Me and a couple of friends are starting whats hopefully going to become a big and popular MMORPG server for Minecraft. The server is going to have a Fantasy/Medieval Style with a big variety of biomes and styles of Settlements. So I have looked around and can't really decide what recourse pack to use. We have been planning to use the Conquest_ Pack since it adds all the different meta-Data which in gives both the developers and the players a big variety of building options a lot of interior and and building blocks. So I have recently looked into either Dokucraft or Gerudokucraft. which both are good packs that adds a bit more voxel style into the game. However I don't think that neither of them have as big of a meta data library as Conquest_.
And I am using 1.7.10 for the server...
So is it hard to add in Meta blocks into a Pack?
And what do you think would be the best option for our server? Go with Conquest or Change?
And what is preferred? Conquest_ or something else, I mean to get the most out of Conquest_ you need to install either optifine or Mcpather and thats bother too. If yo have any ideas please I would love to hear get your input.
I'm pretty sure that as of 1.8 Metadata has been removed. I think the only way it can be used now is maybe with MCPatcher, but I'm also not sure of that.

MCPatcher was always the way in which metadata variants were accessible BEFORE 1.8. Now that there's no metadata variants to be had MCPatcher can't be made to change textures based on them. This was effectively an unused vanilla feature being accessed via mod, but that feature has now been removed with no way to restore it even with modding.
This depends on how artistically and technically adept you are. If you already know how to set up a resource pack, then it will be about one step harder than that. Something that needs to be learned, certainly, but really not much more difficult than what you already know.
If you don't know how to make a resource pack, well, it's going to be a bit of a learning curve. Particularly if you want to add your own textures to the pack which will require being a good enough artist that the styles don't clash. If this is the case, best wishes. You'll need them.

That's kind of a loaded question. It's like saying "which of these two packs do you think suits my build better?" without actually showing your build. Well I won't know if the dress makes you look fat without pics, so I'm going to leave that to your judgement: Whichever one actually does what you want it to do for your server.
Just remember that those packs you've mentioned, while licensed for use on a server, have conditions that go along with that use. If you can't fulfill them, then you shouldn't use them. This should be obvious, but you'd be surprised how many server owners care nothing for artists' rights. Hopefully you're not one of them.

That's really the issue with Conquest. To get it to work properly people have to install a mod... which is not something that should be required for a server that is not explicitly a modded Minecraft experience. And even then, neither MCPatcher nor Optifine is set up where a server can require it be installed for entry into the server. So to use a modded feature, you're already segmenting your user base a little bit. Some people are adamantly against mods or just have no idea how to install them. This is something to think about.
As to what is preferred, that depends on whom you're asking. Some people have lower-end computers and want to have a low-res pack because it won't tax their system. Some people want the highest-res pack possible because their system can take it. Some people will be happy with anything as long as it's not default... and others will avoid your server simply because it requires a pack that isn't default. Again, you need to consider what's best for your server not what any particular person wants.
Hi! thanks for the informative response, It really help me get some stuff spinning. So what I was actually wondering is what pack is the best for a fantasy/medieval server including buildings and settlements?
Hello!

Thanks in Advanced

So I was half right, no Meta Data in 1.8, but I was wrong about the MCPatcher part...
Okay, I mentioned now that i'm going to be using 1.7.10 witch still has Metablocks.
So do you guys have any suggestions? that was why I stared this post, not to discuss about when meta blocks was removed.
Ah, sorry. Got mixed up by Typhon's comment. I'll try to address the original questions now:
