My antivirus has warned of an attempted redirect from the down load page to a malicious web site and blocked it. However, I had no trouble downloading mcpatcher. I scanned it and it's safe.
So it would appear the problem is with the download page, not the file.
for those of you having problems downloading it due to security software, see if there's an option to temporarily disable protection. some of these antivirus programs are a bit overzealous.
edit: mcafee site adviser is flagging adfly. probably had a bad ad circulate and all the security companies decided to go nuts.
mcpatcher and the download locations it's stored on are virus free. they design these subscription based antiviruses for idiots these days. most of them are set to automatically block any unrecognized exe or jar file.
You gotta fix the download...norton dont allow the new download for some reason?

Any ideas? It's a fresh download of Minecraft, on a brand spanking new system. I've opened Minecraft to create all the files etc, and everything seems to be there.
I've had a problem....
I'm running 1.3.1 with the Patcher and TMI, all options are enabled apart from better grass....
Minecraft has crashed!

So, my issue seems to be different from everyone else's here: MC wont even let me select the texture pack that I use, it just reverts to the default. I can force it to load my pack by editing the options, but it doesn't get past the splash screen before it gives me this error:

I have had this problem before but I managed to fix it... somehow...
I require assistance!
I cannot seem to locate the 1.3 patcher. I just downloaded the patcher that is at the top of the thread. follwed all the steps and my pumpkins are lava, netherrack is water and fire is yelling at me to "google it"
any assistance?
Edit: I am using the John Smith V9.4 and/ or Steelfeathers enchanted 1.4
I'm really sorry but i'm not downloading anything my computer says is malicious. (common sense)
I loved your last patcher, it was amazing, and I can't wait until this problem is fixed, and I can use my texture pack (sphax pure BDcraft)
But until then I suppose I'll just have to live with the default or put up with weird grass and fire calling me a noob.
>>> <<< for your last one though.
Not even doing this to pimp my own question about a problem I encountered but, to all those people that are not smart enough to NOT use Norton or any other Symantec product: Download the .jar instead of the .exe. I'm on Windows and I never download the .exe(I did when I encountered my problem just to see if it would fix it, it did not.). Not only that but, stop using Norton! Are we living in 1996?

I really do hate to be THAT kind of a douche, but I manage the texture pack and mod assets for my group of nine people and I use the patcher as my all-in-one for all of it. I even use it to install Optifine but I leave out the conflicting stuff from Optifine because I prefer the patcher's way of doing things.
For the record: The problem occurs on a completely clean install of 1.3.1. Nothing but the options included in the patcher. Even when I deselect everything except the HD Textures I can't access my packs. Packs that I download, I can. The ones I zip myself, I can't. I already tried different compression programs and everything. I figured that with all the Java coding knowledge on this forum someone would know what the hell that error means.
It doesn't sound like you downloaded it from the forum page here. I'm on Win7 x64 and I use the .jar, not the .exe. Go to the front page here and get the 'All other platforms' .jar file and use it.
@sobek999: I know these sound like dumb questions, but starting with the easiest solution first seems best.
Are you zipping your pack in a folder?
Do you have something in the root folder named improperly?
Is one of your files sized improperly? (as in not divisible by 4)
I appreciate your response, Grugsy, and understand the need to ask them(I've worked tech support too). To answer your questions let me say that I've been doing this since Beta 1.3; everything is properly named and sized and I always select the PNGs and folders inside my work directory and make a completely new zip for every change I make, even if it's only pixel clean up on an icon in the items.png.
That's why this problem is so damn vexing... The TP works perfectly in 1.2.5(It's got the 1.3 additions) but once I move that same file into the 1.3.1 TP directory it doesn't work...
So it would appear the problem is with the download page, not the file.

I don't how I've been living so long without this.
edit: unless otherwise stated in the op
So here's a simple fix! Do it! The Minecraft gods will thank you! Just call this before creating the frames.
This will make everything look all pretty. And the JFileChooser will be 1,000,000 times better.
EDIT: This will only work when building against Java 6 or higher, though.

What kind of security are you using?

I meant the first page of this forum thread. Sorry about that.
