My friends and I are planning to invest in a tiny, dedicated server to run a multiplayer Minecraft game, and while the planning is still preliminary one thing we haven't figured out is which seed to start with. A quick Google-assisted search of these forums yielded many threads about great seeds, but most of them seem to rate the quality of a seed based on its value for a single-person game -- seeds like "fly" or "-11" are fine for that -- but for a multiplayer game, the things we're looking for a little different. What we're looking for are these four characteristics:
-- More mountains and mountain ranges: a single mountainous area is fine for a single-player game, but for a dozen players or so, we might want more places to expand. Maps with seeds like "Glacier," "baroness," and "Gargamel," seem to have lots of mountains, but are they the best ones?
-- Geographic anomalies: I love arches, waterfalls, and maybe even the occasional floating island. The map doesn't have to be filled with them (like the map "Pokeylucky" or "-11")
-- More land, less water: Things like water and forest-area are easy to fix -- we can always plant more trees, and water can always be worked into the right areas. Huge oceans or seas eat up lots of landspace, and on a multiplayer map that's trying to look good on the surface, that water can be rather limiting. So for now, I'd say the less water the better.
-- Dungeons are ok: We have a few "dungeoneering" types, so dungeon areas are fine. They won't make or break an area.
So -- this discussion is basically about what makes a good multiplayer seed. Most of us have been playing Minecraft for awhile now, but multiplayer is still fairly new. I think this thread (if properly placed, Notch willing) will be a good discussion point for players about good multiplayer maps.
Does anyone out there have any good seeds for that? Or any other helpful advice? Please, discuss!
*Footnote: I did search thoroughly to make sure this was the right sub-forum. If it's not, please let it be moved! Let me know and I'll do what I have to.
10101101 makes a really nice map with lots of land and not that much water it doesn't. it has mountainousness parts through out the map. i haven't found any dungeons so far and i have explored quite a bit. it also has some nice scenery to go with it. it also has a lot of nice areas to build on

Hey, thanks -- I'll be glad to try that one out on singleplayer while we debate on server specs. :wink.gif:
