I wanted to get into learning the mechanics of the anvil item combination and book enchanting. After reading the wiki on it, I realized that I could create a tool in excel to play around with repairing, combining items with items and items with books. Another goal of was to show a breakdown of where the level cost was coming from when combining two items or item-book.
The below screen shot of the tool shows a bow being repaired. The cost breakdown and final cost are calculated based on target enchants and sacrifice durability.
How it works
Use the drop downs to select type of enchant you wish to put on an item for both the Target and Sacrifice items. If the target or sacrifice doesn’t have any enchants, just make sure the enchant list is empty. Once you have your enchant and levels input, put in the number of prior jobs the item/book has been through. http://www.minecraft...or_Work_penalty
For Item-Item combine, specify if any repairs are being done to the Target. If the target has full durability, set the option to “No” and all inputs for repair are ignored. If there is repair being done, input both the target and sacrifice durability and material. Pressing F3 + H will enable inventory tool tips to see current durability.
Notes:
Renaming an item resets it prior repairs to 1.
The higher the sacrifice durability the more the repair costs. Use the “durability lost to over repair” field to optimize the number of levels spent repairing an item.
Renaming an Item with a book with an enchant that is lower level than the target is the cheapest way to rename.
If you find any issues please let me know what your setup was with your inputs. To avoid issues, make sure the prior work input is correct, I found this to be hard to keep straight.
It's a great tool, but not perfect
The following errors noticed:
- When the item has been renamed (you have such option) the prior work penalty should always be 2, no matter of previous repairs (am I right?). But your spreadsheet still counts the entered number of previous repairs. I think, you should not put an AND condition in the E19 cell, but just check the B18 cell - if yes, then it is 2, otherwise - multiply.
- Isn't it better to make drop-down lists for item subtype and material, like you did for enchants? I've tried to enter "Pickaxe", "Axe", "Tool", but nothing worked until I entered "Sword".
- I wanted to check how much combining of two diamond pickaxes with full durability would cost. The enchantments are the following: target - efficiency 5, looting 3; sacrifice - efficiency 3, unbreaking 3. I specified these enchantments in Enchant1: and Enchant2: cells for both pickaxes. Target final stats shows me only two target previous enchantments. I expected to see Unbreaking 3 added as the third enchant, however it's not there.
However, I use your spreadsheet not in Excel (I don't have it) but in LibreOffice and in Softmaker Free Office. But they were good enough for calculating repair costs and some other combinations.
And another suggestion - release your spreadsheet not just in the new xlsx format, but also in older xls format for more compatibility. Of course in case that doesn't break anything.
