Backstory & Plan!
Welcome to the ZigZag WIP!
This will be my work in progress/update thread until I am ready to release it for download. For now I will only cover the 1.8 version of vanilla minecraft, but in the future I have plans to expand this to many other mods, including most of Direwolf20, as this is the modpack I play with my old roommates.
I'm aiming to have this texture pack follow my natural style, which tends to be stylized, textured and angular. It should also feel familiar to the base game, so it's not too confusing to get around. Please always feel free to shout out suggestions as I go!
About the Artist:
I am a video game artist by trade who works in a studio full time so I will try to update as much as I can, keeping in mind that this is really a side-project that will mostly done after work and on the weekends.
Also important to note for anyone interested, if I ever post a screenshot of a shaderized version of the game, that I am running a slightly modded chocapic shader mod (slightly more blue emissives)
Looking pretty sweet so far! I especially love the logs and leaves. Cobblestone looks really cool too, but the large triangular(ish) stone in the center of the block creates some tiling issues. Maybe try breaking it up into two smaller stones?
Grass and stone textures seem a bit plain. I know that was your intent, but right now I'd say they sort of don't fit in with more detailed blocks like your cobble and trees. Maybe try adding in some detail?
Actual ores look good, but perhaps try giving them more of an embedded look. They look a little tacked-on at the moment, though maybe it's because of how smooth the stone is.
All in all you're off to a great start. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with next.
It's customary on this forum to post pictures without shaders so we can get a good look at the textures without having to wonder what's shader and what's texture.
With that said... WOW! This is inspiring. This could seriously contend with Sphax and Trition in terms of quality. It's a little too default-esque for my taste, but it's still extremely well done.
As Duru said, a lot of the textures either have repeats or are two plain. The logs are also an offender of the repeating patterns with the large "h" shape at the top/bottom of the tile standing out in a pretty pronounced way. It's not horrible, though.
It's going to be a lot of work to get this completed for the default alone, what more all of the mods in that pack. I sincerely hope that you manage it, though. This is really great!
Those are some great-looking textures you got here, buddy! The only issue I have is with the side grass, which I think lacks depth (or something like that). I think I'll be following your work for the next days .
Hay thanks guys! And especially for your crits and comments! I'm continuing to balance the need more details in certain areas with textures I want to be restful for the eyes.
Here's a shot of the new and improved grass, I still kept it fairly simple, but just pumped up it's texture a little. I want the grass in the pack to sort of act like an area of rest for the eye like. Took your guys crit about the side-grass texture as well, it felt way to flat before, so I broke it up with this little leafy sort of look.
I took the shaders off as well, so you guys can get a better sense of what is texture vs. what is shader. (dirt still has some seeming issues
Here's a shot of the oak planks/wood and the glass:
Here's also a non-shader shot of the bricks, and oak trees:
Hm, your wood planks look great! Your side grass seems a little better, but I'd say there's still something a little bit weird with it. Also, I still can't believe you have not received more attention yet!
Thanks Elzalga! I'll be continuing to keep an eye on the grass side, but Probably move on to more of the plantlife to see how I feel once more stuff is in.
Also! Just updated the main post with a name and some shots of the textures, including some early versions of some items.
Dawwwwww thanks so much guys! Super happy to hear that people are enjoying it! I'm going to start giving some zip files to my friends to sort of beta test it, and then I'd love to open it up to the forum for some WIP testing!
Work continues slowly but surely (busy week at work with GDC n' Pax) But I managed to get the peony, tall rosebush and the orange tulip in:
Oh also some Tall fern is in! ..I still want to adjust the colors of the roses a bit:
*Slow Claps* This is fantastic. I for one am a fan of the artwork/style you've put into this! Kinda reminds me of SummerFields or JollyCraft! I can't wait to download this and play it!
UPDATE: 7/11/2015
ZIGZAG is now available for download! For this reason, I've chosen to move from this thread to the official pack thread here: http://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/mapping-and-modding/resource-packs/2472054-zigzag-128x128-hd-by-jamizzles-painterly-cartoony

Oak logs, and clear glass pane!
And finally for today, some cracked stone, various ores, stone slabs, and bricks

Good tip on that cobble! I'll have to adjust it now that I've done a few more of the stone textures, I'll probably revisit and fix the tiling!
Totally agree that the grass is really too plain right now, I'm thinking maybe something subtle like:http://img2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20140102130713/disney/images/c/c7/EyvindEarleStepbyStep2.jpg
Heck that's the reference I'll probably go with for some of the trees as well.

Early work on the Spruce logs/jungle logs/ revised cobble.
In the phase where I am Just painting up the general shapes and testing stuff out.
I still need to do a tiling pass/polish pass on these.

As Alvoria said it could compete with sphax and tirton
If i am not mistaken i beleve that there is a tilling error in the jungle logs
