well some people do this as a job and they need people to use adfly otherwise the mod/ texturepack will just stop being updated i think as long as it has correct info about what it is then adfly away if you dont think they deserve it then dont download and dont use
Wait. So adf.ly doesn't donate money if you use AdBlock? ... Wow. Didn't know that. Time to allow the ads from that site, I guess. I LIKE supporting texture packs I like. D=
....to be completely honest, I use ad.fly as a way to track downloads. It's got those nice stats and breakdowns by country and stuff. I just assume that the adfly downloads are a third of what I actually get and do the math from there. The amount of money anyone makes from that site is so ridiculously small that I don't think it'll ever amount to anything worthwhile.
Which is why it's pretty ridiculous to have it as your only download. People need to get a grip on reality. No one is going to make any money off that site. I figure anyone with an adfly as their only download is going to get exactly what they deserve and be sorely disappointed by the results.

This isn't a very good excuse for anyone. There are other ways you can track your links, giving you link referrer, country, OS, browser, ect. One of them is Goo.gl, which offers link shortening with all of those stats displayed in nice little graphs, and there are no ads. Also, it gives you a QR code that people can scan to automatically use the shortened link. (If you want to see an example, go here)
I'm just saying it's fine for someone like you to intentionally and admittedly use it to make money for your work, but other people who have hardly taken any time to learn, improve, or even texture saying that they use it just for stats and shortening (which shortening isn't needed on the forums), just isn't believable or justified, as there are many alternatives that aren't a money-maker for them.

Oh cool. Thanks for this Lemon. I was using mediafire because I like to see how many downloads I get. If I use this I can switch over to using dropbox. Awesome!
I was also shocked when I visited mediafire without adblock and think It's much worse then adfly. But yes, those 5-minutes-packs are annoying. And there is another problem: Adfly was down today - at least here. Not very good for packs with no alternative. Has anyone an Alternative to mediafire? I like the downloadcount, but thats about it...

Post right above yours. Use dropbox for hosting and track downloads with goo.gl.
I read that. But adf.ly -> goo.gl -> dropbox ist also annoying.
Just use Goo.gl --> dropbox
there is almost no reason for 2 link shorteners.
I personally use Google Drive (with a trick) for a direct download file.
Goo.gl is not like adf.ly, There is no "in transit" page like adf.ly has. For instance, with a direct link, if you click a goo.gl link, it just downloads, doesn't change the page you're on.

That's my point. But its nice to have at least some reward for all my work with adfly. And since I use an alternative link, adfly doesn't give me the exact numbers and I don't know if people using adblock count in that.
Does not bother me in the least. A heck of a lot of work goes into doing stuff for MC, I have no problem saying thank you by waiting an extra few seconds for adf.ly. I use AdBlock so I never actually see any ads.
I myself use Adblock Plus, A good Google Chrome addon. It works greatly, but recently every time I try to go on a adf.ly link i get malaware. My antivirus goes insane and removes it but it stinks how everything is adf.fly.
This thread is pretty old now, but I suppose I'll contribute anyway.
Adf.ly has more ads than any other file host, but I don't get the ads, and I wasn't aware that I wasn't donating anything. I use adblock plus on both firefox and chrome, so I never get ads from things like that, and I personally find that the ratio of downloaders over adf.ly to the number of malware and virus receivers is too great to make me inclined to allow ads on it. This is Minecraft, and that said, making texture packs isn't really and shouldn't be seen as a paying job, even with small amounts of income that comes with adf.ly, and when releasing a texture pack for a game, you should be encouraged to continue based on the fans and supporters and the enjoyment you get from making the pack. At no point should income be your push to continue a texture pack, and with the income rate of adf.ly, it wouldn't be a good source of money, so encouragement is the leading purpose of the adf.ly and it shouldn't be needed for that.
Needless to say, it doesn't bother me if people use adf.ly, but I wouldn't use it myself, it may be problematic for people without adblock plus and the majority of people that do use it would be able to provide the same support with other file hosts, my personal recommendations are Planet Minecraft and Media Fire.
I only hate adf.ly --> mediafire download. If I turn off adblock it becomes an adpocalypse!
I really don't mind when they put it to a direct link though, like dropbox or something (that's how I do it). I also use planetminecraft as an alternate download link as well, just so I can get extra feedback and download stats.
I don't know what you guys are talking about. I go through the adf.ly>mediafire link for mcpatcher every time I download it. I only used adblock back when animated ads lagged my computer, and even now those links have never done anything bad.
To be blunt, I think that adf.ly has a detrimental effect on the modding community as a whole, for a lot of reasons. I personally refrain from using it, either going for the DDL link or using de-adfly if there is no option.
If I like someones work and use it in-game for some time, then I donate to show my support. I respect the work and effort most mod developers place into their mods.
Fortunately (for me at least), the api mod repository that mojang is working on will put an end to the matter entirely.
Could you please define what you mean by De-Adfly?
I use adf.ly as my only download link, I haven't had any problems personally. I also use it in PMC. No one had told me that they had any issue with it. I know people don't think that the little cents add up, but they do. The few bills
If there were someone that was as reliable as adf.ly and payed more I'd use them... Adcraft.co had looked like a good go when it started but it quickly failed.
I know people would much rather have a direct link but I believe that hard work should merit those who might not be 'popular' to have an adf.ly link. (btw all my packs are chalk full of hard work and hand drawn havoc so I hope people don't mind it too much that I bother them for a few seconds to make up for my few hundred hours on these packs)
But I do agree that bucket-filets and other packs that rank like rotting fish phali can go fork themselves on having solely adf.ly

It does add up, yes, albeit very slowly... I've made $40 out of 4 months with my pack but I suppose that's also with at least 15k downloads being the normal planet minecraft ones...

Very reasonable, I'd think.
I don't use it, myself. No need to.
I tried the deadfly thing and it didnt work but i googled deadfly and found another
