Have you seen the 1980 movie The Shining? If so, then you must remember the hotel, the Overlook Hotel to be exact. Well, that thing always fascinated me, so I became inspired to create a full scale replica of it in Minecraft! I suppose I'm not the first, I saw a video of someone else's version, but to be honest I think it sucked. I tried to get mine as accurate as possible.
The Colorado Lounge. I made it a little too wide, but it's not a big deal.
Another view of the Lounge. (Updated ceiling)
The Gold Room.
The Red Bathroom, with working mirrors
A view of one of the hallways, complete with that trippy iconic carpet pattern. Well, the best you can do in Minecraft, at least.
Another hallway view.
Staff quarters hallway
The kitchen
The Hedge Maze
That's about it. I also built the manager's office, games room, room 237, and plenty of other hallways but didn't bother to take screenshots of them. There are also a couple of easter eggs I'm sure you'll be happy to find c:
Other important things: I want to give special thanks to Bryant Arnett. Even though I don't know him personally, he went to the trouble of mapping out the ENTIRE hotel and making it into a Duke Nukem level. I used that as my main reference, and it couldn't have helped more. Download it here: http://www.theshinin...om/download.htm
Also, I welcome anyone to turn this into an adventure or survival map. But if you do, I request one thing, PLEASE give me credit for being the one who actually built the map, and it'd be nice to provide a link to this page. That's all I ask.
DUDE! This is the best map tribute for The Overlook Hotel that I have seen! I made my own youtube video taking a tour. and I do side by side with some movie scenes.
I think you, did a fantastic job with the interior. I just think you made a few little mistakes inside the hotel itself for a example some parts of the hotel are way to dark even though I could just use night vision potion I think, you should add more lights inside the darker parts. The exterior is good front wise but the back... you made a huge mistake with the exterior which I believe you rushed it, the maze is perfect it's just the back of the hotel itself for a example you can see interior like the outside of it but you didn't make the whole back of the hotel.
Allow me to explain some of those things. I purposefully left some areas dark for a couple reasons, one to give them more of a spooky feel, and two because the Torrances probably wouldn't have left all the lights on. I just figured it'd be kind of neat. Also with the exterior, it's basically impossible to fit the whole thing inside of that because of the inconsistencies with the set in the actual film. It wasn't rushed really, I took my time with that, but it wasn't something that could have been avoided really. You're not supposed to go back there anyway, I made sure to close off that part of the map so the only way to get there is by flying.
you might want to update your build there are many things are unaccurate, like where the elevator of blood is with the hallway is suppost to be longer thats just one of the examples

Enjoy:) it will be downloadable later.
Wow, I really like it, your maze is definitely a lot better than mine! I sort of rushed that part.
Thank you that's awesome!
