Update: April 26th, 2012 - fixed nether map placement and Mac compatiblity. I haven't tried it myself, but I've had other users confirm that you can make this run on a Mac now using Mono for OSX (http://www.mono-project.com/Mono:OSX)
Since many people have asked for it, here's an updated version of my Planetoids map generator, compatible with the latest (1.2.5):
For people who aren't familiar with it, this generator makes a map that's compoed of hundreds of little planets:
To use this generator:
1. Download the .exe file and run it
2. Enter a name to use for the world file
3. Wait unti it says "Map generation complete."
4. Find the folder in the same directory as the .exe with the same name you gave to the world, and move it to your levels folder (%appdata%\Roaming\.minecraft\saves) if you're running single player on Windows.
5. Run Minecraft and select the world
6. Play
Updates for V2 include:
* Compatible with Minecraft V 1.2.5
* Uses the full map height (256) - Now twice as much space for planets!
* No more ugly outer wall - the map is surrounded by a moat of open air too wide to see across.
* Now the nether has planets too! If you travel to the nether in a Planetoids map, it's made up of a different set of nether-specific planetoids.
For this initial V2 release I've turned off some of the options for varying map density. I'll add them back in later if people really want them.
Here's a couple of map images (normal and nether) of a 16x16 chunk map, for reference:
Normal Map:
Nether Map:
(Map images generated using MCMap)
Also, for anyone who still wants it, I'm leaving the original generator available for download from the links in the original topic here: http://www.minecraft...ds-v175-now-up/
(note, I don't think that one works with the current build of Minecraft at all)
Thanks for updating Seibai, will give it a try when I get home from work and let you know how I get on.
Can I suggest, if you haven't already, adding a link to this topic to the first post in the other topic so people can find it easier. I'm off to update my bookmarks now.
The Nether map looks really interesting and will certainly add a new dynamic to hunting for glowstone. I reckon it'll be genuinely terrifying having to build a bridge across to a glowstone world and carve up enough of it to make the trip worth while, whilst at the same time praying the ghasts don't destroy your only link back to the planet with the portal!
One word, AWESOME!
But there is still no lapis lazuli planet, which would be nice
Reimplementing the option like planet size and density will be superb
In the option, would it be possible to choose between low level liquid, surrounded by void, and normal level water, surrounded by water?
That would facilitate integration and merging with the natural world, as I'd like to put a planetoid zone in the vast ocean of my server
thank you very much for your great work!

It is REALLY annoying for everybody.
What program do you need to open this cause when i tried to open this with archive on my mac I got a message saying it couldnt be opened using that program.
Well I've just fired it up and went for a 32x32 world. I didn't really know what these values mean but the minimum was 16 and it says 64 takes a while so 32 seemed to make sense.
297.2668077 seconds later and we're done. Not an unreasonable time I guess. I mean 297.2668027 would be better but at least it isn't 297.2668177!!!
Right off to try and load it up...'Enter to Exit' done...file copied...loading...OMG WHAT THE HELL HAS HAPPENED!!
This mod has completely screwed up my game, all the blocks are in huge globe like things in the sky and there is lava all over the place where the ground should be! Oh well, nevermind, I think I'll give it a go anyway.
Will post back later, away to give it a go, got EE installed and that's it...here goes!

Windows, (Not a go at you personally but I never thought I'd see the day when people didn't know how to open .exes!)

So that means there is no way it can be played on a mac? Sorry im not very good with computers...

It means you can't run the .exe so you won't be able to generate your own worlds but you can still use ones other people generate. Here is one you can try out http://www.mybrillgamesite.com/downloads/Planets.zip, just download and continue from step 4 above. It's called Planets, has a size of 32 and a base of lava and it's the one I'm playing just now. Seibai, if you'd rather your maps weren't shared like this let me know and I'll take it down again.
In my game it is roughly day 3 and I'm scared I'm going to starve to death, thankfully just before turning off for the night I managed to make some bread and have what may become a sustainable farm forming, if the damn creepers stay away! I'm thinking diamond is going to be really hard to find but at least I don't need to go to the nether for glowstone. Can't wait to get my Destruction Catalyst, I'll be a destroyer of worlds!!!

This is what the mod does you noob... -edit- sorry i thought you were one of those retards who was
being real, now i know your joking xP sorry bout that.
Where in the map did you make your portal? The nether area I generate is the same size as the normal map, but since distance in the nether counts for more, any portla in the normal part of the map should take you there.
I may have to go and build myself another portal to check that out.

...oh and i am experiencing spawn location changing. like if i spawn in the center on the planetoid after death i respawn in different location close to original spawn point. i ended up falling to my death after respawning
Same here. Got blown up by a damn creeper (so hard to tell if it is night or day!) and now I keep falling to my death whenever I re-spawn.
Guess I'll start a new game. Can anyone in the know suggest where in the data file the spawn location is stored or is it all encrypted and stuff?
Can you tell us when you think you'll release Planetoids V2.1 please?

for me it happens all the time even in new world ( i generated 5 or so)
Same here, I thought I could get round it by building a huge platform near my original spawn point but it looks as though the respawn point is based off where you die rather than where you start.
My advice is to generate a world with water at the bottom that way if you spawn in mid air you won't die when you hit the bottom provided you can do some tactical planet dodging!
Since many people have asked for it, here's an updated version of my Planetoids map generator, compatible with the latest (1.2.5):

Looks like I got lucky with my latest level and spawned pretty near my start point anyway, will keep it in mind though
