I've heard people talk about some kind of folder in the minecraft program files or something like that that has all the skins for everything in the game. I couldn't find it, I couldn't even find any files for minecraft on my computer. Does anyone know where to find it? (if it even exists)

About this, I Don't use the skin folder in my .minecraft Is it important? It has a Bunch of skins that i never use. Am i allowed to delete ALL the skins in the folder (Leave more space for Minecraft) Or will it Mess up my game?

In response to both of you, don't delete it or mess with it. Basically, it contains skins for mobs, not players. The folder contains the files that mobs use for their appearances, so don't touch them unless you're making a resource pack.
Question: would it hurt my game if I zipped the files together? It takes my anti-malware stuff 20 to 30 minutes to only do minecraft, and zipping the files will probably make the anti malware run faster. Would it work? thanks.

Same for me, it is a bit annoying... Also, if I could use a zip. it would be more secure than just telling my antivirus to skip that area.
This is what i do , is that i made a minecraft skin folder on my desk top put all my skins in there . then at log in screen it has the skin changer then i just have path set for desk top ... then there is space in you mine craft folder too , if have on your desk top can have sub folder for hoildays and stuff to what you want to make it . this is just a thought
If you are talking about the folder located at .minecraft\assets\skins, that is just a cache of all player skins that have been downloaded, including your own skins (I only see a single skin, my own, in this folder, saved using an encoded name) and everybody else on multiplayer (so if you play online a lot it can get very large).
Also, it is perfectly safe to delete the contents, and otherwise they have no effect on the game itself; if you want to actually change any in-game textures you want to make a resource pack and directly changing the game assets is not supported and the launcher will simply redownload any files that you do try to change:
Everything in this folder that does not belong here will be deleted.
This folder will be kept sync with the Launcher at every run.
If you wish to modify assets/resources in any way, use Resource Packs.

(this is from a file named "READ_ME_I_AM_VERY_IMPORTANT" in the legacy assets folder used by 1.6.4. I presume the same still applies to the current version assets as the files in the indexes folder include the hashes for every file. This even applies to things like the Minecraft jar; mods have to do hacky things to prevent the launcher from replacing modified files and overall it is simply not worth the trouble when there are "legal" ways to do it built-in)

What is the point in the skins folder?
can I change my skin?

go to .minecraft, assets, skins, and you see lots of skins
Okay so I'm at the skin folder but I need to look at them all at once, they're in file form

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
