...Edit: Very small note - I noticed your inventory.png and inventoryLight.png should be switched =)
That's a weird one. Heh. Inventory light should be named Inventory Dark, but luckily the correct file is named Inventory. In short, no impact on gameplay (I didn't dig the dark version so I didn't want it to be default anyway).
The Minecraft texturing has me wanting to make games again. I used to for a small handheld publisher -- I started as a UI guy and then as a spriter/2D artist. I'm trying to decide if I want to make 3D, low-poly assets in an attempt to court a developer or if I should make a quick platformer on my own. I'm trying to learn 3D, so I might do the former anyhow, just for practice.
If I did go 2D, I'd make a cross between Final Fight/Streets of Rage and a normal platformer. The color palette here sucks and nothing is final - just shaking off the cobwebs. Been a few years since I did this.

Very nice looks interesting are you ever going to make obsidian darker, it looks odd.
I love the idea of a brawler/platformer. Good luck with that. By the way, are you a fan of Charles Burns? I get that impression from your (excellent!) art on your website.
I like his stuff, but the real influences are the same people that influenced him. I LOVE Milton Caniff, Noel Sickles, and Johhny Craig. Old EC horror comics, etc. Look up those dudes if you like Burns, they are gods.
RE: Obsidian, I darkened it up a lot from what it was. I like the purple hue and could darken the value more probably, but I'm not sure that I will for the default pack.
I'm getting quotes from a few programmer friends to see if they can make a texture pack customizer for me/my site like the Painterly pack - if so, I want to make a crapload of options.

I'd really like to check out this texture pack, but I keep getting a crash.

Hello fellow minecrafters,
I am poor and unable to buy a minecraft account!
Someone, anyone please help me out!
I have no money and all i do is play on my computer, so please, someone help me out !
That's probably the Photoshop embedded color profile crash. I'm investigating other pixel-level graphics editors on the Mac to use in the future. Windows has a ton of options. I'd LOVE ProMotion for OSX, but there's really no equivalent. I'll check further into this tonight.
One thing I don't really like too much is the new lessened contrast in the textures. They seem a bit muddy and much harder to distinguish, specially in the dark. Just my opinion.

Yeah, there are very few capable OS X image editors, let alone ones suited for pixel art. Pixen is really the only one (AFAIK) meant for pixel art, but it hasn't been supported for about a year and I've found it to be extremely unstable (borderline unusable) on Snow Leopard. But YMMV.
Acorn is actually pretty good and what I've been saving with to fix the error, but I'm not sure how good it is for pixel art.
Edit: Pixelmator is also a very good app, but again I'm not sure how suited it is for pixel art.
Yeah, Paint.net is easy for the basics - for advanced stuff you will have to dig through lots of plugins - which, however, allow you to cover almost all of Photoshop's functionality (albeit in a slightly cumbersome way).

Acorn has always rubbed me funny. Something about the UI just feels off to me. Pixelmator blurs images at high zoom levels. It's a really strange artifact and one I assume is a bug and not a feature. I don't think it used to do this (must be the latest build). I've been off and on using that for a while. For now, I'm bootcamping into Windows 7 x64 and using ProMotion.
Check out Allegro Sprite Editor, though -- it's rad and cross platform.
Hey again, Frenden. I'm glad to hear you hope to have a customizer like painterly; I think that's one of the reasons it has such big appeal.
Once again, I've noticed a small error. You've corrected the tiling issue dirt had, but never updated the dirt.png to reflect it.
Thanks again for the wonderful pack.
Fixed, but in V4 (on my hard drive, not in the zip yet).
Oh, and I have a friend willing to take on the task of making a web-based customizer. So, here's to hoping.

Several of the textures are lighter and should actually be easier to see in the dark. Overall, there was a ~ 5% change in value on a few textures to make them sit better with the plethora of grass colors they encounter with the new grass-biome-situation. It's a trade off. I sacrificed a little bit of color to make sure the tiles didn't clash. I'm tweaking this further.
Frenden, on the error messages that are being thrown. I posted about this in the mc-patcher program, and xau was kind enough to suggest some solutions. We narrowed it down to the /gui/gui.png image, but I'm not totally sure what the problem with it is. I think you're right -- Minecraft is choking on some embedded color profiles.
You're probably much better at this than I am, but I think you can solve that by using Save For Web from Photoshop and selecting PNG-24. Since it saves for the web and not print/multi-use, it doesn't embed any color profiles. That seemed to fix it for me, but something else broke it later.
I like this a lot :ohmy.gif:
It's a good mix of clean and cartoony. It's also 16x16 so it's uber easy on my computer, which also earns you even more points :tongue.gif: haha
My ONLY problem is I have a hell of a time telling things apart when they're in my inventory D;
I'm really not sure how you would go about fixing this, but seeing what you've done with the pack already. I'm sure either you or someone else can come up with some wicked ideas :ohmy.gif:

Just a thought.
I usually save for web, but I suspect I accidentally vanilla-saved a time or two. I just resaved the GUI PNG for web. Here's a zip to test to see if it stalls on other images. It definitely puked when the inventory PNG got called too, so that's been fixed as well.
There are some other changes in this (this is the next version of my pack in beta form, heh). Nothing is final and a lot of it is experimental (IE, if anyone else wants to use this, there's stuff in it that will likely change a lot).
Whoa.
I couldn't try the new Minecraft version yet (heavy flu) and i'm amazed about the progress of this texture pack, the looks of the water and new mobs, this light mod thing (have to try if i can install it on my mac)... really awesome, i can't wait to see it!
The Allegro Sprite Editor is really not bad at all, i use it for a while now. I have also a special workspace and presets for PS when doing pixly stuff, but it's really no fun. :tongue.gif:
PS - is it true i have to create new worlds for biomes, or will new discovered areas in old worlds have it too? I don't want to move out of my tree. ;_;
Yeah, I have a custom workspace set too, but it's no ProMotion or Graphics Gale or ASE or Dpaint or... Heh. Feel better, lady! The flu sucks. :biggrin.gif:

I downloaded Paint.NET and I was surprised at how easy it was to use. Thanks for the tip.
