Allosaurus was about 3/4 the size of the T-Rex.
And Dilophosaurus were not actually frilled and acid spitting small creatures. They were about 20-30 feet long and only had two crests. Jurassic Park screwed it up.
I actually knew this about the Dilophosaurus, but I described them as they were in Jurassic Park since that's what people will actually remember it from. If you assume a block is a meter (not a bad assumption considering that Notch has said a block is 1m^3) 6 blocks is about 20 feet.
I agree that the most common species, allosaurus fragilis, would be 3 blocks tall, and 9 blocks long. However, another species, allosaurus amplexus (syn. epanterias amplexus, which is based on incomplete remains, and is not very well-known), could have been almost as large as a tyrannosaurus rex. I was using this species. Who wants dinosaurs that are smaller than the largest reasonable size, anyways?
I guess if you wanted the largest carnivore possible, you could go with Spinosaurus - 4 blocks tall at the hip, 6 including the sail, and 15 blocks long, with a head that looks like an alligator. It might look too silly to take seriously, though.
EDIT - I love the sauropods! They seem to be about the right size, actually.
This image might be handy for reference:
EDIT 2 - The only thing I might do is have a second box for the tail so it suggests tapering and is flexible, then you could do the defensive tail-whip that people are talking about. The model looks great anyways.
Can someone who knows dinosaurs decide specs for this dino ie health, hostility etc. Thanks!
Well, the thing weighs like 30 tons, and I've seen 64 health bounced around in the thread. Maybe even more would be needed?
I'd say behavior-wise they should be peaceful, since they are too large to be worried by anything, even large carnivores. If you attack it and do a lot of damage (maybe down to 1/4 health?), then it does defensive stomping and tail-whipping.
I can not believe this is actually happening. Dude you should release a buggy pre-release so we can all explore this world(I'm just really excited to see another realm that isn't the nether, that place sucks lol.) Also are your mobs running spawnlist and modloader? They should, I would hate to have to choose between this and other mods.

GENERATION 25: The first time you see this, copy it into your sig on any forum and add 1 to the generation.
Health: 70
Attack Strength: 4 (after drops below 20 health)
Speed: 0.4 (half of a spider's speed)
Drops: Bones, maybe some light green dye
Mountable:Yes
Awesomeness: 100%
A thought on the drops... These guys are tough enough that maybe 0-2 apples would be in order, at least until some awesome prehistoric food gets added.
I don't think you should be able to INVedit in an apple or two and suddenly ride such a gigantic thing.
It should be like the taming the Mo'Creatures horse, gradually feeding it a lot of food, but with GOLDEN APPLES. And you still won't be able to control it.
Here are some scale comparisons for the rest of the dinos suggested in this topic.
Stegosaurus
T-Rex
Triceratops
Pteranodon
Allosaurus
Ankylosaurus
Deinonychus (The scarier version of Velociraptor)
Other suggestion: Generic Small Pterosaur, they were the size of bats. They'd be equivalent to our real life birds, but spend more time in the air and eating stuff instead of prancing around and chirping.
I have a suggestion for the Brachiosaurus mob (which, btw is looking good right now). Perhaps if it's possible, you could have it destroy leaf blocks so it looks like it's eating. Other than that, great job!
Sir, this is the greatest mod I´ve ever seen. Too bad it´ll take awhile before it releases...
I REALLY like that you can have tameable dinosaurs (from eggs.)
Keep up the good work, sir!
Didn't you see the part earlier in this thread where we were told we might get a buggy release this weekend? :tongue.gif:
Ya he's right, I'm just going to release what I have so far. I love the leaf idea, and I was actually already thinking about it :wink.gif:. Thanks for all the proportions of the dinos that should help. As far as taming a brachiosaurus goes, how about this:
It has to eat a redwood tree that YOU planted. (they wont eat most trees, cause i don't want the whole world to loose it's leaves!!) also, theres too many of them in the world right now, so I'm going to add a nest for them to spawn in and its should turn it into a realistic amount
As you add more mobs that spawn, including some underground, you should start to get some kind of balance. I assume since they're the only mob, that they keep spawning right up to the mob limit.

You get home with a flux on a pterodactyl (the giant dino bird)
JurrasiCraft BRACHIOSAURUS
Yes I realize it needs a LOT of work but I just like to show you all what I'm up to!!
watch the f**k out creepers

I hope you do know how to make this with modloader, try decompiling a mob mod that uses spawnlist to find the custom methods there.
