Hello there!
Over the past several weeks I have been making a MineCraft Blender rig of Steve for my own personal use.
As I finished up the right along with all the blocks I decided that I should share this rig with everyone.
That is so nice of me!
Now I will just start off by saying that I am not a professional or even close to professional Blender user. In fact, I am pretty much a n00b when it comes to 3d software and all that kind of stuff. Point is, this might not be 100% optimized, but does it work? Fo' sure!
Now there are a few (two that I have seen) rigs floating around there so what sets mine apart?
Well the only thing that really does set me apart is facial expressions and a slightly different structure to the armature.
Facial expressions:
A variety of blocks:
Currently the mobs are: Steve (Steve can be retextured to a zombiePig and a zombie), A femalecharacter, a squid, a pig, an Enderman, aCreeper, a skeleton, a wolf, a Ghast, a spider(so hard to animate! all them legs!), a golem, a slime (problematic due to materials), a magma slime, a chicken, a villager, a witchand a Portal gun (??) .
Here are a couple of tutorials to help you out: Youtube -
Finally, just before I give you the download link, there are some terms!

-I would very much like to see what you do with my work. Please do send a link over my way with anything you make with it. You do not HAVE to do this though.

If there is a new update to Blender and the rig doesn't work, go to:
help - Fcurve/driver version fix!
Also, environment lighting is on. This may add to the render time. You might want to consider turning it off.
I've updated the download link. The new version includes a couple of new blocks. Including a few cloth blocks, a bed, end rock block and the cactus block.
i dont have blender, tried it out, to complicated :S
I will redownload it along with this :biggrin.gif: thank you very very much kind sir
About two months ago I was exactly where you were. I downloaded Blender, and almost gave up. If you want to learn Blender try BlenderCookie or BlenderGuru.
here I was planning to do this very thing myself. Ah well, saves me a fair amount of work, thank you kindly.
Also, about blender being complicated... give it time, check out the blendercookie and blenderguru already mentioned have fun with it. I have 3dsMAX, Rhino and Maya at work, and have never had any fun with them, even when used for personal projects. Blender on the other hand has always amazed me and been plain out fun and a joy to work with, even with it's shortcomings and quirks.

Yes, I agree. I sometimes have more fun making MineCraft related things in blender than playing MineCraft itself.
Actually same applies also if it isn't related to MC. I have never used any of those other programs though. They are pretty expensive for personal use.
That looks so cool!! I am new to blender so could you please make a tutorial on how to make the facial rig because that is the main thing that's stopping me from animating at the moment, it's just SO important that I know this!
No I won't be doing that. However you can find a great tutorial by David Ward over at BlenderCookie.
where can i download the blocks? or am i missing something?
You are missing something! The blocks come along with the rig.
I will be adding a couple of new blocks soon. Including some different colored grass and leaves for different biomes, pine leaves (the dark wood, is it pine? I'm just guessing), nether brick and nether brick fences. It will probably be up within an hour or so.
I have updated the download link!
It now includes rigged pistons, redstone, half steps, steps, more fences, vines, different colored grass and much much more!
I changed the pistons a bit because they didn't extend enough. Should work now.
They can only be controlled by the bone now. So switch to object mode and move the bone in order to move the entire piston.
hello YOU ARE A GOD :biggrin.gif: although 1 problemo. everything white :/ and i don't feel like manually mapping everything unless i really need to so if you could tell me whats up that would be awsome ps im making an intro for my channel
EDIT-the textures where undefined xD it's k now also the bookcase :biggrin.gif: ARE AWSOME
I'm sorry I couldn't help you a little earlier. I am happy to see you managed to work it out any way!
Please to let me know when your intro is done and I will take a look at it and even post it here.

Thank you very much!
Very soon I will be updating the download link to include a couple more blocks.
They creeped me out since that Revenge video...
No, I won't be doing that anytime soon. Maybe eventually but probably not.
How ever you can find a few of those if you just search in google.
