I presume the 64x will be a higher res version of this pack or something different? One other thing I forgot in my earlier post is changing the jukebox or noteblock (or both) to traditional japanese musical instruments. A taiko drum would work, and I don't know how creative people could get doing that, but could be cool.
I presume the 64x will be a higher res version of this pack or something different?
Yep, 64x version of this! There will be some changes though because it allows a lot more detail. (4 times!)
I'll probably post everything in this thread though. I really can't be bothered having 3 texture pack threads to maintain >.>
Sorry to be posting so much on this thread, but I have two more things. Could you possibly label the alternate textures or put them in an alternate terrain.png? Its hard to tell which ones go where. Also, it would be pretty cool to go in and change some files so that when you mouse over the wools, it tells you the pattern on it like in your wool guide, so the wool that is a tatami mat RHS would say Tatami Mat RHS or Tatami Mat R (for space). What is the sandstone supposed to be currently? Also, you haven't fixed your grass side texture so it doesn't change with the biome colors. Looks sort of wierd. Have you or am I imagining things?

I actually have fixed sidegrass so I don't know what the problem would be! (unless you play on fast graphics, it only shows up on fancy )
Alternate textures can actually be used for anything you want them to be, there isn't any set texture for them to be!
And I thought about doing this but I think it would end up being a mod instead of something I can do in a texture pack. I'll give it a go anyway and include it in the OP so you can use it if you want though! :biggrin.gif:
Oh, and sandstone is supposed to be just a stone version of sand. It doesn't actually have any design really at the moment, just texture. I am working on it though! :biggrin.gif:

I'll be using my abandoned 64x tomb raider pack as a base, so don't be put off by the mayan dispenser and cobble xD
I'm sure you'll find a way to make it look like an oni face or something, instead. :smile.gif:
I hope so! It might start off being a bit weird as a WIP though :tongue.gif:
OK, I took a couple screens of my Japanese castle with your pack:
The interiors are a bit "off" because I use the dyed wools a little differently (I have custom tatami sections but for different colors than yours uses). As you said, when using this pack to make a world from scratch it would come out very nicely!
I personally LOVE the barred windows - very authentic to feudal Japanese architecture. If you do change that (I don't think you need to), please make sure to include it as an alternate texture!
Very much looking forward to what you can do in 64x!

That's basically the reason I made them white!
They look absolutely amazing in that castle! :biggrin.gif:
I do have all the others as alternates at the moment though. I personally feel white suits most of the buildings made though!

Love it to death (though you knew that already). Preferred the black bars for the glass personally though.
Here's a little shrine embedded in a mountain I just built:
-awesome snip-
That's a lovely shrine! :biggrin.gif:
I do agree that the white windows don't suit it as well, but they fit castles so well xD as shown by the castle just below your post!
If you want the old glass back though, they are available as alternates!
Looks amazing. I haven't installed any texture packs yet, but I'm definately going to install this in the near future. I personally am half japansese, so I find it interesting to see such a texture pack. Really nice work.
One thing though, the wolves seems to look a bit more chinese, with the swirly red and white pattern. Since there are no japanese wolves (other than an extinct one) what about at shiba-ken, a japanese dog? Wiki link here. Just a suggestion. :smile.gif:
Also, any plans for other mobs? Great work though, I'll probably sig it later.
Thanks!
I was actually planning to make the wolf a fox or a raccoon if possible! I know they are quite big in Japanese culture and I personally think a Fox would be awesome! :biggrin.gif:
I will look into the Shiba-ken as well though!
I don't actually have any plans for the mobs apart from the zombie which I plan to turn into a Jiang Shi. Not exactly Japanese, but it would still turn out quite well!
If you have any suggestions though, just throw them at me! :biggrin.gif:
hai,
first off, i really like your pack. brings the right atmosphere in the game i was looking for.
but there are some points i woud like to adress.
first thing is the missing of something red (like the red wool). i know it was alreasy considered, but could you think about chaning maybe pink (or brown(?)) into a deep, dark red maybe? i guess it would fit very well for a torii.
the other thing i would like to see is; i dont want to use massive amounts of white wool for my castle, i'm using stoneslabs to build the most things, and i want to keep this way - maybe you can change the design here a little bit (make it more plain/white) here's my castle, and it looks a little bit gray o: http://i.imgur.com/FaLKS.jpg
the last point is more a gag thing. maybe you can change the creeper skin into a tengu? well, creepers havnt long noses, but maybe it could do a good job.
regards
Thanks!
Ok, it may seem a bit weird, but yellow wool is actually red wooden planks. It looks really good in shrines and things like that! I know it's weird having it as a wool, let alone YELLOW wool, but I ran out of places to put it >.>
For the stone slabs, I'm still not entirely sure what I want to do with them just yet... I was actually thinking about the possibility of making them thatched roofs! So yea, not entirely sure if I could do that :|
I'll look into the tengu too. Suggestions for the mobs are always welcome! :smile.gif:
Fantastic castle though, really inspiring!

Aw, I can't hold it anymore. I'm gonna use your pack now. I was thinking of using my wip pack for a time while I'm working on it, but now I can't because this is soooo win! Gonna build some kind of castle/freaking huge building with this.
EDIT: I just have to ask; What tools/programs are you using to make such detailed/precise noise which doesn't look like random noise?
xD Yay!
I basically only use paint.net, believe it or not. It may be simple, but it's so easy to use it's ridiculous... I make noise in 2? ways. Either going over the block and adding shading myself which can take some time, then I might leave it like that or put a reaaaaaallly small amount of noise over the top of it (in paint.net, maybe only 10% noise, or 10, not sure how it's scaled :tongue.gif:) Either that, or I would apply a medium level of noise and go over it with an intermediate colour, one just in the middle of brightness for the whole block, and get rid of the really stand out dark/bright spots.
Oh, and I also use a really transparent pencil and go over parts of the block as well.
For more detailed things such as my sun in this pack, I use gimp because it has a better range of filters and things like a proper blur tool which is quite handy :smile.gif:
Hope that helped some, didn't really make sense, but still... Just ask me if you need any help with something >.>
That's a lovely shrine! :biggrin.gif:

Tell me of these 'alternates'. Are they in the 0.9 version of the pack, or do I need to DL an older version and move the glass from that into the 0.9 folder? Either way...tutorial? I have no idea how to do this.
For a start, you're going to need to use an image editing program that supports transparency. If you don't have photoshop then I would suggest paint.net (just google it, it's free).
Ok, take the zipped Nagareru 0.9 pack and unzip it. Inside you should see various folders and a couple of png images. Open the 'terrain.png' in the image editing program. On this png you should now see a whole bunch of textures. You can select which texture you want (use a box selector tool) and paste it over the thing you want to replace. If you want, you can also stuff around with the colours or even make your own textures!
Once you've finished all your editing, save it and exit. Select everything inside the 'Nagareru 0.9' folder and zip them. Pop them back in the texture pack folder for minecraft and you're good to go! :biggrin.gif:
I hope that helped. If not, just post back and I'll try to explain it more clearly xD
Have you done anything with gui.png yet? 'Cuz if not, could I post my fanmade gui.png here?
I haven't started it yet, but I would love to see what you've done! :biggrin.gif:

Awesome, worked like a charm. Huh, now I know how to make texture packs...pretty sweet! I'm going to have a slight fiddle with yours...I really love it, but would like to have cobble just as plain white plaster (would make castles far easier to build), and change the windows back to black bars. Thanks again, and look forward to more development on this!
No worries, glad I could help! :biggrin.gif:
I know what you mean as well, cobble is a lot easier to come by than cloth xD
I like the new stuff that has been added so far. I did prefer the black windows because it went better with my wooden house. I did notice the white windows definitely look better with stone so I going to start building a castle some place away from my base.
I saw that you were looking for some ideas for a dispenser.
I was think maybe you could use a hannya mask, or something similar. of course the mouth will be where it shoots. I just thought that it might look more menacing.
I get great color variety in the trees that are naturally growing, but all the trees that I plant grow up green. Do you know why that is and how I can fix the problem?
Sand is WAY better then a diamond sword. What's better than diamond? Nothing.
But sand is better than nothing, right? Diamond < Nothing < Sand. Thusly, sand is better than a diamond sword.
Looks great. I like the cherry blossom biomes, they look beautiful. (Curse went offline as I was editing the post) The only problem I have is the glass doesn't look that good. I understand what you were going for, but they just look like jail cell bars.
Ok. Nice update :biggrin.gif:. It was cool to come back from Pittsy and see it all the way up to 0.9. Great job :biggrin.gif:
I did come up with 2 ideas. :wink.gif:
1. Make a new fire that has a more oriental feel (how the hell one goes about doing that, I don't know). I do know that MCpatcher will implement a new fire, though.
2. Raccoons? I dunno if you put them in as alternates, but It'd be cool if you could make that happen. :biggrin.gif:
Other than those mate, (mate implemented for perfect Australian-ness?) This pack is my all time fav :biggrin.gif:

But that's what windows looked like in feudal Japan...
It would look better if they were closer together. This could be achieved more convincingly if the pack was slightly higher resolution. I edited the windows so the slats are closer together with only one open pixel in between, and I think they look better.
