well i got it in my head a few days ago that i wanted to build things in America after a long search i could not find a map that fit the bill to my liking. so i went and grabed world painter and made this.
its not done yet but im in the process of adding the correct biomes to the proper areas and filling in lakes and rivers. its massive. and it took world painter 7 hours to render my test model. to give you an idea of the size i put down a 100x100 grid over the map.
this is a pic of the test model no specific biomes no trees just dirt, rock, sand, and gravle
This is the first tester map that im willing to release. After some trial and error and experimenting I pumped out this map to test elevations,
see how my method of river making is working, and to scope the Stock Grand Canyon. The biomes are piece meal and not at all clean or exact.
I put them in to make the map less boring. The map has some rough geography that may be angular. After my first map I discovered that smoothing
the textures makes it 100 times harder find the original river valleys. I have completed several rivers which im in the process of testing..
If the results are good ill continue with more rivers. ( iv marked rivers to be with brown paths in grass land green paths in mountains)
Some lakes are missing and oceans are shallow because im not focused on them right now. I moved sea levels from elevation 14 to 65
to help smooth out ultra steep elevations with a fresh render (mixed results)
Spawn in Central Valley California. (iv added my roman fort and Exploration Carrack with gear)
Recommended Mods:
1. Extra Biomes XL 1.2.5
2. Flans Mods
Explore and tell me how to better the map.
new pic gives dimensions. each box on the grid is 100x100 blocks
This looks great. I was already doing the same thing on WorldPainter.
But where is the desert? D: Silly me. You're not doing specific biomes. The one I have is 10x smaller. :b

Biomes will come later after I get the rivers and stuff done
Put the file on mediafire.com , because some people (Including me.) will have problems with this speedy.sh [it] site.
*EDIT*: Nevermind, I know how to download, but srsly, put this on mediafire.com .
Mediafire.com was my first choice. But the file was over 200mb which prohibited me from uploading it there. (as well as 6-7 other sites I tried) dumb luck I found speedysh because it was the only site I found where I could upload the file without a paid membership. This is a free map I don't wanna pay to distribute it :/ sry if speedy isn't very user friendly
New shots of my work. all rivers east of the Rockies are finished. sand lines in the west will be rivers when i get to them. smoothed the landscape a bit to cut down on spikieness and to flatten out the plains a bit. hope this adds some perspective to the size of the map
This is insane and looks awesome, great job man. Just one thing though, shouldn't it be called the "United States" main land map and not "North America" since you're excluding most parts of other countries and Alaska, therefore leaving out the rest of the continent?

Well though the map is mostly focused on the United States i was hoping to have a title that would draw attention to the areas of the map that weren’t in the USA. for instance most of mainland Mexico and almost all of Baja California are on the map. as well as large portions of Canada (mostly in the east north of Michigan) I agree, branding this map a Continent is largely an injustice; but i couldn’t come up with a name that inherently implied that the area outside of the US was also featured.
