So while it might not help as much when you go to he source of your FPS issues, it will certainly help at least a little bit, so I would always recommend AOGL turned on unless it's not compatible with you GPU for whatever reason. (I can't imagine any modern GPU not being able to do that though...)
It has to be compatible, otherwise I don't think I would've gotten those numbers in these tests.
Advanced OpenGL is not compatible with Intel GPUs. *stifles small giggle*
How so? According to the wiki, that option enables/disables occlusion culling, which according to an article on Intel's site, the chips does support. Although in the test I ran in my main world I don't notice a difference :s. As for Waking Up, it lags badly at the spawn point [on normal + smooth lighting off + fast] to even test >.>. Note that this all was done on Vista 32 bit [and no, that's not the problem :P]
Decided to try out Waking Up. So far I have the first 4 wools and have just started on the 2nd intersection. My opinions so far:
So far I think the map is brilliant. I think my favorite thing by far is the random enchanted items you give us. The Papercutter was a nice touch. And the Wolf in a box was pretty creative too. Things like that just make me smile.
I also loved the dispenser traps with the potions. Great trap that literally made me jump the first time it activated. Of course I took the potions to use myself. Running through Boomer Castle with 6 creepers following me and killing them all with harming potions was some of the most fun I've had in this game in a while.
The last section of Boomer Castle was pretty crazy. I decided to go on a suicide run thru it once to see how far I'd get. Wish I had filmed it. As I was running, a ghast set off the TNT blowing a large gap about 5 blocks wide that I couldn't get across. But right after that a creeper blew up as I was sprinting and blew me all the way across the gap to the wool. It was hilarious.
I think you have a genius setup with this map as you make it very difficult, yet give the players enough random loot and supplies to keep them interested.
I know the last intersection is going to be rough. I took a peak into the Nether section last night and I honestly don't know if I'll ever be able to beat it, but it's gonna be fun trying.
Episode 6 of Let's Pwn SOFII! We unexpectedly go to the nether and attempt at getting one of the hardest wools with our newly found blue shiny rocks...

A little about my experience:
Both times I died were due to silverfish...
Citadel of Demons was EASY. You just need a lava bucket, TNT, and a flint and steel.
I think you gave a few too many resources on this one. This is especially true with all of the chainmail armor at the beginning.
Lastly, I think if you really wanted to give the player a hard time, you should have surrounded Citadel of Demons in silverfish blocks.
Anyways, what map should I do next? (Not planning on playing Gift or Waking Up...)
Blagheramousey, I don't feel like writing progress updates in Waking Up. But here is a little update:
I finally got the magenta wool! I feel like a cheater though; I tunneled BEHIND the lava and behind the stone slabs, in the wall. Then I made a path through the lava, bridged out, making a tunnel as I went, and bridged all the way into the wool. It was fairly easy, and I'm glad I did it that way, although it felt a bit cheaty.
I have SOOOO much loot now. Tons of chests full of stuff. Also, I've been so lucky with enchanting. Enchanted a pair of Diamond Boots at level 8 and got Feather Falling III and Projectile Protection III! And I got that awesome helmet I wrote about last update at level 8 too.
Until I saw Vechs' Mobile Mooshroom video, I had completely forgotten that you could just make infinite food using Mooshrooms as long as you had bowls. I'm such a forgetful guy. But one of the mooshrooms had climbed up the vines in Sssshrooms, so I found it easy to herd him into a little pen in Intersection 1. I named her Bessie, and now I have infinite mushroom stew. <3
Anyway, loving this map so far. Now I have to go into the awfulness that is We All Float. I hope Intersection 2 is in there. Can't wait to play more!
I recently introduced my sister into CTM maps. We did Spellbound Caves. I've already beaten it, but it was still fun. I actually died more than she did Here's our victory photo! We're now doing a LP of Sunburn Islands! Expect it in a few weeks!

Vechs, could you lay off on the usage of "copy-paste" rooms, "random loot chests" and "Schematics for chests" and make the maps more original? It adds to the exitement if everything isn't bland and re-used! Thanks for taking this into consideration.

Not that I've been paying attention to your posts, but I challenge you to do Nightmare Realm next (if you haven't already done it...)

Copy-paste rooms were only used in Lethamyr, random loot chests are now a feature, and there are specific loot chests he makes for enchanted stuff and so on...the last one doesn't make sense.
Please release Inferno Mines on June 15th ;_;
Thats my birthday and I'm dying of a rare disease called hipplopotosquid syndrome. Only your map can save me ;_;

War is where the young and stupid are tricked by the old and bitter into killing each other. The good people die, and so do the bad ones, but the weak people, like me, we have inherited the earth.
If you have an NVIDIA card, I suggest not updating past driver version 285.62 for now. There is a major bug with them on most cards where it does not detect minecraft as a 3d application and the card clocks will stay in 2D mode. Also the beta drivers are horrible and get 1/2 or even less FPS in most games if you do not have a GK104 based card.
I just read the parenthesis in the LoL suggestion part of the OP. "Pay to Win" is worse than pay to play, and is all it takes to keep me from ever playing a game.

Hmm. Same computer running Debian Unstable AMD64 using OpenJDK-6's java with the Waking Up spawn point, and it's not as laggy O_O. Though toggling Advanced OpenGL still doesn't do much.

The maps are original. Yeah there are some areas that have a feel of others*, and in some of the older maps (I know Infernal Sky and Black Desert used it) there was a building he used for 'simple' dungeons, but even then there is originality. Though I'm betting you're talking about Lethamyr's spiral staircases. To me, yeah they're probably a schematic, but they feel like a bigger form of the brick markers in the 'dungeon' open world maps (the style of Sunburn Islands, Sea of Flame II, and Nightmare Realms). Also, they may be similar, but in the three that I did see so far, they're not "copy-paste".
<edit>Now that I think about it, the only things "copied" in the maps outside Vechs's work are the
Piggy Temple of the Cathedral of the Suidae in Sea of Flame II (with references to Zisteau)
and the
Skyrim references in Spellbound Caves' Blackened Library
. And even those aren't a "copy-paste".</edit>
As for the "Schematics for chests", if you're talking about the chests labeled "Zistonian Battle Sign Level 1" or "Stone Tools and Food - Low" for example, well those are the non-random loot that we all know and love. Chests that have enchanted items or potions were added in the "Super Hostile 2.0" round of updates [Sea Of Flame II v2, Infernal Sky II v2, Kaizo Caverns v2, and then later Spellbound Caves v1], and the ones existing before that were given labels in Spellbound Caves.
* Five of the areas of Legendary are homages to five of the first six maps: Sea of Flames (former SH1), Infernal Sky (former #3), Kiazo Caverns, Black Desert, and Canopy Carnage. AFAIK Endless Deep, the former SH 3, didn't have a homage in Legendary

Those spiral stair case areas in Lethamyr are not part of the dungeons. They're just the entryways that let you know you've found a dungeon. Kind of like how the fleecy boxes let you know you've found a wool.

If you're talking about those spiral staircases in Lethamyr, no because those are the dungeon entrances that let people know they have found a dungeon. If you're talking about "Moria" areas like Rattlebone Cryptes, Halls of Flame, or the pillars under Black Desert, I'm not going to stop making areas like that, because I just love how they look.
I love the random loot chests, so I'm going to keep using them. This really confuses me. How can you complain about these being bland and reused? Their contents are completely random! Each one is different-- this is the exact opposite of labeled chests that are always the same. You never know if you're going to find diamond armor, an enchanted sword, or score a big haul of food or coal. I think they're great.
I also love the labeled chests, such as Zistonian Battlesign Level 2, and Combat Supplies - Medium, so those aren't going anywhere either.
It has to be compatible, otherwise I don't think I would've gotten those numbers in these tests.
