Hello guys. I am a huge fan of both minecraft and Saints Row: The Third, and always thought it would be amazing to have Steelport in minecraft. There was a thread a few months ago about creating one, but it pretty much is dead (http://www.minecraft...-row-the-third/)
This is the updated OP, with download link and progress updates.
Outline: 70%
Fill (ground + roads): 5%
Main Buildings: 1.5%
Highways: 0.1%
Secondary buildings: 1.5%
Decorations: 0.5%
Qcheck: 0%
Last update: 8/20
I plan on making the WHOLE map, with all buildings and islands and stuff. It's huge? yes. Steelport map is 4250m x 3200m wide, with 6 main islands, 2 secondary small islands, and pretty high skyscrapers that are impossible to recreate in minecraft even with sea level at 0. For that matter the Z axis will be 3:1 (so the highest skyscraper with an astonishing 220+ floors (yes, if you own ST:TT go count the floors =p), will be cut to about 70 floors to "fit" in the 256m height limit, but other than that, the x-y axis will be 1:1
I have started outlining the islands in a flat ocean world (bedrock + sand + water, thus 3 meters used only, 253m left for the map itself). Here is the schedule:
1. Outline islands
2. Fill islands with proper terrain + roads (faster to make roads simultaneously, or I would need t cut the terrain when making then)
3. Sindicate Tower (I just want to have it as sooner as possible =p)
4. Highways and bridges
5. Houses
6. Buildings
7. Decoration
All items will follow the same island order: Deckers district (NW), Luchadores district (SW), Zombie district (center), Main Morning Star District (S), Morning Star Sindicate Tower District (N), Morning Star Airport District (E), Military base island, Statue Island
I will post progress only by milestones, they are:
Step 1 complete
Step 2 PER ISLAND complete
Step 3 and 4 complete
Step 5 PER ISLAND complete
Step 6 PER ISLAND complete
Step 7 PER ISLAND complete
My method to make this is simple. I got a high-res map of steelport (available on main site), calculated the distance/scale by using ingame checkpoints, overlapped it with a 100m grid (will make available soon), and started mapping.
I am also recording in-game panoramas so I can quickly take a look on details without having to get to the game (first recording I did is making the Deckers' district outline path by chopter, so I can see which material to use when making it - most of all the game's chores are made of either rock, concrete or wood)
I will keep you posted When stop 1 is complete, I will start making the map available to download. I am using verison 1.5.1 with optifine (seriously, with each island being about 2m across, you need that extreme distance rendering. It ends up not dragging FPS down as in a usual game because it's just a huge sea, but I bet it will as I add buildings)
edit:
This is steelport map. Each square have 100m borders, so yes, it's freaking huge. At the moment I completed the outline of the deckers island (NW), lichadores island (SW), "zombie" island (center/west) and done half the morning-star south island. I will post the map only when I finish the first milestone of complete border (see download link above)
Ok little update, though I still haven't completed step 1. Just thought I should drop a downloadable version of the latest (wip) version.
This features the outline of everything except the east morningstar island (one of the biggest, if not the biggest islands), also missing the military base island and the monument base (very small islands). The outline was made with the material related to that area (concrete / stone / dust - there are no beaches in Steelport). I also made the bridge entry position in every area, except the big highways which usually connect further inside the islands and not on the chores.
This thing is huge. Just to give you an idea, I dropped a beacon at 0:0 (which is NW of the main morningstar island, also your own home for most of the game) and if you move to the edge of the beacon (256m) you pretty much moved like A BLOCK in steelport. The biggest buildings have like 200m diameter!
If you want to see the most of this, move to X-800, Z-400. That's a T junction of the sea with the Deckers island to west, zombie island to NE (I just learned it's officially called Morning Star Industrial District), and the Luchadores islando to SE. Moving a little to the SW (at X-1000, Z-550) you are on top of a very TINY ISLAND (yeah ... in minecraft it covers the screen, it's 150m wide) which stays on the middle of the highway that connects the deckers and the luchadores district/island.
I will quit my idea of doing EVERYTHING in steps, and will move to do EACH ISLAND, because all this work to pretty much no visible result is disappointing me =p I will end the outlines and then pick an island to make everything (ground/streets -> bridges -> buildings)
I really should have started this as 1:4 on all dimensions, not just height lol (but that would make some houses be like 2m wide )
Ok, small change of plans because making outlines was really boring and getting to me (as in, thinking about quitting), so I left the Morning Star East district/island alone (not made), nor the military base, and started the roads of Morning Star North district. It's getting really nice, and I like the effect. It's still slow work, but seeing SOMETHING inspires me to continue the project. I am planning on finishing the roads of this district (done about 15% so far) and then jump straight to the Morning Star HQ skyscraper (the biggest on the game), so I will have something huge and awesome to watch and inspire me to keep going.
Here is a peak from the latest map (download link at OP, made so far with 1.5.1 + Optifine + HQ textures):
Thanks, it's too huge indeed. One month and only 3% lol. I will only update the download link when I finish all the roads of Morning Star North district (about half done!), then I think I will make the buildings at the same island just to have ate least one complete island.
I just noticed that clay would have been a better choice for the streets color, but now it's too late, light gray wool it is xD
Here we go, an update earlier than I expected but just so you know the project is not dead (just slow since I do have a life):
Further roads (about 60% north district done), and there three park blocks are pretty much done. Above, at far (using optifine with far + 128), the BASE of the Sindicate Tower, which will be as high as it can get (planned about 250m). Took me a while to get it done because I actually did a lightning system on the windows: as it get's from dusk to night, lights start to light up =D I plan on making similar auto lights on/off in the whole building.
The base of the tower about 100x100m! It SHOULD be 960m tall but I will try to stretch/crop 4x, this at about 240m (plus 5 for floor and 5 for some stuff on top would sum up the whole 250m limit). Other buildings are smaller, but at least other 4 will need severe shortening as well
The download map has also been updated.
I plan on finishing the roads around the tower and getting the tower itself done before continuing the north district/island.
This is getting awesome! About 1/3 of the Syndicate tower is complete, with lights turning on/off at the whole building during the night. Also completed some 75% of streets on the district, added most public lightning, and even started a few small areas around the tower. Check it out:
Download link NOT UPDATED YET, will only upload the new version late sunday so the work of the weekend is included (ok, I'm too lazy).
I am trying to leave the scenario Adventure-mode friendly so others can use it if they want. The interior of the tower os pretty much empty except for the light system (3~4m on each wall), I added a lobby and an observatory at the 30th floor (~110m), and will add another observatory at the top, using an elevator system which actually uses teleport. Obviously, none of this exists on the game, but I couldn't resist. It should be fun to make the interior of the buildings eventually ... that I leave for another project.
(also, updated to 1.5.2, and will update to 1.6 as soon as optifine comes along so I can use the new coloured blocks)
Ok, long time without an update, but here it comes...
This update includes updated 1.6.2 map download, so check it out the progress if you want. But here is what changed from the last download option:
+ More of the syndicate tower build. About 30% of it is done
+ More of the roads on the sydicate north district done, including some grass/walkways and the entrace of the main highway (both sides)
+ Some building facades around the syndicate tower are done, including a parking lot and park to the left of the syndicate tower. This brings the main block around the tower almost complete
+ 100% complete church just in front of the syndicate tower! (missing some grass and trees only)
The next update should include at least 50% of the tower, and both buildings which facade was started at this update. It might also include another building between the church and the tower. I aim to complete the roads on the north district island by then.
Work was slowed down in the last two weeks because I have been playing other games =p
Well, just an update, but I think I will be stopping, I am often playing other stuff and there is no interest on this anyway. If I do something else, I might post it here.
Changes since last update: Several small buildings, two big buildings at the side of the tower, raised most of the tower windows, a few more roads.
The two new buildings also have lights that turn on/off thru the night.
Thanks, it's too huge indeed. One month and only 3% lol. I will only update the download link when I finish all the roads of Morning Star North district (about half done!), then I think I will make the buildings at the same island just to have ate least one complete island.

Get the bacteria mod. There is a thing in there that replaces one type of block with another. Also if you need help I would be happy to, the only thing is I won't be there to help everday.
