Kahr - Thanks for the help. I sorta got it working after playing around with it more, at least enough that I can be satisfied. I found out its not the HD Patcher that caused it to fail, its the LB Photo Realism texture pack that does - I can run the x64 version, but not the higher ones (though they work, with invisable water and lava with no patch. A way to get basic water and lava with the X128 graphics would be awesome though).
When I patch, it goes fine and only crashes when it tries to load LB Photo Realism X128 or higher, I havent tried with other HD packs yet. Here is the error log for when it crashes, sorry for the big post...

Search the OP for this error and try the workaround there. I've tried many different ways of fixing this bug and unfortunately haven't found anything that works reliably.
When I patch, it goes fine and only crashes when it tries to load LB Photo Realism X128 or higher, I havent tried with other HD packs yet. Here is the error log for when it crashes, sorry for the big post...

Looks like an out-of-memory problem. The ideal solution is to use 64-bit Java, but since you're running XP that's not an option. Does it work with Test Minecraft vs. launching the game normally? Try raising or lowering the Java heap size (see the OP for details) and see if that helps.
I tried Painterly and the endermen look fine. Not sure what's going on. In the patcher go to the Options tab and enable debug logging. Then start the game using Test Minecraft and look for something like this in the log window. These messages won't appear until the first spiders/endermen spawn, so you may have to walk around for a bit a night.

Tried and failed, the message DID appear but nothing changed. Here's a pic of me running the Test Minecraft option with the white endermens Here
I'm having trouble with water and lava - but, they both work fine when I'm viewing my world in MCedit. It's just the actual game that isn't seeing my custom water and lava (custom portal works fine).
I'm using (one of) the Painterly pack's water and lava textures, and my copy of MCpatcher is up to date. I'm not using any other mods except the ones that come with MCpatcher (HD textures/font and bettergrass).
Do you have water and lava set to "Custom Animated" in the patcher options? That looks for custom_*.png in the texture pack first, and if not found, uses the tiles in terrain.png instead.
I had it set to 'custom animated'. When I switched it to 'not animated', it makes the custom texture work - but (obviously) not animated, while the texture is supposed to be animated - which it says on the painterly site. I have also used that texture before with previous versions of MC and it was animated then.
I opened up the texture pack, and the relevant .png's are called custom_water_flowing and custom_water_still, and two others with 'lava' in place of 'water'.
Just to see what would happen, I patched with an old painterly pack with the same custom water, that did work before, and I had the same problem - water only works when I set it as 'not animated'.
I just tested this with 1.9 pre-release 2. It works!
Awesome! Thanks.
Just another reminder. Before you patch prerelease 2, make sure you delete .minecraft/bin/minecraft-1.9.jar. If you don't do this, the patcher will revert to Prerelease 1. Make sure it actually says Prerelease 2 on the title screen when you start the game.
The next version of the patcher will properly recognize prereleases as separate versions (it will create minecraft-1.9pre2.jar, etc). I hope to release it in the next few days once I finish up another new feature I've been working on.

Life is a Learning Curve.... Unfortunately, you're stuck on the bottom...amongst the bones of the stupid.
Sometimes, when I try and patch the game, MC Patcher pops up an error message about not being able to patch the .jar file because of a problem. I try to patch again, and 2 or 3 tries later, it's patched. Are you aware of this problem?

Is there any way to fix my 'This is an invalid win.32 application'. I looked it up, and came up with several reasons.
1.File is corrupt, bad, or missing.
2.File is not designed for your version of Windows.
3.File is a virus, worm, or other malware file.
4.Hardware incompatibility.
If you have any solutions, could you please PM me?
Note to self: Page 160.
EDIT:Turns out it was an updated .Zip file. If any of you PMed me, thanks for your help anyways.
I'm having a problem, I'm trying to delete the minecraft-1.9.jar like it says, but when I do while the mcpatcher is running I get this error message : "This action can't be completed because the file is open in Java(TM) Platform SE binary". When I close the mcpatcher I can delete it however, but then a new minecraft-1.9.jar is created as soon as I reopen it.
So I can't delete the file before using the patcher. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
I'm trying to install the painterly texture pack with the flowing water they have offered, specifically saying to use this in order to get it to work. They mention in a demo video that I need to make sure my texture settings are set to 16x16. I can't figure out how to change any of those settings.
This goes for any Texture pack that has custom water (I've tried installing some HD packs and same goes for those as well, plus I always get these weird outlines around some items like torches and flowers...). I look at the preview photo's and the in game water is always that default ugly ass blue and not what the pack advertised. What's going on, why can't I ever enjoy a packs water customization? :/

Looks like an out-of-memory problem. The ideal solution is to use 64-bit Java, but since you're running XP that's not an option. Does it work with Test Minecraft vs. launching the game normally? Try raising or lowering the Java heap size (see the OP for details) and see if that helps.
Which texture pack are you using? I haven't seen this with any of the ones I've tried.
Tried and failed, the message DID appear but nothing changed. Here's a pic of me running the Test Minecraft option with the white endermens Here
I'm using (one of) the Painterly pack's water and lava textures, and my copy of MCpatcher is up to date. I'm not using any other mods except the ones that come with MCpatcher (HD textures/font and bettergrass).
Here's some pics:
Awesome!
If I patch Minecraft, will it Unpatch itself when the 1.9 Update comes along? I'm Just Wondering....

So I can't delete the file before using the patcher. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
My problem: I used Mcpatcher with Painterly pack and I still get white endermens...
