Awesome.
If anyone wants anything done with their skin, aka, a animated GIF or just a picture, just PM me and post on this thread, just in case. PM is much easier then posting on this thread., but i don't always read them.
Good job guys, and happy blendering!
EDIT: Just finished recording the video tutorial, expect it to be online before the end of the week. It's looking good.
But the version there is from Jun 6, 2010, while this topic was last updated on September 4, 2010. It would be great if someone (ShnitzelKiller?) should keep ModDB file updated, whenever a new version is posted here.
omg, if i try to move my player in object mode, the bones won't move :sad.gif: they are just staying on the same spot but my player moves, so he loses his bones D:
what should i do?
Press Z to go into wireframe view, then you should be able to see the actual BONEs that hte object is connected to, then you can move them.
Here's and image I made in like 5 mintues:

Ok...for those of us that understand that when you say "you don't have to have much knowledge of blender" and what you mean is "you will have no clue what you are doing," is there some kind of handy youtube video that would assist those of us that aren't wizards? Sorry, this thing is just REALLY irritating me and loading it up (and the file you provided) has pretty much thrown me into the lions den. I DID figure out from what you said that if you right click, things will move, and left clicking seems to do something.
Well actually, where I'm at right now, I've discovered that everytime I click something else seems to come up. Those are really pretty circles that it brings up when I click on things. There's this really large gray thing though that moves around now instead of the little boxman. I feel like my parents when they tried to install their printer. This thing was not made for the casual animator, was it?
Edit:
This is as far as I've got so far. To use a Minecraft metaphor, this is like running into a wall of Redstone with only your fist. If you hit it for a while, it'll eventually break, but you don't get anything out of it and quickly learn to never do it again.
Edit again: Is there some sort of Undo button? Control Z seems to undo stuff but I'm not sure it isn't just screwing it up some more. So far what I do is screw with the thing until it's FUBAR, and then I reload the old image of boxman, replace him by clicking on that thing on the right, and then proceed to do more horrifying things to him. I like the draw tool that lulls you into believing it'll select everything within that area,I've learned that if I try to make a circle with it, the last thing I touched starts rotating like no tomorow. Once I got the sky to move closer and further away! This is why I wish things like this had some sort of physical form so I could put it in my own Blender and then set the left over shards on fire.
Edit: *looks at everyone's pretty pictures. Can't figure out anything* Oh screw all of this with a rusted spoon covered in maggots and pus.(if I can get banned for that I'll change it) Did I mention I hate all of this?

Yeah I suppose, I guess I'm just used to this stuff being generally easy to figure out, and Blender wasn't made for people to figure out, it was made for people that know how to use it. I have no desire to learn how to work something new just to make a pretty minecraft picture.

Ok, a few quick things:
Right-Click is select, not left.
You need to go into Wireframe mode to select bones (press Z), to move the armature around.
BlastedAsh: this rig only works in blender, so try it, it's free!
And, everyone, use Blender 2.5 Alpha, I know it says Alpha, but it works! Just like Minecraft is in Alpha and it works. 2.5 is much easier to use and learn, trust me! The rig does work in it.
So come on, if you have trouble, look up introduction to blender tutorials, and stop complaining about it being so hard.
If you really can't find any help, just ask here. I will upload my tutorial now, let me just compress it. It will really help for people wanting to know how to create a simple image in Blender using this rig.
Can someone tell me how I duplicate the main model, or just make another one?
I'm totally new to Blender, and I've been trying to figure out how to do this a while now. I've also read through this topic 3 times, with no luck.
Make sure you're in Edit Mode.
Shift-Right-Click the model.
Shift-D to duplicate
Edit mode? You have to be in object mode to properly duplicate both the object and its armature.
Thats what I made. Also how do I add creepers, more people and move them Toward the camera?

The chances of one getting out of the cave, navigating around the hills unnoticed, making me see it, and then vanishing on its own are about equal to the chances of me getting laid.
I'm a bit stumped here; my texture, Tabby Fox, shows up nicely except for the head, which is blank. I can see the head in the skin viewer on the main site. Inverting vertices does not make the texture show up. I am using Blender 2.54, though I have tested this in 2.49 as well.
My texture:
Edit: it works in both versions now!
For some reason, the head texture didn't map correctly to the Blender model, so I had to copy the head to a different place on the image file. I left the first head so you could see where I moved it. The second is the one placed on the right.
I've noticed the mapping mishap occurs with some other skins, as well. Not sure why.
I did try other skins, some of them work, some do not. I redownloaded the .blend file as well; I can still replicate the issue. I fixed my texture, though! See my edit. =)

I think I know the answer. We have two types of skins in Minecraft: one with helmet, and one without. Read more information at How to use extra head textures topic.
Basically, the game checks if the texture file is transparent. If it is, then it assumes there is a "helmet" texture. If it is not transparent, then it falls back to head-without-helmet.
My bet is this Blender file only works with "new" textures, containing a helmet. If yours does not contain one, I think you can replace the helmet section of your texture with transparent pixels.
Awesome.
