My 8-year-old niece enjoys playing Minecraft, but gets bored a bit too easily to make for a good addition to our multiplayer fun (my dad, me, and one kid hopping through a Super Hostile, Survival Island, or else just quasi-creative local server). I've been trying to make her a custom resource pack in the hopes that the graphics would better appeal to her sense of aesthetics and thus better engage her in the game.
There are a few things I know she likes: Pink (in particular, Hot Pink). Princess Bubblegum from Adventure Time. Hello Kitty. (The other thing I know she likes is the song "Royals," though I don't see how that would work into a resource pack.)
I'm stitching together pieces from several girly resource packs, trying for a decently pink pack with some appropriate contrast. Got bits of GirlCraft, Cheerful pack, Cutie pack, Lolita, Sugar pack and High on Sugar, and I forget what all. It's a bit taxing to get this all together, more so because pink is at the opposite end of the color wheel from my favorites, but I'm hoping to get it done the time she comes over this weekend.
While I'm working on this, though, I thought I'd request a set of armors specifically created for her. These can be 32x (preferred) or 16x, and ideally would include the full set of dye-compatible leather, chainmail, iron, gold, and diamond armor.
I figure design-wise it should run like this:
Leather is something based on Princess Bubblegum or Hello Kitty, probably with hot pink pants/leggings. Dye-compatible parts, please (I assume you don't need to make the whole thing dyed, right? can you make e.g. a t-shirt with a picture of Hello Kitty's face, where the t-shirt color (but not the face) gets dyed?).
Diamond is fancy armor with large pink accents.
Iron is purple/lavender (like the color from the GirlCraft pack), and a bit frilly.
Gold is a girlish swimsuit or ballerina outfit or something equally ephemeral. Again, likely based on Princess Bubblegum or Hello Kitty.
Chainmail is something weird or off-the-wall, and if it's possible to make the boots look like skates then please do (she likes skating).
If you have any better suggestions for these tiers, please do speak up; I'm open to alterations. This was just what I came up with while thinking about what she'd like to run around in. And in case it's not clear: Although I'm making my pack for her in hopes to have it done in time for her visit, I don't expect that kind of quick turnaround for custom requests, so no time limit here.

This is one of the most different requests I have seen. That meant it a good way.
Everything you asked for is possible, the problem is finding someone with the time to do it. I might try, but armor is one of those things I've never been fond of.
P.S. If you do use copper cookies suggestion (which is a good one), use one of the minecraft songs that you would be willing to listen to over and over and over and over and.... You get the point.
Roses are red, violets are blue, sugar is sweet, and so are you.
The roses are wilted, the violets are dead, the sugar bowl's empty, and so is your head.
I'm not very good with texturing but I am good with files... If you like CopperCookie's idea I could do that and put it in a resource pack for you. But you would have to tell me witch disc to replace. Just an offer...

'Cause I like cheese and you know that, and bacon is-spankin' and you know that. Don't hate me 'cause I'm beautiful, don't hate me 'cause I'm beautiful...
I'll see about getting a decent screenshot tonight. In case it helps to have info before then: GirlCraft started me off with a very "clean" look, so much in contrast to my normal gritty/realistic Painterly that I haven't yet found any blocks that I can grab from Painterly (though some of the flowers and items and such seem like they will work). I'll be using Lolita's higher-definition stuff for bits and bobs (such as Netherwart, and the frilly pink bed), assuming I understand correctly that you can mix-and-match HD and normal. And the main colors will be pink, cyan, and lavender, basically what the GirlCraft pack started with (I'll be using cyan for stone and lavender for metal, with some potential exceptions, and a mixed batch for wood with pink for most wooden items but 6 distinct colors (possibly the "neon" set like you see in highlighters) for wooden planks).
As for the music, if want to make a pack for that, I'd much appreciate it. Do you mean the actual songs or like MIDI renditions of them? Is it difficult to replace the songs? because I remember it being quite the ordeal when I tried to research it a couple years ago... has that changed?
My niece and nephews all like some of the Minecraft filk/parody songs (my nephew and I sing them whenever we hear the original come on the radio or at skating). Ones I can think of include Don't Mine at Night (both versions - the original and the FIM one), Join Me Stevie, I'll Make a Cake, 500 Chunks, We're Playing Minecraft (the Gonna Die Young parody), A Creeper Like You, This Is My Biome, Cube Land, In Search of Diamonds, Some Items That I Used to Own, Minecraft Style, Mine By, and Creeper Rap.
Just mentioned this to my nephew and he added TNT, a song I didn't think I was familiar with, but upon looking it up on YouTube, yup, that's one we know.

Here are some screenshots I took highlighting the bits that seem to be the most in keeping with the "feel" I'm going for. Note that some things, like the bed, jack o' lantern, the book-and-quill in my hand, they're at 32x32 resolution and I intend to have other decorative elements at 32x32 as well. Most of the natural blocks such as dirt, stone, and trees will be 16x16, with the plants (flowers, ferns, etc.) being 32x32, food at 32x, and so forth. I think I'm okay with the armor being 32x32 (or, perhaps, the lower armors being 16x16 and the higher ones being more decorative at 32x32?), but I'm a little nervous about the higher def elements creating lag, because our living room computer (the one she'll be using) isn't nearly as good at handling MC as our main family computer, and the kids often complain about the lag.
Anyway, it's all a very clean look with few color graduations per piece and not much noise. Decorations of pink, blue, cyan, and lavender here and there. Like I said before, I'm aiming for each color meaning a base material (wood, stone, metal, gems), but haven't got there yet because mostly I'm just putting the pieces in place to make the whole thing work before I get around to trading colors and such. It looks like I won't have it done in time for her visit but enough of it ought to be together for me to set her up with it and see what she thinks.
After I get hers straight, I'm gonna try for one for my 10-year-old nephew, who seems to be red-green colorblind (we haven't gotten confirmation yet but he's certainly mixing up colors no normal-sighted person would ever have trouble with, and confuses green and grey a lot). That's gonna be fun. I want to make a nice colorful pack for him with colors he can see and enjoy, and not a "handicapped" pack like the couple I've seen where e.g. ores are labeled with giant letters and such. Something more natural yet not confusing.

No, it is not difficult at all to replace them (At least not for me). If you would like the MIDI rendition of the song then I can do that but only if you say so.
But right now I have no idea what you want me to do. If you want me to make it then I need you to tell me what song to replace with what disc...

Do you have any idea how many Minecraft versions of Royals exist? I didn't even think to look. I have found at least a dozen within just the first page of YouTube search results, and spent the last half-hour listening to far too many just trying to find a pretty good one for this pack. Wow.
I need you to tell me what song to replace with what disc...
Okay, a quick look at the wiki says there are twelve discs total so far. I assume these play only when used as music discs, and are not part of the general songs that play at morning, noon, and night; is there any need to stick close to the original lengths?
If not, I suppose it doesn't make much difference which goes where, but I guess I'll sort 'em out:
13: Don't Mine at Night (FIM version)
cat: 500 Chunks
blocks: Don't Mine at Night (original version)
chirp: Mining ()
far: Cube Land
mall: This Is My Biome
mellohi: A Creeper Like You
stal: Some Items That I Used to Own
strad: TNT
ward: Join Me Stevie
11: Creeper Rap
wait: I'll Make a Cake
I do want the actual songs, though I'm anticipating getting sick of the repetition pretty quick. Would it be too much to ask for a MIDI pack as well (assuming MIDIs exist for these songs) that I can switch in when the inevitable "I can't bear to hear that one more time!" kicks in? If it's okay, I assume the two Don't Mine at Nights would be too similar as MIDIs, so just the FIM one and switch out the other for In Search of Some Diamonds.
Alvoria, that is delightfully detailed and perfectly in keeping with my color scheme, and I'm sure she will love it when I show her. Thank you!

Well you don't have to use the pack as well. Unless you share your account with your niece, but even then you can use your own pack, she can use her own, and so on.
About 1 hour and 30 minutes later, I am finished. Here's the download: http://goo.gl/Z5zVxv
Note: I don't know what the "FIM version" is so I just used the regular version for 13 and I used "In Search Of Some Diamonds" for blocks.
If there is anything wrong you're just gonna have to deal with it... ...Just kidding, I'll fix it. About the MIDI pack... MIDIs do not exist for most of the songs, so making a pack for them is almost impossible. All the songs that are remakes of other songs probably have MIDIs but the Original songs don't I could make one with all of the songs that do have MIDIs but the earliest I can have it done is next weekend.
P.S. Some of the songs start a few seconds after you put the disc in.

Yeah, but I'll still be hearing her soundtrack from the living room (there's open air between here and there), and if she particularly likes the song you can bet she'll turn it up. Unless my dad is sleeping, in which case we can usually keep the kids reasonably quiet out of respect for him (well, more out of "please let him have a long nap so we get more computer time," but whatever works, right?).
Note: I don't know what the "FIM version" is so I just used the regular version for 13 and I used "In Search Of Some Diamonds" for blocks. Just got back from a very long trip and have to wake up early tomorrow so I won't be able to test this right away but I will let you know as soon as I get a chance. Thank you for putting it together.
Sorry about the acronym - that's "Friendship Is Magic," the new My Little Pony series, and after a while you get so used to an acronym that you presume everyone knows it, so sorry about that. It's actually , but since the pack has the original version and since In Search of Some Diamonds is a very good song, I'm not going to fuss. (The song, and particularly the animation, is actually really good - like, professional quality animation, though perhaps I wouldn't go that far describing the song - so if you like the original song I encourage you to check it out. It's cute.)
Next weekend would be fine (and even if you can't do it that early, that's also fine). We barely got computer time this weekend due to everything that was going on, so it appears that my nephew showed my niece part of the texture pack I hadn't quite finished up (thank you, kid, way to spoil the surprise), she didn't exactly realize it was made specifically for her, but it didn't matter much because we had to get to bed super early last night to run out at 5:30 AM this morning for a big long trip to Mt. St. Helens (fascinating tour, btw - astounding how much the landscape changed in just hours), got back just prior to midnight, and the kids went home... so I guess I've got more time to complete it and if they show up next week I can show her the pack with the new armor then.
As for the MIDI versions, I didn't really expect MIDIs of the parody versions, though I do think the music is a little different (whether on purpose to avoid problems or just because they don't know how to do the music right). More like MIDIs of the originals that we can then sing along with using parody lyrics (either out loud or just in our heads). I know I do that when some of the originals get played at the rink.

Glad it's good, thus far. I'll message you this weekend about the MIDI thing.

Okay, so I've got the songs in one pack and the diamond armor (which looks awesome) in another pack. Love how you can use multiple packs these days.
Anyone care to make some cute leather armor - like a Hello Kitty t-shirt and hot pink pants, or something? Would love to see the hat look like it's got ears, if that's even possible.
