if you cannot get this to work, I can make you the disk for a small fee. Just message me.
How to play Minecraft on a CD-R Disk! - Credit goes to NotTarts
This tutorial will show you how to play Minecraft on a CD-R Disk! This will also store all your data to the disk, so if you play it on a different computer, you'll have all your saves, mods, saved servers, texture packs, etc! What it does is keeps the .minecraft directory on your CD instead of in "roaming"!
What you'll need:
- Windows 7 (May work with others, haven't tested - Let me know!)
- Java on every computer you'll play this on
- A copy of MinecraftPortable (Credit to NotTarts for creating): http://tinyurl.com/MCPortable
- WinRAR, 7-Zip or any other Archive Extractor.
- 1x Blank writable CD-R Disk (I used a 52X 700mb Disk for mine)
How to make:
1 - Put your disk in your computer
2 - When you get the pop-up, press "BURN FILES TO DISK"
3 - Then, on the next pop-up, click the first option, "Like a USB Flash Drive". Also give it a name (Eg. MC)
4 - Your disk will format. This takes a while
5 - On the next pop-up, press Open folder to view files
6 - Drag your copy of MinecraftPortable (http://tinyurl.com/MCPortable) into there, and extract.
7 - Delete the archive once extracted
8 - Finished
How to use:
To use this, just put your disk into your computer, and either open it from the pop-up, or go to "Computer > DVD/CD DRIVE". Then open the exe file, and log in as usual. It will install the game, generate a new .minecraft folder on the disk.
Modding the .minecraft
You must run the game once, and log in once. Then click on MCP_DATA, and you'll get the .minecraft folder. Here you can modify it, or remove it and import a copy of your one from your roaming folder.
If you use this, you should import your current .minecraft from roaming. Also, use this instead of Minecraft so that you're not using two different .minecraft's (one when your on your PC and one when your somewhere else/someone else's computer)
