Pokémon in Vanilla Minecraft --
Pokémon Cobalt and Amethyst is a 1.8.8 single player vanilla Minecraft map that recreates the original Pokémon role-playing game in Minecraft. This includes battling, capturing, and training Pokémon, fighting trainers, and challenging Gym Leaders and, ultimately, the Pokémon League. Everything you love in Pokémon is now here as a vanilla adventure map, ready to play! Experience the open world and 3D sensation Minecraft offers!
The map places itself in a never-before-seen region, featuring a new set of 136 Pokémon and a new story dominated by an antagonist threatening to release a Legendary darkness that demands tribute. It is your task to seek the truth with the help of the region's Professor and your rival - either capture it before it's too late, or take Team Tempest down while saving the lives of those closest to you.
You may also like to try the shorter promotional Pokémon Cobalt and Amethyst map, Catching Arceus.
August 2014: Developed the initial wild-encounter mechanics.
December 2014: Created a basic, non-replicable Pokémon battle - you could now actually win a Pokémon battle in vanilla Minecraft!
After the final proof of concept was posted on the Minecraft subreddit, it immediately caught the attention of thousands, most notably Logdotzip, a YouTuber with around a million subscribers (at the time of posting). After making a video showcasing the wild Pokémon battle and detailing my desires to make this into a full map (crazy!), I received hundreds of emails and social media notifications from eager contributors. It was a dream to me at that point given the infancy of my YouTube channel with less than a thousand subscribers. I was a dwarf in the eyes of many, but seeing the gleam in many virtual eyes, I could see this dream becoming a reality.
January 2015: A team was gathered as we worked tirelessly throughout 2015. Monthly updates were published, with each update delivering more content, mainly new builds, towns, and cities.
June 2015: Created the first prototype replicable Pokémon trainer battle which became a worldwide Minecraft phenomenon - it was later featured on television! While this prototype lacked some crucial aspects of a Pokémon battle, it was no doubt a colossal leap forward in vanilla Minecraft innovation.
August 2015: Published the first piece from the official Pokémon Cobalt and Amethyst soundtrack (credit to Unity Paradox).
September 2015: Finished building the entire region, including all eight Gyms and a beautiful story.
Slowly, but surely, this map was beginning to make a name for itself - #PokeCA. It really, and undoubtedly, felt like a new game - a brand new adventure of its unique kind. And every bit of it was captured on YouTube for everyone to witness.
February 2016: Created the first capture mechanic! You could now catch Pokémon in the wild! Later that month, we also released the first promotional map, "Catching Arceus", a quick promo that allowed users to finally gain a good sense of the wild battle features available!
May 2016: All starters were now finished, and the full map was finally 50% of the way to full completion! July 2016: Released the second promotional map, "The First Gym"! We also finally completed the Pokédex, now featuring 136 brand new Pokémon!
September 2016: Installed the final Pokémon!
October 2016: ALPHA transition
December 2016: BETA transition - all mechanics were now complete, and the map ready for semi-public testing!

MAP SETTINGS & REQUIREMENTS
This is a 1.8.8 vanilla Minecraft single player game.
Please allocate at least 2 GB RAM to your Minecraft client.
Before downloading this map, watch the associated release video at the top of the page in full. This will allow you to familiarise yourself with the map's in-game mechanics as well as provide visual confirmation that your client is adjusted to the correct settings.
Points to consider (in order): 1. Run Minecraft version 1.8.7 or 1.8.8 for optimal playing experience. Install the map as normal (you do not need to install the resource pack separately; it has been embedded into the world save). Please do not use any other resource packs.
2. It is recommended that you install Optifine at http://optifine.net/downloads and ensure you are running no other mods. Although playing the map without Optifine is sufficient, you may notice visual imperfections and/or frame lag especially on weaker computers.
3. Please set your chat settings to the following (this may be adjusted according to your Minecraft client's resolution): Scale: 100%; Focused Height: 120px; Unfocused Height: 100px; Width: 320px
3a. Set your language to U.S. English.
4. Please set your view distance to at least 16 chunks, and FOV to normal.
5. Set the volume for 'Music' to 0.
6. Do NOT backtrack in chat. This generally includes attempting to click buttons in previous chat logs. Avoid spam clicking buttons. Previous chat logs serve as memory only.
6a. Do not quit out of the map in the middle of dialogue/cutscene, function, or battle. This will break the map (if this occurs to you, please contact me immediately).
6b. If there is a clickable arrow in the most recent chat log, you must click it before doing anything else.
7. All Items work via right-click, except the Bike which is activated by dropping it (default key: Q).
To avoid or remedy any game-breaking glitches, MAKE FREQUENT BACKUPS of the map.
PROLOGUE (BACKGROUND STORY) Mathers, Team Tempest Leader, was an Archbishop in the Church of Arceus, raised in the Church, for the Church, and to serve the Church. He, however, saw the constant battling and fighting of trainers and the different teams tearing apart the world, and began to doubt his upbringing – he began to doubt his purpose. After word spread that a young child had found a Pokémon called Giratina, one only mentioned as a whisper in the doctrines of Arceus, Mathers began to do research into the Distortion World (antimatter), and found himself drawn deeper and deeper to it.
After word reached the Suliqu region that a child captured Arceus, Mathers self-excommunicated from the church and began searching for a new place to direct his desires. His interest in the Distortion World only increased from there as he learned that many more beings existed in the Distortion World, and that their intents were opposite that of Arceus. Mathers, seeking now to bring back the fallen victims of the previous evil teams, as the Church of Arceus viewed them as a “necessary evil”, desired, initially, only to right the supposed wrongs that were so often allowed to occur. Thus, Team Tempest was formed, named after a storm, the righteous anger of a fallen Archbishop, named thus to mock the church of Arceus as they would only view his intents as a “natural disaster” to be taken no more seriously than any other simple storm.
In his studies into Distortion as a whole, Mathers learned of a place where there were strange weather phenomena: the small town of Chalet. He investigated with those drawn to his cause, and eventually found a lighthouse on a frozen beach. Upon further investigation, they discovered a weak point between the dimensions, a rift between the dimensions of order and chaos, caused by a creature who called Mathers further into the caves; as the Call of the Premier bathed the area, Mathers figured Premier a god, rather than a secret hidden away by Arceus. Through time, as the followers of Team Tempest grew, their ideals became less and less holy, but still grounded in righteousness, as their leader began to submit to the Call of the Premier, beginning to create Shadow Pokémon near the weak point between dimensions, until the rift was fully opened, and the shadow Pokémon were no longer necessary. At this point, a young child turns 15 years of age, and leaves home for the sake of becoming a Pokémon master…

Phoenix- I posted this in the Reddit, but you haven't seen it yet and I really wanna try to play again, and I can't get it to work until it gets fixed. Does anyone know to fix this?
Unforchunatley, I don't have an image of this to show, because theres nothing really to show. I'm currently stuck in a battle screen- I went into the area to the right of Route 17 with the Grass after the signs, and I fought... I actually don't remember the exact pokemon I fought, but basically, I fought the pokemon, and won, but after I won, I clicked the button to continue in text too fast for recieving XP, and it didn't teleport me back. I tried looking back in chat, but the message is already gone. Is there any way to fix this, or at least can you tell me some sort of command to fix it to set it up so I can play again? Just a teleport won't work, because I won't have the items in my inventory and such, I'm not sure what to do. Thanks!

Amazing map! I suggest that people keep backups of the map along with guides and other things related to the map just in case Nintendo goes after this map like they've done to other fan-works.
Thank you all so much! The release process was tremendously smooth and successful! Such a busy time! Still a bit to do to really push this project even further!

Another question. Is it possible that some of the npcs are unable to interact? I have a weaker computer so I have to ask. And I can't just go and mess up with the commands.
I can't seem to get it to work. I have tried setting the settings to what is recommended and that did not work. I made sure no other recourse packs were active. I don't know what I did wrong. It is just stuck on the place where you pawn after right clicking "New Game". No Professor is there, I can't move. I can view my inventory and nothing is there. HELP!?

They'll still work, but you'll need to take a bit more care. I highly recommend you seek assistance from the walkthrough just so you know you haven't missed anything. Good luck!

Yeah, I'm really glad. they've put a lot of effort into this map, and they deserve a little recognition. :3
