This is all pertaining to version Minecraft 1.13 (though these problems have existed for several versions now).
First question: I've figured out how to change the item that shows for spawning eggs but I can't figure out how to get rid of the color overlay. Does anyone know of a way to do this? Some of the images are downright unrecognizeable after the color overlay goes on, so I'd like to get rid of it altogether if that's an option.
Second question: Does anyone know how to change the colors in the recipe book? Example below. I'm not referring to the square texture under "all" (already changed that), but the overlay color overlay in the actual crafting area itself.
These things have been driving me nuts so if anyone can offer any insight it would be much appreciated! Thanks.

For the first question, yes you can change the colors, but you have to use OptiFine or MCPatcher.
In your resourcepack, you'll need to make a properties file in \assets\minecraft\mcpatcher called "color". In this file you can disable the colors of the spawn eggs for each mob. For example, to the properties file you can add
egg.shell.Zombie=FFFFFF
egg.spots.Zombie=FFFFFF
and the textures for the zombie egg will then have no color, so your original colors for the spawn eggs will appear as normal.
Here's an example pack I mashed together in a couple minutes if it helps to dissect that.

The second question, I am 99% sure there is no way to change that red without mods. It's built into Minecraft's java.
