Hello, people of the resource pack community! It's me, formerly known as SamMaher, and I'm here today to introduce a challenge to you guys. As for those who have no knowledge of a palette challenge, I will quickly explain the basics:
You are to construct a resource pack, only able to use colours in the palette provided to create it. The resource pack must be filled with all the textures required, which will be mentioned down below. A deadline is issued, and packs must be completed before that time. Packs not completed will still be put into the voting, but will have a less likely chance of winning. Packs can be done in any resolution desired, but any custom 3d textures are prohibited. Lastly, all packs will be voted on over an allocated period of time using a forum poll at the top of the page. Prizes will also be listed below.
Without any further ado, let us start with the palette for this challenge!
The Jubilance Palette:
There are no pure blacks or whites in this palette. Transparencies are shown via a guide to the bottom left of the palette They are the amount of transparency to be used in translucent blocks such as ice and water. The transparencies are not to be overlapped in any way. Colours used must match the palette to the exact hexadecimal, in which transparencies don't affect. No other transparencies are to be used. In cases where this image does not show, you can find it here.
There will be three prizes. Third place will obtain a bronze trophy gif image for their signature. Second place will get a silver one, and first will get a gold one. Simple as that. I apologise for not having anything more to give, but if anyone else is able to throw anything else in, please say so or contact me via pm.
Textures Required
The textures that are to be made for each pack can be found here. Simply put, all naturally generated blocks. Excluding structures and other dimensions.
I am aware that there are a lot of textures to do, so I am allocating one and a half months for this competition. It starts as of now.
The Deadline Is: 1st of June, 2016
I will not worry about exact times, as I do not wish to be so strict. Voting will then go on for about a month or two, and then the winners will be announced and prizes handed out.
Participants:
If you wish to participate in this event, simply comment saying so. I will then add you to this list.
So far we have: Ringoster
AmazingMCza
Ignaf
AngeloTangelo
It is awesome to be able to host such a thing, and I might even try my own hand in the challenge. I will not be in the voting poll at the end, though. If I'm missing something important in the thread, please say so! And lastly, it would be great if people could show progress and such with their packs, and just discuss things here. Let's keep this thread lively!
That is way too many textures. Why not require all naturally generated blocks instead? I'd also ask for some clarification on what you mean by "custom 3D textures". If you're talking about 3D models, I would encourage you to leave them un-prohibited. There's a lot of artists who enjoy creating 3D models to go with their texture works.
I'm pretty much in with everyone else. I already have THREE packs that are woefully incomplete that I could/should be working on. I don't really need a fourth.
But yes, the palette is nice. The transparency restriction is needlessly complicated (I'm assuming that it only applies to things like water and stained glass, correct?) but the colors are otherwise well chosen and flow well together.
Although... I could be evil and spew out a bucket fill since this is the only contest I've ever seen that does not forbid them.

I really like the palette!
To be honest, that's a much better idea than simply throwing a bunch of texture names out. And it is smaller, so you do have a point. I'll make sure to update the original post. Thanks. ^^
It's a nice palette. Not sure what's meant by the transparency guidelines, are you allowed to make each colour transparent to the levels specified? Is it more of a palette for a digital painting style,(layering transparent colours) because many textures won't support transparency alone.
There's far too many textures, and the deadline is too far away so I won't be participating but good luck with it, the palette looks very versatile.
By transparency, I implied that they be the percentage restrictions on how translucent blocks like water and ice might look, as guessed by Alvoria below. And I understand the overwhelming amount of textures. The only reason I had such a long deadline was to make sure they'd be time to actually complete them all. But I'll take the advise to heart, and half the amount of time given until the deadline. Thank you. :3

I see your situation and understand perfectly. And I won't stop you from bucket fill packs. I'm honestly not too bothered, as long as I manage to somehow rack up some participants. ^^;
EDIT: Also I'd like to point out that the primary green ramp is lacking a midtone between the darkest and second darkest colors, which will make naturey-stuff have very contrasty shadows. And in the bottom of that same ramp, your brightest highlight is very similar to the second brightest one.
My point: If it were my palette (which it's not, feel free to ignore me), in that vertical green ramp you have, I'd swap the brightest shade for having a color between the two darkest shades. Just an idea

As much as I wanna take this bit of feedback into account, it is meant to be a bit of a challenge, so I'm curious on how people will overcome this. ^^;

I made a couple textures to try the palette and it is quite challenging to use. I couldn't find many colour combinations with the right levels of contrast for my liking.
So I won't be participating but I will be following this to see how others approach it. I'll be interested to see what styles people come up with.
Aww, I thought those were some pretty nice textures, but I understand. ^^
Is it just me or does it look a lot like the 'Chromey' pack I did for SPS3? Wasn't my intention either way.
I realized after the fact that some of these aren't naturally generated... but stuff like planks is kind of essential anyway. And I spent way too much time on that iron block to let it go to waste.
I desided to do something highly experimental, to make things more interesting.
Feel free to leave some criticism.
I think I will include more CTM textured blocks. So, does someone know a fast way or a tool to unstitch the ctm 12x4 tilesets? Didn't found anything helpful.
@cherry: It look's like you mixed some colors of the palette amd I don't think thats allowed. Just wanted to point that out.
I think it actually looks quite nice. The CTM blocks have a nice effect and give it a bit more liveliness. Really liking it. One tip would be to have a few variations on the grass block, instead of the two other variations you did. Like, maybe rotate it or such. Might spruce it up a little more. Other than that, it's awesome. ^^

I actually find myself really liking this one. I did a quick search for the pack that you specified but I couldn't find it. Nonetheless, it has a really nice retro feel going for it, I think. I especially love the trees and ores. Good job. :3
EDIT: Actually, there is one thing I could give feedback on. Hmm, make that two. The emerald and diamond ore should differ, but that's my own opinion. Secondly would be the line at the top of the grass side. But again, you can do whatever with this feedback. ^^;

I like the palette, so I'll probably give this a go.

Haha, awesome to hear that we have a nice bunch of people wanting to try it out. Looking forward to what you have to offer, guys. :3
Okay, that's fine.
I guess I'll give this a try

Those look pretty awesome. Liking what you show. :3
Awesome. Wish you well! ^^
Question:
Do you need to customize colormaps?
I am a "Cherry",I love textures and nice peeps.I also do Pixel art
Hmmm. Wasn't intending on it, but if you feel experimental, give it a crack. ^^
I think the assumption is that you'd fill them with white, so foliage stuffs complies with the palette.

Of course! Sounds awesome. :3
Although when showing textures could you maybe expand the picture a bit? It seems small and blurred? Also, it seems you have a double post. >u<
Other than that, cool. ^^
K...I'll expand them...
BTW this is meh first contest
