So I was looking in the assets folder to see the sounds but there was no sounds or records folders. So are the folders somewhere else then? I want to find it.
Also, if you would answer this too, how would I change a sound in my resource pack then?
Alvoria explains your exact problem in another post someone else posted. Post here.
Here is what he said:
Quote from Alvoria»The file names and locations of the audio files for Minecraft have been obfuscated because people kept putting them up for download, either as-is or as part of their own packs with one or two other (usually also stolen) songs thrown in. Yes, the very thing you've asked someone to do is the reason you can't easily find those files.
You don't need to extract the default files to change them with a resource pack. You just need to know the file name, and what folder it goes in. You can find a list of paths on The Wiki.
The person asked if someone one could give him a download link with all of the song & sounds from Minecraft. That (above) is what Alovria said.
You just need to know the list of paths that the sounds go into your resource pack, but you don't need to have the sound/song files.
Thanks! But is there a way to play those sound files so I can see what they sound like?
Also, to make sure I understand, would the record sounds be under assets/minecraft/sounds/records ?

In Minecraft itself you can use the /playsound command. You can find out how to use that from the Minecraft Wiki as well.
Correct.
