I would just like to see better smooth texture packs. Many look just plain wrong, BUT, I'm using the Soartex texture pack right now and it's by far the best texture pack I've used so far.
The thing with minecraft is is that no matter what kind of texture you'll be slapping on the game, no matter what you're still going to be left with a square block. That said, the game lends it self more easily to cool modernist architecture ala Mies van der Rohe. I see alot of texture packs that are striving for gothic or some other romantic pastiche, that's not gonna fly all too well in the game though. I think I'm in the extreme minority here who enjoys solid 90 degree angles and glass boxes.
But making smooth packs (not referring to smooth defaults) is often a very good way to get started with making textures.
that's a great point, everybody has to start somewhere. however it bothers me when you see people who have barely put any effort into a texture pack with adfly links all over their thread.

I would agree here. BUT....if the person started the pack this way and made it evolve into more, then they'd get better and better. But most just go "her it iz guize!" and never look back into it. Simple doesn't mean it took 5 minutes or even 5 days to make. Time and effort can still make a cool simple pack.
However, I do not feel this needs a poll or even a sticky. What's next, a poll/sticky against dark themed packs or packs with "craft" in the title?

"This may hurt a little, but it's something you'll get used to...."
Ok, so Steelfeathers and I have conversed about the topic of the amount of clutter on the texturepack forums frequently. There are too many "I NEED HELLLLPP!!!!" threads and too many "Smooth/clean" packs. These things tend to bury the few good packs out there.
Maybe we should start a thread for beginners to show their work. We also need a texture pack tutorial directory that gets updated frequently. Those two things would cut out probably 2/3rds of the new topics in this thread.

This thread has almost summed up my emotions. The poster is obviously having a go at the simple packs that have no talent. Not like some of the 3 hour texture pack competitions or some of the other brilliantly simple but talented and beautiful looking packs that are out. But minimalism isn't the lack of everything, its the use of small things to make something infinitely more complex than it seems.
The thread of OMG guz whatz u thnk of my txtures!!!! need to stop, or people need to start being honest like doku and say, well... it sucks, completely, rethink your ideas, your concept your time managment, and get back to the community with something we haven't damn well seen before.
To the trolls that are posting adfly links on texture packs or single textures, ignore them, report them and ignore the thread.
The state of these forums is attrocious cause anyone who can use a filter in photoshop thinks that makes the eligible to do this sort of thing, I don't know what does make you eligible but it is NOT a photoshop filter and never will be (Same thing applies to graphic design... frik)
Another thing that does not make a pack is the ability to google. Congrats, you can resize a texture and it become blurry.
1. not only are google images not free rights to use for you they also look like ****.
2. they look like ****.
3 they don't till well.
4. THEY LOOK, LIKE ****.
to aaegon and the few others making quality 64x packs and above, well done to you guys for putting so much time and heart into textures.
I have nothing wrong with people growing and evolving and asking question on these forums but by god people go about it in the wrong way, they don't read the sticky thread at the top of the page that says READ BEFORE POSTING and they need to take critique.
oh and starting a poll will achieve nothing, doku's remix policy thread proves that the mods just dont give
(enough of)a damn about our section of the forums.
It's not so much that we dislike smooth and clean packs. It's more that there seems to be dozens of new one popping up every week. How many different ways can you represent a block of grey?
Lots of ways.

You see that green button with the plus? You dont have to click it, and I am not gonna force you to do it.
I'm tempted to paint the entire terrain.png one single shade of purple, call it "PurpleCraft" and release it as a texturepack, just as a satire to all the annoying uncreativeness that swallows this forum on a regular basis...

Oh and yes, this needs to be sticky and have a poll.
See my post above-- another one just appeared. :\

you download the 16x pack, and you place the .zip you downloaded into the texture packs folder for minecraft. then you select it in game.
