the focus is actually being set on. The above reply applies to these 2 quotes aswell.

I have the following suggestions
1.
These suggestions are presumably being considered as other users have suggested them before and wouldn't be far from the engine's capabilities. As one user has already stated however, minecraft loads 81 chunks around you (each 16x16x128) and even at the current speed you will start to catch up to the chunks being loaded and will cause gameplay lag. It may not be practical to implement faster speeds but the suggestion to increase acceleration at higher altitudes combined with the previous suggestions to decrease acceleration and increase max speed could combine well. However even then, it could cause problems with the chunk allocation ultimately causing you to catch up or surpass loading chunks.
Oh and yes you can do a full loop, I've done some before. From sea level (64) you're about idk 10-20 blocks too high so digging yourself a pit and starting the loop from there should let you finish your loops without letting off the throttle.

2.
Not happening, engine restrictions.

Would probably be the next project if that he would work on. Taking on a vehicle mod SMP is pretty much a full-time occupation, much more ******** to deal with and I couldn't see it happening while there's still SSP things to be done.

4.
Goes with the million suggestions to add dispensers to planes. While not as impractical as other suggestions, it would create a lot of areas that need to be addressed and would most likely be considered if SMP support was implemented seeing as you've hardly got anything to shoot at in SSP and can save himself the hassle of dealing with the functions.

YES they can, let me tell you. Huge fire texture over the entire plane and it wobbles as it's being broken.
Quote from DonkeyFlavor »
I wish it would move faster.
Then again, Im sure faster planes will be added.
Same reply as ones aboving involving faster movement.

is there any way you could make a separate download that is 32x32 texture compatible?
That would be your prerogative. I'm pretty sure he barely scrapped the original together, it would consume time or just down right be out of his capabilities to create a 32x32 version. Not very high or at all on the todo list. If you really want both, you're better off doing it yourself.
Well yeah, your comments on my suggestions were right and Im glad you spent the time to reply to them :wink.gif:.
1. Well when I say fast, I mean- something similar to the speed of black Pegasus in Mo's more creatures mod. That horse flies a lot faster then the plane and still manages to fall behind chunk loading. I'd be using Mo's creatures if the idea was... Well... More realistic for my taste :tongue.gif:. Plus the fact getting a pegasus (not even a black Pegasus) is difficult. (or that I'm just too lazy XP).
Chunk loading really depends on how fast your computer can calculate the parameters of that chunk. So I belive, those with computers capable of loading chunks faster should be able to run planes at a faster speed. People flying a plane too fast for their computer to catch up should slow down and proceed at a speed that suits them. Or something like that... Would that work?
4. Well in terms of shooting arrows, I installed 303's elemental arrows mod. I was actually trying a fly-by bombing of a temple I built. I had TNT exploding arrows with a blast radius of 20.... Even though I lost everything, It didn't matter anyways, because my world was now a land of blown up houses and moon craters XD. (I saved a backup)
2. Engine limitations? Okay... I'll take your word for it. I Thought If the rudder and back wings rotate on the y (assuming up) and x axis then it should be possible for the entire plane model to rotate on the z axis. This because the rudder and back wings react to player input.... Or am I just going on nonsense XD
The mod is very brilliant- some suggestions may or may not be possible to implement- but in this early development. The mod sure has potential :wink.gif:. He's got something good going on.

I think it has to do with the actual Player character not being able to be 'rotated';
meh, im no modder, just speculating
You should definitely speed up the propeller rotation and the actual speed.Maybe double, or triple? (It should be faster than a minecart or boat trail)

1. Is it possible to add sound to the plane? Because it feels kinda weird when its just silent.
Definitely possible, save him half the work and find some sound files.

2.Can you make tilt animations for the plane just like on the hoverboat, and i dont mean roll, but i mean that you still turn with yaw, but that the plane makes an animation?
Elaborate more, you say you're not referring to roll then what? The plane already banks when controlling the yaw axis accordingly and I couldn't find anything about the hoverboat that seemed to be what you were referring to. Also it's not as much as an animation as it could be created and implemented to play when activated. If you are referring to it moving completely on the yaw axis until straighten out manually, it was in the last version and due to the size of the plane and field of view would cause skipping/chopping which was really unappealing. Also wasn't very favorable for controlling the plane's sake, the new version is a lot better with turns and making smaller turns with less acceleration.

What ever you do, don't press E while flying, and I would make my own skin if I had a template showing what part is what (someone make a template please).
The controls can be edited in your .minecraft folder on a file named "plane.properties"
Use a current design from the OP as a generic template for the time being.
When ever I open minecraft after installing the mod (also with modloader v5 and the turbo model thingy and deleing the META-INF), I log in and then the screen goes black...

I really enjoyed that mod, it's awesome.
But the plane models is like about to hurt my eyes with it's poor proportions.
Can you change it to look better?
Here is my vision of that model i quickly sketched in 3dmax.
You can see, the tail is thicker, the rear rudders and wings are bigger, the cockpit sides are higher, upper wing is a bit wider and moved forward a bit. The rotor is bigger and made of planks, not of square sticks. And the player sits behind the wings so he can look down to the side of his cockpit and see more than just a wing.
here is a suggestion: Monoplane. remove the upper wing of the plane so i can actually look up and see things. and on the crafting grid, a biplane wing can be broken down to 2 monoplane wings. Otherwise construction doesnt vary at all.
And it DEFINITELY needs to be able to turn much faster. An option for mouse control in the preferences file for this mod would be nice as well. Scroll wheel for throttle, mouselook for direction control, right click to get in/out
I just meant that when the plane turns with yaw/rudder/on the z axis it could make a tilt animation so it looks like it is using roll.
The hoverboat uses it !
just skip to 1:05 in the video!
You know it's funny cause I was looking for videos and watched that same one and cut off a minute into it cause I wasn't seeing anything.
Yeah that'll work, could be easier to just reference from the hoverboat aswell.
I've tried changing the size of the item icons to fit my 32x32 pack, but it doesn't work. Is there any way you can make a 32x32 version?
I posted a video for loading it on Mac here: viewtopic.php?f=1032&t=198188&start=630#p3030943
