Here is my tutorial showing how to change the java heap size for anyone having the game crash while loading. I was crashing while trying to use the 256x256 pack. I use windows and as such this tutorial shows how to make the change in that environment. I don't have a mac, never will, and don't have any linux boxes with java installed to mess with this so you guys are on your own. Of course if you use linux you can probably figure it out yourself .

Thank you, You type slow But I managed to watch 3 minutes of Your slow typing :sad.gif:
None the less, It worked. Cannot read @ 480p or lower. Why'd you screen get brighter when you opened minecraft?

I went slow because I wanted to make sure I made everything clear for people who comprehend slow. I increased the brightness because in the video you couldn't see anything once I opened minecraft because it was so dark.
EDIT: As far as not reading at lower resolutions, not much I can do about that without a bunch of extra work making the video. You can follow the basic actions if you fullscreen it and you'll know where to click and type.
Hello Scuttles, any chance you can take a quick look at this for me? When i run test after using the patcher with this texture pack it runs fine. But when i use the launcher after im finished with the patcher it logs me in then it just closes the launcher down.
Here is my error log, any ideas?
-error-
Are you running the default launcher or did you download the new launcher on the MC downloads page? There have been many reports of this happening after the 1.3 update. I'm not quite sure what is causing it at the moment. =/
Also which method of installation did you do? Patcher, manual, or through texture pack folder?
I was also having this same issue. For me it was not the hardware, minecraft, or the texture pack; it was 32 bit Java on 64 bit windows all the way.
2. INSTALL 64 BIT JAVA! YAY!
Install the appropriate JRE for your operating system (this took me WAY too long to find - it is not listed nicely on their website, only the x86 / 32bit version). I used the windows x64 version since I have 64 bit windows 7.
Downloads here: http://download.java.net/jdk6/
You should be good to go immediately!

p.s. Your texture pack is way too good for your own good. I was was pretty much unable to play minecraft until I fixed this; the default textures just hurt my eyes now. XD

I installed it w/o having any issues and noticed a change on my server immediately...running hd textures on the same comp as hosting a server was killing me... no issues now tho...not sure if it was the game update, switching over to bukkit or the java fix...lol

Great pack, i use it since a week or so but the 256px-version is to much for my pc. After a short while the PC explodes and Minecraft switches all lights out = BLACK.
With the 128px-Version it behaves more stable but if my Memory is full it just gets dark too. Maybe i should go back to a 64px-Version of yours.
Please Change the ORANGE-WOOL, cause i really don't like it. It doesn't look like Orange for me just like brown, yellow and dirt mixed up together to a dusty red. i'll give it a try to change your terrain.png and resize it to 64px. Maybe this sorts out all my problems :smile.gif:
Great work so far.
PS: Another thing, i saw a cake that had an invisible texture between top and side. Maybe that was a memoryleak of mine, but i don't know it exactly.
Your pack is amazing, I made this account just to say that. Thank you very much!!!! I would donate honestly but am currently unemployed :< maybe next time I hop on here!
I'm going to remake the java heap size tutorial tonight. I had an idiots epiphany today. I'll just temporarily decrease my resolution while recording and that should make it easier for everyone to see what I'm doing and typing without having to do any extra editing work to zoom in on anything.
just like to point out that on windows 7 you cant input the code like that to enhance amount of ram used, you have to download the jar version of the game then make up a bat file! something else i noticed is that the jar version of the game seems to be alot slower than the actual .EXE version.
I am using windows 7 and made those changes. Worked great...
I looked up on the internet and im not the only one with the problem, For some reason when you input the code to increase memory hit Enter then OK the line just dissapears and does not take effect within game. Just though i would make you aware of the problem. After getting it to work with the jar version last night i realized that increasing the heap size doesnt really make any difference to me. I gave it 1500mb and it still only used anywhere from 100mb/290mb out of that and doesnt give me any sort of performance boost at all. so back to .exe
Well the first thing is that you don't need to hit enter after entering the parameters, just click OK. Secondly, If java is only using 290MB of memory and then crashing this isn't going to fix your problem. You have a different issue.
Also, can you tell me what is listed for your Java Version in the product column when viewing "Control Panel > Java > Java Tab > View". For example mine is "1.6.0_24". Please include anything after the last number such as "-rc" or "-beta"
It doesnt work either way round pressing enter then ok or just ok lol. P.s i have no problems with minecraft. Its the version down from yours 1.6.0_23 the 64 bit version. hope this helps you as well!
Well, that eliminates special releases. There used to be an issue with releases with things like "-rc" and "-beta" in the version name that would cause the runtime parameters to not save.
There is a newer version of Java for you as _24 is the latest release. I would suggest uninstalling _23 and installing the newest version. It may not fix that particular issue, but it is a start.
Nope, no mods whatsoever. It's Vanilla aside from the Textures.
I did a bit of research. It could be a setting you have on your graphics card. Do you have anisotropic filtering or some other texture modifying setting turned on? This could have worked with the previous version of Minecraft, but started to react when the new update came.

No rush to donate, lol
If things go very well I might be able to purchase a site for everyone to download from instead of mediafire

..oh.. well this is interesting. Maybe there's hope for me to play your texture yet.
what happens at the 32bit version when it's capped? I get the black screen at 1GB of ram used from javaw.exe. The game plays fine up to that point.
When the memory gets capped when playing on a 32-bit Java many things could occur such as dramatic slowdowns, black screens, freezing, or the entire thing crashing. I know more recent computers automatically can run 64-bit things such as Java regardless of the OS. If it's more than like 3-4 years, I'd try it but no promises. =\

lol I meant what program do you use to get such nice screenshots
Oh, lol. I just press F1 to go into no-hud mode and then F2 to take the screnshot. I think it's just because I have an extremely high resolution screen. 1920x1080.

How I fixed it:
Installed the 64 bit JRE!
1. REMOVE YOUR OLD JAVA INSTALL. DO IT.
Instructions: http://www.java.com/en/download/uninstall.jsp
2. INSTALL 64 BIT JAVA! YAY!
