Why, thank you!
I've been making skins for video games for almost a decade now, and this is the first time I've gotten to make tetures in my own drawing style; So I'm very happy people seem to like it!
Hey u should add a customizer for the chest, armor and weapons and stuff oh and dat sword bro You are just Epic
Until at least the Terrain is finished, it would be entirely too time consuming to use the customizer website; as I'd have to re-uipload each individual block I change in addition to the 2-4 hours of "release prep" I have to do anyways. Plus, at the moment all I really have for Alts are some weapons and wood; so it's not a huge concern.
What does worry me is that because of the way the customizer website had each block as its own texture, there's a possibility that it'll mess up some of the animations of other fun stuff I'm adding to the pack. So I can't say with 100% certainty whether vDC will ever be Customizer-friendly.
To be fair though, from what i'm hearing about the specs needed to properly run the texturepack (Blame Minecraft, not me! If these textures were in Source, you're grandmother's wooden computer could handle them); If you've spent that much money on the computer, you should already know how to copy & paste from a PSD. Know what I mean?
Ugh. My computer lags to death when I try using any texture pack higher than X64. Any suggestions? This looks REALLY awesome. Is there a sound pack too?
From what I've tested myself, the best ways to improve FPS in minecraft are simply by using Optifine and MagicLauncher.
Optifine, if you're not familiar, not only allows HD textures like MCPatcher, but also improves FPS and adds many graphic options to mess with ingame.
You may have to toy around to find the one that works best for you though! I recommend any of the "B1" Optifines, as so far they're the only ones to allow full animations.
MagicLauncher is an easy to use Minecraft launch program that gives you the option to choose how much memory to dedicate to minecraft. In addition, it also makes it EXTREMELY simple to swap out Mods and Jars.
So, I'd recommend using it to try out different versions of Optifine!
No soundpack.
I'd love to see someone take a whack at it, but I'm not a sound artist.
My computer isn't good at all, I run the 128x version fine, it gets laggy when I go higher, to 256x / 512x, your best bet is a performance improving mod, like Optifine or FPS++
My CPU and GPU are both pretty shocking.
CPU = Intel celeron dual core 2.60ghz
GPU = integrated intel G45 family chipset (face-desk )
8 gigs of memory but anything past 3 doesn't really make a huge amount of difference with minecraft
anyway, my post was regarding your (OP) previous statement of releasing a second update with redstone in it? unless I misread or skipped over a post, any news on that? or does the 1.6 download now contain it
Yup. To clarify, I wanted to have Redstone and Crafting Tables done for 1.6 but couldn't. So I'm going to try and have another release out that includes them (most likely this upcoming weekend, so I can try and maybe oss some other textures together too)

Yeah, thanks, I'll try DLing FPS+++. I already have Optifine.
This is clearly one hell of a pack...
So original! (No copied textures the community is very well-known to copying and upgrading)
So creative!
Well crafted! (*textured)
Obviously beautiful!
It's an honor to know you VonDoom before you started this amazing masterpiece!
Awesome, I adore this pack, there's no doubt it's going to become one of the more well known packs but the only thing that puts me off using it all the time is the unfinished terrain
Goes a little something like..*looks around, see's the flaring sun, the dark detailed trees, the beautiful water, the evil looking pumpkins then an 16-bit cow next to a 16-bit crafting table* xD
I dig that.
Of course, I hope people realize that when it come to these types of releases, there's basically 2 ways to do it:
- Release it bit by bit, as I'm doing.
- Wait until it's done, but taunt people endlessly as it's being made.
As far as cows and such, I'll admit i'm kind of putting off most of the Mobs work because prior to having my new computer I was stuck ONLY working on mobs... however, I do have a really cool idea for Endermen that i want to play around with this weekened; So some mobs will be out before others.

Why thank you! I'm glad you like it!
Right back you, dude!
This is true, there is a third way which I've been seeing a lot lately, Someone will start a random thread about a WIP they haven't even started yet, just "Watch this space!" which drives me nuts, releasing bit by bit drives me nuts also, but in a good way.. You've made your way into my bookmarks bar, I check the thread every so often hoping to see an update xD, I'm sure it's not just my bookmarks bar either
Yeah, I'm not a fan of the "check in every day to see if I ever actually start this" method.
Thanks dude! I'm just glad that you, and everyone else, seem to enjoy vDC as much as you do!
I realize that everyone and their mother has already released at least one texturepack for Minecraft, and it's a bit of a flooded market; So it's just nice to have anyone's head turn towards my stuff. You know what I mean?
As for updates, I try and post any WIP sketches/screenshots whenever I get them, but generally releases will be on Sundays.
It gives me Friday (after work) and all of Saturday to work on textures I usually don't have much time for during the week; while also giving kids a bit of a weekend to play around with it.
Also, I don't know if you use Facebook or not; but I'm basically using it as vDC's homepage until I feel like making a webpage (which will end up turning into an art project for me just as big as this texturepack, so I'm avoiding it). So I post every there's a new release or such. It's a handy-enough way to keep up with vDC releases, if you're already using the site.
Thanks dude! Glad you like them, as you were probably one of the first to ask for them long ago lol.
Yeah, traffic has cut in almost half since the 1.5 Beta...
I'm not too worried though. The pack's still only about half-way to being "complete". When it's closer to that time, I'll worry about promotion and such.
Actually, I think it might be neat to have some sort of contest around then! Something simple, but fun.
I was thinking of making a cool vDC mini-poster printout and asking folks to who can take the best photo of it out and about in the real world. Or something like that, where it's not confined to the internet. No idea as to actual prizes yet, but I could always throw some art together or give the winners an advanced copy of the final vDC.
It's still a long ways away, but I do want to make the final release of vDC into a relatively big event; so if anyone has some cool ideas, please feel free to share!
C'mon bro, it's the weekend where is the update xD?
I'm trying, dude. Honestly, this weekend didn't turn into the "get a bunch of stuff done" days I was hoping for.
Up until today, my internet's been lasting about a half hour at a time, and I've just been getting the worse headaches; I think from staring into the computer screen for so long.
But yeah, I just woke up and the internet appears to be working fine, so I'm going to try and get done what I can today. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll have anything substantial done.
So, absolute worse case scenario, I'll try and have an update for like Tuesday!
im looking forward to when all in this pack will be finished! as in also the armor and everything, because that will be epic. and now its epic already!
oh and another suggestion for skins: beavis and butthead.
i know they dont have much to do with that whole comic universe theme, but im 100% sure that the skins youd make would be awesome
Huh. You know, I hadn't even though about B&B skins until now, and now that I do i'm kind of torn.
On the one hand, because of the character designs, they'd be much easier to make than any of my other HD skins.
On the other, I'm about 90% sure that taking two characters with essentially two giant, malformed, chicken nuggets for heads, and forcing them onto cube heads would make them look like ass and lose a bit of the characters. (The same problem I keep having with a bunch of characters I'd like to make skins for)
not sure i like the flowers (red/yellow.) red should be poppies (opium) yellow- daytura bells (trip)
vines look great.... all looks great with waving shaders and optifine aa/af
You guys might not have guessed this by now, and I know this may seem a little hard to believe; But in reality, I'm not so much of the "let's paint flowers!" type of artist.
(I honestly cannot even remember having ever drawn flowers, outside of for this pack)
So yeah, I don't think the flowers are bad per se, but they don't entirely fit and I'm not happy with them.
Great suggestions by the way! When I do end up remaking the flowers, I'll have to keep those specific ones in mind!
And yeah, I love how it all looks in the newer Optifines!
I'm just hoping he figures out how to get the proper animations working in a version with the AA, AF & mipmapping!
----
On another note, I recently discovered STRICKERROBOT and from what I read about them, it sounds like they make some very nice quality stickers.
How awesome would it be to have sheets of their 'Kiss Cut" stickers, with some vDC blocks and items in there?
Mind you, this is all something for consideration once the pack is further along. I can't really justify it right now, as I don't even have a proper website to add a store to.
Not to mention that having the stickers made will cost me around $150. Even at around $3-$4 a sheet, I very much doubt I'd be making my money back, at present.
If, knock on wood, this texturepack can gain some moderate level of "fame" someday, then I'd love to make some cool vDC stickers, T-Shirts and such! So long as I'm not putting myself in the poor-house to basically make stuff for myself and like 4 other folks.
...OOOO! I could maybe do one set of the stickers though, and work them into the release contest I was talking about before!

me too, i'm torn between having animations work or aa/af enabled so i have two versions made up to swap between the two as i feel.

if sphax can do it then i'm sure you can too (eventhou sphax has like 400000 downloads)... this pack is way way way better than sphax's and i'm sure once near completion you can knock him from his high and mighty perch! this pack should already be rated number one. (why dont they have this function, a place to see who's pack has most popularity?)
edit: had a look at that sticker shop got a few quote. check yr pm.

Eh, as far as Sphax's pack is concerned, I could go either way.
It's nice to know that my HD Mobs inspired such a huge success.
On the other side of the coin, on a good month with a big new release, I can make like $50 on ad.fly advertising; and vDC is still only in the upper-minor leagues as far as downloads go... In the words of John Waters, "a check would have been homage". Or recognition, in this case.
Anyways, I don't really think about it.
As for the stickers, I'm looking through them now and thinking it might be cool to do a batch of business card sized ones with 2 cut out, clear-vinyl stickers on them. The backing could be cobblestone with the vDC logo and facebook address.
As for the stickers themselves, I want one to be the diamond sword. The other I may out to a vote between some of the better items/terrain blocks.
Lemme know what you guys all think! I can only get these in quantities of 500 or more, so there's no point if no one's going to want them!
On another note, I'm sorry to say that I didn't get enough finished for a new release tonight. I managed to finish the crafting table and trap door, but the it's turning out to be much harder than expected to make the redstone wiring look good. I may have to make the main wiring bits into one big cable instead of a bunch of small wires. I don't think it will look bad, but I'll have to include a more default-ish redstone alt later on.
Anyways, I'm going to hold off a release until Tuesday, so that I can work on a few more of the smaller terrain bits I've been wanting to finish. Namely, the rest of the plants (and if at all possible, the bed and breaking animation)
Except maybe wheat. I still have no idea what to do with wheat yet.
Anyways, sorry again folks. I'll try and make it up to you come Tuesday!
Hey doom, is it possible you can make the alt textures into multiple images for each texture? I'm having trouble trying to get the alt textures to work for me. Or could you atleast replace the diamond sword with captain america's shield? Thanks!
Due to the new forum layout I am forced to leave a Link to my about me page so you can my mods/texture packs I support along with my Dragons, Just click on the image

if emperor doom gives me permission i can upload files with the alt textures as requested for people who cant/dont use photoshop.
so yes if i get permission i can send you an items.png with captain america shield as diamond sword..... however my recommendation for that paticular texture is battlecraft then you'd have sword in one hand shield in the other. it is a very good mod. (and yes you can sheild bash)

Go for it, dude. Feel free.
On another note, it's looking like Tuesday's update should actually be a pretty nice size, as far as new stuff goes.
Here's the new Trap Door and Crafting Table that have previously been shown; As well as the new "Lament Configuration" Gold Block!
Also, here's the new Iron Block:
And for those wanting a little more spice, an Iron Block alt:

multiquote!!!! cant say it any better
