Oh, really? I suppose I must be hallucinating when Minecraft with MCPatcher (2.4.3_01) and Forge (4.2.5.301) installed works fine for me. I must also have been imagining it when I got tons of visual artifacts when trying out Optifine, because you say it is better and thus it is so.
commissar: How is it a pain in the ass, exactly? Adjusting the heap size, assuming that's what you mean by RAM allocation, is as simple as typing a new number in on the Options tab, and I fail to see how changing mod configurations could be made any easier.
Uh huh. After reading your post, I updated to 4.2.5.303 and, lo and behold, it still works fine for me. Did you make sure to have Forge at the top of the mod list?
EDIT: I'm afraid I have to correct that bit of smarm you added. That Minecraft does not crash for me when using MCPatcher and Forge is not my opinion, it is a demonstrable fact. Anyone should be able to use the same versions of both and the same settings in MCPatcher and have the same result.
How to increase your fps in this great TP with no loss of quality (for old machine)
1. open Misa4xx.zip file. (using 7-zip or something)
2. open terrain folder.
3. open sky0 folder.
4. delete two files. ("misadisc.png" and "sun.properties")
From my understanding, Optifine is not updated for the snapshot releases of Minecraft, at the moment. So if you're using Optifine and playing a snapshot, then that's the problem, isn't it? It has nothing to do with this texture pack or any other texture pack. It has to do with you using an outdated version of a program combined with an unfinished version of a game. The texture pack is a non-factor.
Use any combination of the following to figure out how to play the game comfortable until 1.4 is released in a couple of weeks;
-Don't use Optifine.
-Don't play the snapshots.
-Don't use texture packs that are updated for the snapshots.
The problem isn't that they're using Optifine with a snapshot, it's that Optifine doesn't have the compatibility fixes MCPatcher has, which allow texture packs updated for the snapshots to still work properly with 1.3.2. The obvious solution is to keep using 4.20 if you need to use Optifine, but some people just have to have the latest and greatest, compatibility be damned. On that note, if your computer is so old and terrible that you need Optifine to have playable framerates, you probably shouldn't be trying to use HD texture packs anyway.
Why is this argument still even going on? This thread is a discussion thread for this particular texture pack, not an Optifine vs. MCPatcher debate. If you can't stick to the topic, please take this to a new thread or PM's.
I was slandered and addressed the slander so the rest of the the thread could get back to regular discussion regarding the pack--not to keep a pointless back-and-forth going. The fact of the matter is any high resolution texture pack or mods you use are an unsupported modification of the game files that goes beyond the original design of the game. You're figuratively 'voiding the warranty' with each modification you make to the game. It is you, the user who assumes responsibility for the choices made of modifications used. If your computer cannot handle the pack, either don't use it, or use it and accept that it will either perform slowly or be an inaccurate representation of it's originally-intended design.
It is not the responsibility of the developers of said modifications to ensure that their mods are all perfectly compatible with every single other mod out there as many of them are trying to modify some of the same things. Also given the lack of a proper modification development platform it's absurdly unreasonable to expect that every single modification to the game will work perfectly in combination with each other. The fact that some mods or texture packs rely on other mods is currently unavoidable, but in the end it is the limitations of the user's hardware and the user's decision as to what mods they're willing to sacrifice to make use of others.
As a user myself, if I were not on a computer that was capable of handling this texture pack the way it was intended, I simply would not be using it. I'd find or make another texture pack. As much as I enjoy my own texture pack, I didn't make it to gain recognition or to get as many Minecraft players on the Internet to use my pack as is possible. I am simply providing one of many options to the community by sharing my work which I found to make the game a much more enjoyable experience for myself. I could've just as easily kept it to myself and would've completely avoided being blamed for not catering to every single person's individual desires.
Understanding all of this, can we please get back to the actual topic of this thread and stop going off on these tangents and blaming authors who are attempting to contribute to the experience of a game?
I love this pack, especially the lighting, although I really cannot get the full effect on this machine, I have used it on a gaming comp before, and had zero issues w/ optifine compatibility, so it might just be my computer, or 1.3 optifine causing it. either way, it is almost the perfect pack, and while I do wish it had higher res versions, 64x is probably the best res as far as compatibility goes, and I have noticed that graininess problem with 128 and 256x packs.
in 1.2.5, back when everything was relatively stable, I switched to this from a 256x pack, and I find that this one looks far better, and actually reduces eye strain, probably due to the softer lighting (in my opinion, one of the best features of the pack).
ps: sorry misa, didn't intend to start that, and your right, there is simply no way to guarantee that every pack is compatible with every mod.
random textures for coal and iron would be nice (the iron ore animation is hardly noticeable anyway) but it would be a lot of work for Misa to do the others since they have animations.
This would mean CTM files for each block, and then several animation files for each and every block design in each CTM file.
This is a lot of work, a lot of files, and would increase the filesize by a lot.
Wow, never realised, that apart from diamonds and redstone, the other ores also have animation. Just checked the folder, and indeed, the textures are there (can't see an obvious .properties file though). I'm going to have to study the ores closely.
I think though that unanimated random faces would be more effective, but that's just personal opinion.

I agree. Redstone, gold, diamonds, emeralds and lapis are in small enough bunches where it's not as noticeably repetitive anyways.
I follow your instructions...
Patched the Texturepack looking good xD
But,
I freezes me game and it takes forever to load a world or to play a server
N yes my Java heap size is 256+
I don't know whats going on D:
There's really not too much to do with it... It's a pretty bland model with not much required variety to the texturing. Anvils in reality are pretty much all one simplistic texture all over: a dark casted iron texture.

but then this is the internet, so despite what I or anyone else says, you will still belive that your opinion is the ultimate truth.

Am I wrong here?

Just a thought, how about different random texture faces for the ores? That would make large veins of iron and coal look less repeatative.
