Little update today, to announce I've finished a mob for the next patch to my texture pack sometime in the hopefully very soon future!
ENDERMEN! :biggrin.gif:
Here's some pictures of the mob I took in game. Going to finish up my spider next, and then from there? Who knows. Maybe the Blaze? Zombie pigmen? I love doing the creepy stuff first.
This pack looks absolutely beautiful. Almost, painfully beautiful. A style which I've never seen before, yet seems so familiar and appealing. Could use some lighting up, however.
How did you manage to make it look realistic AND RPG-like (At least from my perspective)?
Oh, and the endermen look extremely unique. Scary, yet majestic.
Thank you, thank you, thank you BOTH for giving me something I can work with! So lightening up! As in brighter colors? More saturation? Any examples with some of the textures you two can give me? If it's with the default color lighting files of the game, I haven't even begun to mess with that yet, as I've no clue what I'm doing there yet.
Also, I could use some opinions. I might put up a poll on my thread even if that's allowed. I'm in a bit of a tight spot here deciding what to do with my mob skins. Probably going to ask for help over in the TAU thread as well I think. I want to scale down my mob skins so they fit the 32x resolutions better, but this will mean some loss of details inevitably. I will most likely go back and touch up the existing skins, if not overhaul, or outright redo them. Right now, they're on par with a 64x pack's scale I think, or near there.
It's proving to be a bit much work for me anyway, trying to keep that much detail up for this pack at that scale for the mob skins, and still wanting to feel inspired to do things. Doing the enderman mob skin lately at just the 32x scale felt good and refreshing for once.
However, one of my friends feels I'd be doing something bad, if not one of the worst ideas for my pack, ruining "the best part" of my pack by doing this. They feel it would benefit more from the better look of the higher resolution with my art style, scaling be damned and all, and too much is lost if I halve it down to 32x. I tried to argue my points about going back and retouching, but I'm not sure they held much worth there. It's great they believe in my ability that much, but at the same time, at that resolution I've sat around for days staring at the mob templates, just feeling dumb and apathetic about the whole process when it's not as pixellated.. which is weird, since I didn't start out doing much low res art in the first place like this. It's been argued also that I could do the higher res skins, and then do dumbed down copies to please everyone... but what about myself? I don't think I'd be up to doing that, citing personal reasons here, but let's just chalk it up to I only have so much motivation and energy to keep me going in a day.
I'm not saying one's better than the other at any resolution, just that I think.... both have their own merits. The 32x scaled downs would be easier on me overall, but allow me to produce more content faster, and yet in a strange way I think in a way that wouldn't make me feel like quality would be suffering, where if I tried to do higher res, I start losing some of my edge taking forever matching up edges of textures perfectly at such a resolution and getting inscrutable detail right, it drains me of the overall process and general picture, making it suffer unless I'm at an insane creative high. Even then, those only last for so long.
I guess I ask, should I listen to myself where I think I'd do better at just doing 32x skins for now? Or listen to the nudging of my friend saying I should do the high res skins, and then dumb them down as alternatives?
Wait wait wait... this has 5 pages of comments. FIVE. Why does such a masterpiece have such little attention?
Heh. *Shrug* I dunno. I don't advertise myself out enough? Honestly, if I weren't doing this mostly for myself, I probably would've just given up a long time ago XP Thanks for the compliment ^^
Heyooo! (Steve?), updated my texture pack once more! Mostly mobs, but some other nice things have been done as well! Give it a look, I'm gonna work on getting new screenshots to add to the first post. Please leave some comments!
(Endermen, spiders, etc have been added to the completed mobs list!)
Did quite a few things in the past couple days, so I updated again, calling it 5.1 since it's not a HUGE update, but it's enough to be an update so soon after one recently.
Anyway! GL Art pack, ver 5.1 is now ready for download! Give it a try, please, *please*, leave me some feedback here or something XD I see you all downloading, but not saying anything. :tongue.gif: Speak! Speaaaak!
Okay, no more coffee. Quick note on what's in here (just a few of the things): New custom fire animation, tweaked water and lava animation, new various textures and texture tweaks. Go looksie!
I skinned piggies tonight! And with that, I'm releasing another version of my texture pack! Pig skins, better 2d armors, various items.png stuffs and what nots! Give it a download, lemme know whatcha think people. Comments, critiques, feedbacks welcomed! Wanted!
Sorry for the bump, but just a reminder that this texture pack will also work with the latest snapshot, as of 12w06a! Just use the latest MC Patcher, this pack will work even though it says it's 12w05b.
Who likes steak and burgers? I've updated the pack again, hopefully the last "Quick small" update for a while. I wanna focus on another huge chunk update, which will hopefully push my texture pack to being nearly complete I pray. As always, I appreciate every download, review, and comment! So please download and leave comments!
Updated again! Did lotsa various things for this one, including a new main menu background, custom font, gui update, title logo change, and of course textures and more textures! Download, try out, and comment!
Sorry guys, but did another quick fix. All i did was refine and make cleaner the default.png font file so it works better with the pack. Your choice if you want to redownload or not!
Heya, updated my pack again with a lot of things, including skins for the sheep, squid, and zombie pigmen! Also put a link to a video review by FreestyleOMG, and will be adding links to other video reviews. Download, try it out, and lemme know whatcha think of my pack!
Hey guys, updated the texture pack again. Not too much new with this one, but dirt block and sand block's been updated, End block's updated, and Chests have been updated, as well as the pack has the new blocks added with their default textures for now. Hit a rough patch in real life, reason for the lack of massive update I suppose. Hopefully the next one will be a little better.
This texture is absolutely amazing, everything are so good!
One thing I want to ask you, could you make holes in the helmet so you could actually see your characters face?
And the zombies are...too common zombie looking, it was scary but nothing unique.
It's weird because everything in this pack are unique and cool and Boom! a zombie thats...plain
the stone is beautiful and also the cobblestone is great, TnT is my favorite part.

I think you should try 32x
Once the inspiration comes to you, grab it!
I think your skilled enough to create better skin
high res isn't everything
I mean the most important thing is the feeling you give to this texture
Thank you for your comments, Cynlet, I really appreciate them! As of a few updates ago, I decided to stick with 32x for the mobs, haven't looked back since. I am considering doing a redo of the zombie textures for the zombie mob, along with some other old textures as well. As for the helmet, do you mean the diamond helmet 2D Texture? Since I'm going to be basing the 3d textures off of those eventually. The iron one is pretty open I think.
As for the zombie, maybe if I did something more drastic with the wounds and style. Any suggestions? I'm open to it. I"m thinking a more open looking jaw with exposed mouth parts somehow, like gaping jaw wounds, stretched out exposed muscle, more obvious decomposing flesh... hmm. Maybe a few with giant worms in their bellies or heads. I'll have to sketch up some concepts!
Certainly a great Texture Pack. :smile.gif:

perhaps i will be able to post my creation too :wink.gif:
Now dang it, I told you to take off your face at the door. It tracks mud, like your shoes!
