I think I've been downloading your pack for too long without thanking you for keeping this pack brilliant updated, sir. So here it goes, thank you for taking time from your family and own personal free time to keep this amazing texture pack going. I recall you keeping us posted even when you took time off! So for your dedication to creating top quality texture packs, I thank you.
Ok, so I think I am now completely addicted to Minecraft. I have this and The Witcher 2 (which is also a really fantastic game btw), and I keep opting to expand my little empire in Minecraft, over playing an awesome RPG LOL.
So last night I finally made some real progress with my expanding. I built little way stations all around my main house, and started exploring all over the place. Eventually I came across a very unique looking mountain (like a freaking TALL mountain), built a little house in the cliff face, climbed to the top, built a watchtower w/torches so I can find my way back home in case I'm out after dark (not if I can avoid it), and began exploring the cave vein right next door... Oh... my... god...
Holy Crap! I can't believe how epic the next 5 hours were. I slowly but surely made my way deeper and deeper into the natural cavern, occasionally I would hit a dead end, but after picking away a few feet in any direction, I would open up an even deeper cave system, running across various underground rivers, and waterfalls. I can't explain how terrifying it was to fall into a pitch black cave because I was standing too close to the edge. Then scrambling to toss enough torches around to keep the monsters from spawning. What a rush.
Eventually I got so far in that it took me an entire day cycle to get back to the surface. So I decided it would be a good idea to build a base in the mine. Why I didn't think of this sooner still baffles me. But man did that help! Eventually I made it to a large open cavern system with lava flows. And I can't tell you how excited I was when i found some gold, then redstone, and finally one vein of diamonds! That's where I went to bed.
The thing I loved most about the exploration was that the monsters mobs would always spawn where I wasn't expecting them to, and they kept me on my toes at all times. So now I'm at work, and all I can think about is clearing out the monsters in the rest of "my" cave, and raping the natural resources for my own selfish desires LOL.
Just before I went to bed, I browsed through the various gameplay mods that are out, and oh man... I'm gonna be playing Minecraft for a looooong time from now LOL!
I'm glad you're enjoying Minecraft as much as I'm enjoying your music!
Listened to all the tracks yesterday - very immersive. Creates a nice atmosphere.
Hearing the strains of Bach's Tocatta while exploring a vast cavern is at once majestic and terrifying.

Thanks! It's funny, because I am so sick of my own music (been working on those tracks for about 5 years), that I haven't bothered playing it in the background yet. Maybe I will do that tonight.
I'll also have to rework some of my older ambient tracks. Especially the one based on Journey to the Center of the Earth, and post them here for all of you guys. =)
Many thanks to you, Discomental. It's nice to get compliments and we all need encouragement. Having worked on this pack since releasing it in Oct. 2010 I need the motivation from time to time. Anyway, motivation or not, I need sleep now more than anything, but thanks for going to the trouble of posting. It's very much appreciated!
Hello, I love using this texture pack when i play, but I've been having some trouble with another mod I'm using, the mo' creature mod. the shark teeth and egg's do not appear in game.
What sort of "Awesome" are you looking for? A friend of mine found a rather good seed a while back, and it's now the basis for our SMP server. The seed is -9028489474908844496, and you can find pics here.
Just looked at the pics and that is one very awesome world, ksheep!
According to Jeb's twitter, map item is located next to the book, and the trapdoor block is to the right of the ladder texture.
I'm currently trying to download the update as I type. Didn't think the trapdoor would be a separate texture, but glad it is. Wish Notch would separate out the fence too. Notch always seems to update at UK school holiday time, when my time becomes more centered on the family...very frustrating really! I will do my best to get something up and running, but if the map seems to be a big job I may have to do a temporary update to keep things rolling.

Thanks to you for that Tigii. I appreciate your comment very much. My wife thinks I'm obsessed, but she's a good mate and very patient and I don't think I've got to the stage of neglecting the kids yet! Well I can't this next week because school hols/vacation means I'll be busy entertaining and ferrying kids everywhere. No rest for the wicked as they say!

Hahaha! Everyone here will fully understand how Minecraft totally captivates. I think if you're a creative person, which i know you are, you can't help but be taken in by the possibilities that exist in this phenomenon.
I got Witcher2 as well! Fantastic game indeed, but I'm trying to play the first Witcher again, because I never completed it, and can't stand the idea of playing the sequel first. Except the login site for Witcher 1 is down and no-one can re-register their game to be able to patch it up to the enhanced version that makes it playable!! Still I can wait. Well I have to now with my pack needing updating first.
Really glad your having fun with Minecraft.
Just to reiterate folks, I am currently working on updating the pack for Minecraft 1.6_2 dependent on kahr updating MC Patcher too, but please bear in mind I don't want to rush it (I like to play around with the new things first to see whats possible) and I will also be busy with the family during the school vacation, starting this Friday. If it looks like things will take longer than expected, I may issue a temporary fix so that any new things aren't invisible.
Hey Glimmar,
I don't think I've posted here yet so now I shall.
Thanks you :biggrin.gif: Your texture pack is utterly amazing, and I thank you not just on behalf of myself (though that's a big part) but on behalf of the entire Brass Goggles Minecraft Server. We're mostly using your texture pack to build up what is aimed at a steampunk city and have been for a while, and your pack looks brilliant there!
If you want to check it out we have a site at http://minecraft.dorksanddorkettes.com
Once again, you're great, the texture pack is great, your dedication to it is great... generally GREAT :biggrin.gif:
~Karenthian~
2- 1.6 deletes all achivements even if you force up date
3- Minecraft booster no longer works
We all kinda knew that already, but welcome to the forum nonetheless!
I've reverted back to the normal appearance of Minecraft for now, but just so you know, the map item of course looks invisible, but shows when equipped. It may not, however, be rendering the map right. I was playing in our house's SMP server at the time, and SMP is laggy as hell after the update, so it may have been that.
I'm off to give some love to my attention starved SSP worlds until the next server update fixes the godawful seven seconds of lag.
EDIT
Which is fixed, unfixed, and fixed again! "totally professional" says Notch.
I'm off to build a new mansion in our new world. I'll post pics up when it's done.
Just wanted to say that I have, still am, and most likely will always love this texture pack. Its not only pleasing to the steampunk fanatic in me, but it is also very very well crafted and is absolutely beautiful. I built an airship on my server & asked everyone to view it with this pack, I dont think anyone has changed back, lol. Just wanted to say fantastic job & please continue to make this pack the absolute best. Here are some diamonds:
Allow me to correct my statement in that case:
"Welcome back to the forums"
On topic though, I wonder whether the new map is going to become a steampunkified metal contraption, an old treasure map, or even some kind of old dusty book with brass bindings perhaps?
I hope that provides some inspiration, I know there will be a waiting time for the next version of the pack, so i may modify my version to include the basic Minecraft versions of the new items, just so I can see them using the pack as it is now.

Ooo, I like the 'Brass Goggles' name, Karenthian! Many thanks for the encouragement too!
Unfortunately Darkened skies wont be released for a least a few weeks. So much to do, So little time XDHowever your welcome to look around Glimmar. Just PM me or Pipehead and we will gladly show you around so you can see we are putting the pack to good use :tongue.gif: V
Hi sephirothkane. Judging by what Pipehead has given a sneak peak of, it all sounds pretty special. I've got to get this update out the door first, but I look forward to seeing what you've all been up to. Thanks mate.

Thanks again, folks for the encouragement and support, your feedback fuels my enthusiasm, and I'm sorry I'm not usually as fast as others to upadte, but I've nearly finished the terrain.png...just got to decide upon something suitably steampunk for the hatch.
I've also been working on finishing everything except the armor on the items sheet, but obviously got to add the map icon now. Nearly finished up on my first very high def leather armor and I'm liking the look of it so far overlaid on my new HD character. it was a good, if not demanding, learning process for doing the rest of the armor.
The new map graphic will probably need more time to make it something special for this theme, so I might release an update with Notch's map, then I don't feel under pressure to rush it.
I believe kahr has updated the MC Patcher! Big thanks to kahr for making it all possible for us to enjoy HD packs.
[edit] Korstmahler, Thanks for the suggestions re the new map. As I say, I need to spend more time on the map, but I'm grateful for your brainstorming. It's at times like this I just look through endless pics and ruminate on all your ideas, until something forms in my old noggin of a brain! :biggrin.gif:
When things have settled down a bit, if anyone would like to advertise their steampunk server here I could start to keep a list in the OP. Occasionally I get PM'd about the existence of any steampunk specific servers and it would be nice if these folk could find a home, assuming you have the space! :smile.gif:
He's working on a solution for mods, as far as I know, and there's nothing he can really do for texture packs.
To clarify, the main reason texture packs have to update is that ALL the block textures and ALL the item textures are in terrain.png and items.png respectively. So any time he changes those two files, us pack makers have to update them as well since the copies we have completely overwrite the default ones when they are loaded. (Fixing that would be more trouble than it's worth.)
Fortunately _Jeb has been tweeting what textures are being added ahead of time so we can get a head start on updating. Unfortunately he missed some from this last update so even those of us who tried to be ready weren't. (I don't know if that's _Jeb's fault or if Notch added some stuff at the last minute or without mentioning to to _Jeb.)

Welcome back, mate. It's good to see you're still alive and kicking! :smile.gif:
I'm having to give in tonight. Too many late nights this week and finding it frustrating trying to get my bland grass to work nicely with the new tall grass.
Is anyone else having problems trying to play the game offline? I can logon and play with my password, etc. so my game is still legit since buying it in the summer of 2010, but if I try to play it offline, so that I can see my new hi-res character, I'm getting a warning at the top that my game is now an illegal copy!! Which is obviously not the case I hasten to add, or I wouldn't be able to update and play perfectly well when logged on. I'm just wondering if MC Patcher is making it seem like the game is different somehow, or Notch has changed something about the copyprotection that is screwing up offline play.
Anyway, that and all the kids running haywire at the prospect of school hols has made me give up for tonight. Sorry folks!
PS. Playing around with the new hatch I've made has opened up alsorts of ways of using it. makes great steps fixed to a wall or floating walkway. Window frames...not tested yet to see if it can be used on glass. Even fold down tables or shelves and cupboard doors. Oh I've decided the extra desert plant will be tumbleweed and have already made a nice texture for it. The ease with which they can be destroyed made me want to chose something dry and crispy, rather than a succulent cacti like plant...somehow that seemed more believable! Sorry no pics until I get all the changes finalised.
A new map texture is still planned for a later update, then I can do it justice.
