However, the sky color is also not present in the Beta 1.6 version, which these images were presumably taken in!
Beta has different sky color in different biomes, you know.
So I'm unsure what version these images are from or whether they have a mod or texture pack installed, but I still believe they are from a version in the Alpha (pre-1.2) or InfDev eras.
As for your paragraph in THIS post, I'm not sure exactly what point you're aiming to get across, but I know it has to do with the tree branch generation and how I said that the images should be updated. I still think that, after all these updates, the images should be updated, especially after possibly the biggest terrain generation change that has occurred in Minecraft (the "Adventure Update" terrain change).
I am interested in what you mean, though, so could you elaborate?
If there would be Beta 1.8 screenshots, or 1.0 screenshots, you will still notice old tree branches, wouldn't you?
If I remember correctly, English isn't your native language
Yep.
but that may be outdated as I think it was originally posted two years ago. Anyway, I'd just like to understand correctly. :-)
Well, I have explained in this post.
You noticed tree branches. Somebody else may notice some other change. So 2XMM2 basically needs to change those screenshots on every update, but that's not too important for a pack that is intended to look the same regardless of version.
Beta has different sky color in different biomes, you know.
Hmm, you're right. I forgot about that. Heh, no. Late Infdev has the same color as Alpha 1.1.2_01, and earlier versions have "flat" sky (http://media.tumblr....PGuD1qzb7ox.png), and also no 3D clouds.
Ah.
If there would be Beta 1.8 screenshots, or 1.0 screenshots, you will still notice old tree branches, wouldn't you?

Ah, I understand. I didn't mean that he should change the screenshots with every update, but I was just saying that, since the trees have upward branches, the images were pre-1.3 and thus not recent.
Anyway, I suppose I was wrong. Those images just looked shockingly similar to Alpha 1.1, which I guess just makes it even better of a pack. Maybe he just made tall grass invisible, but all-in-all you're just a better image inspector than I am. XD
Alright, you can't say for sure that the second image contains a desert because the only questionable patch of sand I see is at the top and contains no cacti or dead bushes (or any evidence) to support your claim that it is a desert. Those clues don't even exist elsewhere in the screenshot, or even in the first one.
I know the generation well enough to claim that it's desert.
Such sand areas just don't generate other than as biomes. Beaches (Beta ones, of course) are much lower, and sand can only generate in beaches and deserts.
I'm not noticing birch trees in the forest
There are were also Seasonal Forests that didn't have birches.
(tree generation varied from place to place even in Alpha versions, meaning that forests and seemingly plain areas were possible)
Agree, but very dense and very barren areas very almost non-existent, unlike Infdev, where they generated only like that.
which should exist if this was generated in Beta 1.6. Of course, maybe that was one of the forest types that generated without them - who knows, biomes were similar to each other in Beta versions.
Oops, already answered.
The switch from Alpha 1.1 to Alpha 1.2 permanently and effectively changed the way worlds generated; saying the generator still made the same or even mostly similar terrain is ridiculous.
Right. But the changes are not actually too large. If you will enable Alpha terrain shape (That's one line change actually) for Beta generator, would you really distinguish them? I don't think so.
Also notice that, at the time of this thread being posted, wild grass existed. Do you happen to say any in the screenshots?
Seasonal Forest and Shrubland. Both have no tall grass. Additionally, some versions of the pack really have invisible tall grass.
Let me just correct you in saying that this was posted in 1.7.3, just to prevent that claim to support any future point you might make. It was indeed posted during the 1.6 period, at exactly 1.6.6.
Yes, true. Anyway, generation in 1.6 and 1.7 is the same, except the clay that was broken in 1.6.6 (X=Z bug, you probably remember it...) and fixed in 1.7.

Yeah that, I can recreate it by going through some old videos from YouTube covering the (seecret) launch of the minecarts back then.
Sweet, I remember that being the most bizzare of the old things =p
It's a shame you can't give Minecarts the old style where the more items were in them, the higher the level of "stuff" in them went. That was pretty sweet.
Also, after checking patch notes, in Alpha 1.0.4, there was "Minecart skin reverted." Do you have any idea what that skin was?
EDIT: Haha! Just found something insane. A really old install of Minecraft, complete with that old texture! It looks like SMP's old pack, but I'm pretty sure that's the old minecart scribble. https://dl.dropboxus...tures/items.png

I was just going to post that texture, because in mail notification edits are not visible...
As for Alpha 1.0.4 skin, here is it:
Also Infdev with that Minecart texture is available in MCNostalgia. Can you tell me the modification date classes inside the jar have?
If it's June 18, 2010, that is not really insane.
What IS insane, are February 27–April 15 Infdev versions. I have these 2, but everything between them is especially insane.

Aaah, it's not that insane, what was was the fact I had it nestled in some 30 folders and I still managed to find it.
Sadly, it's a 27/06 build - the internal icon isn't even the old minecart one.
It's sad because I personally played every single indev and infdev build back then, it obviously never occured to me to keep the old versions. (I still have all of my old maps though =p)
Also, the patch note that I quoted said mineCART skin, implying it was changed for 1.0.3 and reverted for 1.0.4. That looks like the brown version of the old Dwarf skin that got associated with Simon.
Also, doing a quick search, the only interesting build I have is one with the classes dated 10/10/2009.

Minecart skin? This is Alpha 1.0.4 player skin. Looked again, I guess I read your message wrong, sorry. Sadly, I don't have 1.0.3. The closest ones are 1.0.4 and 18/06 Infdev.

I'm almost 100% sure that this was never the official skin. It's never not been steve, only change to him was his beard at one point - the Dwarf skin was made by a guy called Kyn if I remember correctly.

With old versions in the launcher it will become more expansive, but I didn't get to it yet.
Damn, that's pretty impressive. I was looking to build one now that it's possible to make profiles for some of the older ones and snapshots in the new launcher, but I have no idea where to start aside from the stuff available on assets. Is there any chance of a full set of diffs of those? =]

Most of them are from MCNostalgia. I just like them to be jars, as it's more convenient to dig in them like that.
Some of them, however, are the ones people sent me, like 02.27 and 04.15 Infdev. (And now also 06.27 Infdev, thanks :))
Some are googled, like 04.20 Infdev.
There is main class property in version jsons. The old main class is net.minecraft.client.Minecraft. It should work for Alpha and later, as for Infdev and Indev, it varies from version to version, and I don't know if it's possible to run Classic and Survival Test like that at all.
I personally launched Survival Test and 0.013a_03 like this: Started Classic on minecraft.net, closed it, replaced jar in tmp files, undid closed tab.
So, unless there will be problems with authentication, it should work well. However, I didn't try that, just guessing.

Haha, no problem!
I'll give MCN a dig then I guess, is there any chance of the diffs of the ones you've been sent/found? I like having them in jars too, but rules are rules and I'd rather not get banned =p

Is there anyway you could put the old Endermans when the first came out on the mid beta. When they had green eyes and black particles around them? Also great resourcepack i love the old damage sounds during pvp
I'll probably wind up picking and choosing tidbits out of this (newer, creaky doors suck in villages. arrgh, my ears!) but it is definitely bookmarked for future use. Good stuff.
Do you know if it's possible to just remove a sound entirely? I don't know if just deleting it from the resource pack, or replacing it with some silent file, really no idea how to make that work.
Basically I want lava to shut up because it lags me. >.<
