Welcome to the Official Forum Page of MC Model Maker! MC Model Maker is a tool for Minecraft designed to make 3D models for the new resource pack format, meaning no mods are needed! It is recommended you visit here to learn to use the model format to get your models working how you want them. MC Model Maker requires that you have Java 0.6+ installed and are running either Mac OSX, Windows or Linux.

Feature list:
Works on PC, Mac and Linux
Free
3D Viewer on PC and Linux *Needs java 6 on Mac*
Allows exporting of Resource Packs or a single JSON file
Change the colours of the selection boxes, including alpha values.
Choose up to 100 custom textures, including import to the background of the editor
Preview the Raw JSON Export
Up to 100 Voxels
Toggle Ambient Occlusion and Change the particle texture of your block
Add comments per voxel
Toggle face culling
Toggle faces
Force Voxel - Allows "Invalid dimensions" like a thickness of zero or inverted blocks.
I had a quick peek at the code. The only bad things I found are:
Artificial Limit of 100 Voxels
Rendering the lines statically with something stupid like 300 g.drawLine calls
also, voxel selection seems buggy...
other than that the tool seems solid. keep on improving!
Thanks for the reply. I was aware of the buggy voxel selection and it was on my mental to-do list.
Probably should have used for loops for the grids, but after the half-hour of copying and pasting I still didn't think of it...
I find the limit "Useful" as even half the amount of voxels has been known to crash minecraft... (Lame excuse, I know)
Anyway, I'll put these on my to fix list and it might be fixed next week.
Thanks for the reply and sorry I forgot to post the source code. (Keep the internet free!)
Its my first useful program that works. -AidoP

Also another tip: make classes. for everything. Voxel? should be a class. Good luck!
Is there any chance you can add some importer (from .blend, .obj, .x3d etc.)? It would really help a lot of people, but probably wouldn't be that simple.

Cool! However, I won't use it yet, because I see there are some bugs and no live 3D model. I fully understand this is WIP so yeah.
Bookmarked to keep myself up to date

The importer is what I'm adding next. It will be for opening .json files though. Will also add the ability to export to .stl and possibly .obj, but that is after the 3D Viewer...

I'v been using LWJGL to make the 3D Viewer and it hasn't been working. I'v been working on it for over a week and can't get it to work. I got some friends to try it out and I'll see if they got it working tomorrow.
Feeling fairly sick so I may spend most of today resting. I really wanted to get 0.0.2 released today!
Looks cool, but isn't actually working on MAC OS X Mountain Lion (10.9.2). It doesn't even let me open it. It just says : "MCModelMaker" Is damaged and cannot be opened. You should move it to trash.
Hope this helps with that bug (or I hope you tell me what I did wrong), keep up the good work!

Have you tried redownloading it? Sometimes sites like that return an error while downloading it and it doesn't get all the files. Testing for errors if it is me instead!
EDIT: Working fine on MAVERICKS 10.9.2. Are you using Lion or Mavericks? It should work on 10.4+ but it is still relevant information. If it is not working after a redownload, try using the All Platforms download. Forgot to ask. Do you have java?

For this, I mean the import from .obj. Also, it seems that on windows, when I click in the grid, it actually isn't aligned correctly. Could you add some way to load images behind the grid also?

Working on loading images and I thought I had fixed the selection being off
On holidays for 2 1/2 weeks and don't have a way to work on it in this time....
I won't be using this program for now, since it's still pretty early. But I'll bookmark this page to see how it develops. Considering this is a free version of Cubik in development, this seems like a good thing to keep track of. Keep up the good work.
I am having trouble understanding how to use the UV editor, as it seems to be 17*17 while a texture is only 16*16.
EDIT. Its because of the way the program counts. It counts pixels rather than grid lines, and with 0, It makes it look like it is 17x17. Its like comparing feet and meters. They are different units. I will add an image background to stop confusion.
NOTE: 0,0 is not a Pixel but rather a point which is why this "extra" row and column are put in.
it is a VERY good program betten than this Cubik Sh** that is overpriced and only works on windows.
it makes it much easier to do modeling and is not restricted to any limits (ok it hasn't got culling yet but it will hopefully come soon)
and if anyone says that there aren't enough cubes to use they have made something wrong.(because over 100 cubes in one block will make a world crash if you use that block)

Thanks. I was going to work on culling and full face removal after getting the importer finished. I thought I had it yesterday but it started playing up sadly.

I'v been questioning myself if I should try but have concluded not to. Even if I get this to "work", It would still crash and get errors as this format only works with cubes on a certain grid. Sadly all the reasons why you would use blender is all the reasons why it wouldn't work.
Im not saying it is impossible, but the time and effort it will take, for not even a guarantee of it working, is too much. I may in the future, but not now.
Still a thanks to everyone who downloads and uses it!
to import an .obj etc. file isn't possible because minecraft removed the ability to place faces as you want to (what .obj etc. can do)
Maybe someone will make one that automaticly snaps to the minecraft grid, but tat would be hard. Realy hard. (and ugly)

Fixed the 3D Viewer. On Mac it requires java 1.6. If you have both 1.6 and 1.7 installed you can run "java -jar <MC Model Maker.jar> -version 1.6"
Plus many more changes. Read the above post.
