i dunno... glimmar has been making a lot of big changes lately, so is pack is becoming a bit more awesome.
but really, i cant imagine that we're competing for the best steampunk pack, since we have such different ideas of how it should be done. mine is a dark, apocalyptic, surreal, steampunk world built of the junk left behind from a world ravaged by a time inversion disaster.
glimmar's pack is a crisp, clean victorian industrial steampunk pack. one with which you might expect to see airships and the like built. as much as i like airships, i gotta admit, my pack isn't so great for them.
No comparisons needed and shouldn't be had. You both have your own artistic take and style. Worlds apart, yet both out of the universe in class and awesomeness. And I'm a fallout 3 fanatic so your apocalypse type feel is win to me.
Oh, you're both being very kind to an old timer!
I completely agree, we both have different styles and ways of doing things, as do we all. Isn't that what keeps us all building and creating with Minecraft? As it is, Minecraft doesn't have enough texture packs that deviate away from the normal medieval fantasy setting, not that there's anything wrong with that genre.
However, I like to see things that stretch the imagination and the possibilities, and that's why I like 13th's work ...not simply because it's got steampunk in the title. I'm just very glad there's someone else out there doing something dark and challenging for a change, there's only a few of us ...doesn't feel quite so lonely any more.
Besides, he's also a gentleman and a scholar and I'd hate to think anyone thought we were in competition with each other.

you'd be surprised. it does come up on occasion. XD
Finally finished that large chest texture. i gotta say, this is probably the record for the longest ive spent on a texture. it took well over a week, but its finally done. i like how it came out, too. i might make the copper rods on the top a bit darker though.
Just kidding. That's pretty great. I like the keys and separate lock boxes in particular. You have a good eye for detail.
the idea is that it was built of scavenged parts, and since the only real threat is that the box could be destroyed completely, or perhaps ravaged by animals who lack thumbs, the keys are kept inside for easy access, even though it circumvents a layer of security. i hoped it would really make people think.
I like all of the stuff you have done in this texture pack exept for the creeper can you change it to somthing else like... a robot bottem and then a T.N.T head
i did my xp orbs (the things that drop when you kill stuff)
the idea here is that since xp is used only for enchanting tools/armor, that xp would be scrap material for improvement.
here's what's what.
1. nut
2. clockwork windup key
3. small gear.
4. bolt
5. screw
6. med gear
7. pipe with valve
8. spring
9. some kind of nuclear reactor battery
10. boiler
11. big gear
(the last 5 are unused by the game, and in the default the places are filled by the 4th one so i went with it)
i still have a few small bugs to work out, to get rid of that annoying yellow/green glow.
I like it. Would it be possible to incorporate some of those into gear/tools/weapons, so that when you repair them you could be using the parts you collected to replace the pieces on the items?

yeah, i probably should use some of these for that. especially when you consider that its almost impossible to get any xporbs larger than the first 3 to show up... not sure why.
i think this is really cool. i like it even more than glimars! i like the ores, just make them inside the stone, like some shading around the edge. over all, very good.
Nice tracks. It looks as though it's made for practicality and not for looks, which I really like.
Very nice work, love the animation!
As for the minecarts, you could,as Vojife said, add rust and holes, and you could add a broken light(s) on the front, I think that'd look cool.
i wonder... since the inner and outer wall of the minecart have different textures, if i added holes, they really would appear to be holes showing some space and the texture behind it, adding some depth...
Great rails design, goes really really well with the rest of the pack! =)
Hm, maybe the minecarts could have holes in it (from the rust). But I don't really know.
yes, definitely going to do that. the double wall texture would make it work very well.
Vojife's idea is pretty good about the minecart. However, i was thinking maybe it could be made into a trolley of some sort. I dunno. Vojife's idea is good, though.
Also, you might have some more work to do with the Very Scary Update. Moar suggestions:
Pots: Possibly broken pots. Or crude-looking ones.
Heads: Creeper heads are going to look kinda funny when they come out.
Wither Skeletons: I'd like to see a bit of a robotic element mixed in with Wither Skeletons. Perhaps they could by experimental cyborgs gone wrong? And, if you made the head like a machine-type thingy, it would look great.
Item Frames: I think these would look good as display cases, maybe with broken glass, with (possibly ripped) velvet behind it, with a gold or bronze-like frame.
Witches: Could be chemical-spewing machines of some kind, or maybe some crazy maniac who's carrying chemical waste.
Bats: Maybe you could make bats more realistic?
Beacon: These would look good as one of two things:
1: A very bright light-emitting source (Explains the column of light in the sky)
2. Some kind of biology enhancing station. (Explains the buffs)
Alternatively, they could be a combination of both.
Wooden buttons: What about that doorbell thing i was telling you about?????????
I like your ideas. =)
2) The maniac thing is possible, but unfortunately, you can't change the model in the texturepack, so though very cool, you can't make this kind of a machine.
Sorry if I misunderstood you.
actually, it is possible to change the models a small amount. only subtracting... and non-textured parts of the model will be invisible, therefore... villagers without arms, short creepers, whatever. its possible.

thoughts on it?

the unpowered version is the same, but doesn't move.
Best track ever!
Ooo. :0 You're so cheeky!

exactly. but i kind of think things made for practicality can look pretty neat sometimes too. especially when they get rusty...
thanks, and uh... watch out glimmar XD
but seriously, i just noticed you released v8, which im definitely going to check out quite soon.
