Instead of bugging xau you all SHOULD be bugging notch to stop being silly and add in support up to 256 already
I distinctly recall Notch stating that he would add support for other texture file sizes, but that he would not support this feature.
I think that his decision to prioritize other things over this support is understandable as the vast majority of Minecraft owners do not mod or alter Minecraft at all, or even know that it's possible to do so.
I DO support the ides of every MCPatcher user going to getsatisfaction and adding their support and comments to the EXISTING thread on larger texture file support.
The problem is notches "priorities' need to change based on what his customers want, this is what happens when you have a business.
When you have 70% of your customers going to someone else to enjoy your product, that means if someone else comes out with a better minecraft clone. Those same people will also flock to that game.
Explain to me how adding cake was more important than adding true HD support, fixed biome grass sides, and fixed snow in biomes. I'm not trying to be negative, I'm being realistic. Does this thread have to hit 1million hits before he notices, oh hey I think people want HD support.
I'm just stating fundamental flaws in notches business method, I'm trying to get the guy 2million sales, before another company makes a minecraft clone later this year.
Which BTW will happen if you know anything about the history of games, nintendo could tell you a few things about someone else coming along and doing what they do better.
Rumble packs, Wiimote, analog sticks, Eyetoy. All technologies/games/movies eventually get ripped off and made better. He needs to be on top of the "pulse" of what his community wants or his community will go elsewhere.
Especially if they are getting technically frustrated with playing the game they perhaps would not be playing without these mods.
Team fortress traditionally has always been more popular than the game engine it's running on, imagine if the developers broke it, and then didn't give the modders easier tools to fix it via official modding support, those modders moved on to newer engines, their "customers" followed.
If anyone has learned the lessons of the pros/cons of great mod support it is blizzard, world of warcraft even with an Army of talent cannot keep the rabid fanbase happy. Imagine that if everytime a new "atlasloot" or "deadly boss mod" came out that if the player base had to use a 3rd party patcher that possibly broke the game to install these.
Imagine if you couldn't go to a raid because you couldn't get a 3rd party patcher to work.... blizzard keeps up mod support to lessen their own workload so they can focus on other things.
While you could argue that you don't need these mods to play Wow, true, you also don't need chocolate syrup on Vanilla Icecream, but it sure makes it better for a lot of people. In fact my girlfriend won't eat vanilla ice cream without it. Much like some wow players won't raid without mods. Much like my Girlfriend won't play vanilla minecraft because as she says "EWWW that game is ugly"
One man cannot hope to compete with an army of talent, modding and making mods more easily accessible to your playerbase is like having a free army of talent at your disposal, to not cater to this is like shooting yourself in the foot.
In business you grow or go, this is the way of the world, and adding better mod support would help the community grow exponentially.
If you look at the popularity of PC games in the past 10 years most of those games that were "game of the year" had excellent mod support, modding allows you to use free labor to increase the replay value of your game.
Notch should be bending over backward to support them, if he doesn't as I said someone else will.
Hey guys, sorry I've been missing. Here's some updates Kahr sent me a while ago. The patcher should automatically work with new Minecraft versions from now on. There's no chance I'm going to catch up on the thread so please post again if you have an issue this version doesn't fix.
LATEST UPDATE:
1.1.11 - Kahr added custom portals, fixed 256x256, and made custom animations automatically fix themselves for new versions.

Notch doesn't purposefully obfuscate the code at all. It's a function of compiling java.
This is not true by the way. Java does not "simplify" class names, that would break linking and stack traces and all kinds of useful things. Obfuscation is a very purposeful step. Notch does it to hinder decompilation, I do it to reduce the file size. I posted the original .jar for the patcher here for comparison: (edit: removed because people were downloading it by mistake) - notice it's over 1mb, vs ~200k for the obfuscated version. For bonus points decompile them both and compare to the original source.
Im confused......can somebody explain me the situation.
The newest version of the HD-Pack is V5
The newest version of MC ist 1.2_01
xau cannot patch the missing textures...because?
Or he need help from us to find the missing textures?
Sorry for ask silly questions, but i own MC only yesterday,
And sorry for my bad brocken english ^^
okay i'm gonna try to help here. I'm assuming with V5 you mean "john smiths" set. It has not yet been updated for the beta 1.2 patch. This patcher has been updated but not the texture pack.

well , you could've posted that in the front page ): .. but lol its k. :3

If you prefer an RPG feel I highly Recommend http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=1021&t=73861Misas texture pack, this pack has been updated for 1.2
If you like a more minecraft themed pack but higher res I recommend my set http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=1021&t=67932&start=120 Minecraft enhanced it is also updated for 1.2
A few others have been updated as well, I suggest using the texture mod list thead to look at a set that is working with 1.2
AngelCraft 64 Texture Pack v2.0.2 (Beta 1.8.1)
Nerd, geek, server admin, guy wearing a rainbow skin (with an office suit of epicness)? That's me.
Not seeing this, what texture pack are you using?
Does it work in unpatched minecraft with screwed up animations, or does it crash?
custom_portal.png in minecraft.jar or a texture pack installed with the patcher.
I prefer your Texture Pack (Maype i donate a few Dollars, if i like it ^^)
But i have a problem:
After i patched all and start the Game, Minecraft dont response. I think its because the big resolution of 128x128......
But im not sure
EDIT: If i drop Misas Texturepatch in the Texture-Folder, Minecraft shows me a crash...dunno how....but all 2 packs dont run
@Misa: If i try to use your Texture-Pack, i get following Crash-Report:
Minecraft has crashed!

Minecraft has stopped running because it encountered a problem.

But thanks for the explanation
I'm joking, the problem occurs when trying to update GERUDOKU's latest texture pack with the latest Fixer.
Updates to 6% then tells me that minecraft.jar is ****ed or something, plus this of course
