One request for an alternate texture -- a light wood option for the wood planks, for better contrast with the dark raw logs when building primarily-wood structures. Sometimes planks and logs kind of blur together, since they're so similarly colored.
I love the GUI... But I simply can't live with the rocks, nor the cobblestone. It is just too easy to mistake for sand! If it was gray like the normal rock, this would be my number one texture pack - but until something is changed about the rockface, I'll have to go with the Quandary Pack.
But the way the GUI has 'buttons' which are turned different ways, is just ingenious. Love it.

Why don't you just edit those yourself? Make the stone greyscale or something in an image editing program like gimp or paint.
Hi Andre! (Sorry wasn't sure whether to call you Andre or Mr. Jolicoeur. :biggrin.gif:) I was wondering, even though I won't win the competition, is there a way of buying prints of your stuff anyway? I saw Structured Living and Starflood and fell in love with them - I have to have copies. :biggrin.gif:
On a more relevant note, I adore the texture pack - keep up the BRILLIANT work, this is the only pack I use nowadays (albeit with WildGrass).
Funny you should ask. The reason I set the deadline for the contest for this friday was because I wanted this week to get some prints for sale on my site. I had prints for sale on my site, but for some reason when I posted Jolicraft my site traffic went up tenfold and I sold out in a few days :tongue.gif:. But stay tuned for an announcement soon, it's at the top of my to-do list.
Thanks, that's brilliant; like I said I have to have them! :biggrin.gif: It's good to know I can buy them; at this rate, I'm never even going to get an entry in. :biggrin.gif:
wow, so many great entries! i like to come back every once and awhile to check out the competition. but i was pretty sure from the beginning that i didnt have a chance. its still fun to look at the other pictures, though! :3 alot of good ones!
Jolicoeur: Are you planning on redoing the sprites for the armor pieces to match the in-game armor? I think that is the only thing left for your pack to be feature complete (and perfect! :smile.gif: ).
okay, here we go...
contest is ending soon, i just realized it's almost march 11th (my birthday actually!), and i've been so busy, i haven't been able to worry about anything as well as minecraft! so i made myself sit down and finish this :smile.gif:
a little backstory...
i've been working on this one world for quite some time now. the world had gigantic pitfalls and deep holes underneath these monstorous cliffs! so i got lucky with the one i picked, and decided to smooth out as many walls as i could. i kind of became obsessed with smooth blocky-shaped buildings, and everything has gone down the o-c-d-hill, haha! either way you look at it, i still love what i'm doing, and i don't think i'll stop building on this one world. there was a gigantic building i created that reaches the top of the sky, and the inside has just the same amount of depth into the bottom (to the bedrock). however, it is not fully-finished, in my honest opinion, wasn't really worth taking a full screenshot of.
i started out building a little house inside of cliff, and it became an obsession to create interlocking-tunnels and little rooms to each and every other cliff, hill, chasm, and hole, and it's just gone on and on! i wanted to post more screenshots of the tunnels so you can get an idea of just how complex it is, but i understand rules are rules... only 3 screenshots :smile.gif:
also, i'm a minimalist - as much as i love using photoshop, i decided to decline doing anything creative and wanted to post direct screenshots - no stretched-out screens, no vignette, no nothing; but my world that i've been building. so without further ado...
the primary buildings; shown at night so you can see just how many candles i have glowing;
the building from above, and to the left, looking down into the grassy courtyard. includes; minecart ride/transport, gallery windows (right side), contemporary house (top/middle), a pool with underground tunneling, and the cathederal (left);
my latest build; the cathedral. consisting of 23x23 blocks (a stroke of luck it was a perfect square!), contains too many candles (ha!), and a floor i'll be lowering to add seating and other fun things;
so there you have it. maybe i'll post more sometime or post the world .zip file to let anyone explore it. either way, i'm having a total BLAST with this texture pack. it's got just the right amount of everything. the candles and whispy smoke-trails are so charming, and the grass is just perfect!
thanks for the view and the consideration. i hope everyone enjoys the contest!
I will be your guide today around this delightful, secluded property. As you can see, this house is set in an idyllic lake, the features of which have been carefully sculpted to perfection - two whole islands were demolished just to give you the ultimate feeling of solitude. You will also see a boat outside your house; this comes as a complementary gift with the house... not that you'll want to leave it! Now then, how about we take a look inside? As you go in, you will see on your right a button; this is a state of the art, two-chime doorbell installed lovingly by RubricaRedstone Co.. Now that we're inside, let's observe the house.
On your right, you will see part of the aforementioned doorbell mechanism; it has been carefully designed so that entering the house will activate the bell, but not exiting it. Further to your right, you will see a cosy little living area; you may not find a television or high-tech computer, but all you need to feel housey is a quaint little painting - we have provided one of your very own house. If you look down, take note also of the warm, cheery lime green carpet that has been installed in your entranceway and living room.
As you proceed into your house, you will see your main bedroom - though not as spacious as some modern flats in the city, sleeping in this high-up bunkbed will really make you feel as though you're the only person in the world. To the left of your bedding area, you will see a bookcase, which we have stocked for you with a variety of books about interior design, to help you get the best of your new house. Above this, you'll notice an ornate, handcrafted chest - a beautiful antique piece, this chest is guaranteed to store your belongings in style and safety.
On your right, you will also see a kitchen - custom-fitted for your pleasure, this includesa refridgerator-cum-pantry, an oven, a work surface, a crafting bench, and, just for fun, your very own cake dispenser. To the left of the kitchen, not visible in this photo, is a door to the bathroom, featuring a state-of-the-art one-tile bath - and for a small, small fee of three iron ingots, we can install a shower for you (express installation costs six ingots)!
So then, now that we've completed the tour of your new house, what do you think - isn't is cosy? I know that if I were you, I'd be happy to stay here for the rest of my life... well, you're not really going to want to leave, are you? Haha, no... a phone? No, there's no phone... um, I think we need to get going actually - if you're going to put a reserve bid down, you're going to have to hurry! ...Yes, you will bid! You will! No! Don't leave! What did I do wrong? I followed the sales guide to a tee - look, I'll throw in a cheesy smile just for you!
...fine, be that way.

I DID IT! With a day to spare, I finally found some time to write up my post. :biggrin.gif: Now I can finally get back to making my puzzle map. Now, some notes: first off, thanks for the best texture pack I've used thus far, Mr. Jolicoeur. :smile.gif:
Second, everything on this map was made by hand.
Third, I spent an hour ACTUALLY demolishing two island to get this perfect, so you'd better like it. :biggrin.gif:
Fourth, even if I don't win, which I won't, I give my best regards to whoever does win, and I hope you enjoy your prints as much as I would.
Fifth, here is the piece of artwork by our very own Mr. Jolicoeur that I used as inspiration:
Sixth, and finally, if anyone wants the map for this, feel free to ask and I'll make it public.
Good call, I'll add that to my to-do list.
Don't know if the first two are over photoshopping the second one in particular, just though it was an interesting idea.
Love the changes, especially the chickens that are now crows!
<3 crows :biggrin.gif:
Love these. And no, they're not over photoshopped, they're just right.
Yeah there's something wrong with these crows. They behave like chickens for some reason :tongue.gif:
But the way the GUI has 'buttons' which are turned different ways, is just ingenious. Love it.

Edit : I did it for you. :wink.gif:

You're using a default pack and you probably installed something wrong.
This is a pic that was posted a few posts up. His grass is normal.
