When does the update for 1.7 comes out? Really need this :S
Amidst v3.4 works fine on all versions from 1.2.5 through 1.7.2 on my Windows 7 machine.
I've currently got notes on about 400 MC 1.7 version world seeds, and I don't note but 1 in 5 of the random maps I look at. Maybe less.

Hi, I've been using this tool for a long time now. I was wondering if you could add in a feature so we could see the boundaries of our spawn chunks from the software? I think it would be super useful.
Had to download the .jar file (Mac told me the .app one was broken) but this works great, thanks! Any chance you could add passive mob spawn locations at all, or are they too random? (for "passive mobs" read: horses)
Libraries cleared of older files... Amidst works. As simple as that. Thanks BigAlanM, Dweller_Benthos, RenXO, and others that helped pinpoint this directly or indirectly. Mem
Indeed, we seem to be very lucky to have such dedicated people supporting everyone!
I'll be sure to look into this. Right now AMIDST just loads everything in that directory. (I assumed that no mods would touch it) Perhaps I'll just make a manual load list.

I was wondering why 3.4 wasn't working for me (nothing even happens when I click on the okay button unless I have default selected, then it opens for 1.6.4 but doesn't draw a map when I try to use it); I do have libraries installed by Forge, as well as one I made (added in the way described here for Optifine, which I used until it was made into a Forge mod).
This is such an amazing program. But why can't you find dungeons with it?
I'm going to answer this, again. I've saved this so I can post it periodically.
Amidst is meant to be a FAST Minecraft mapper of existing MineCraft worlds and, if given a seed and certain other parameters, will produce a 2D map equal to what the MineCraft world generator would produce with the same information, albeit MC is much, much slower.
1. Skidoodle is not getting paid to produce Amidst. He's doing this for his own reasons and I, for one, certainly appreciate the time and effort he has and is putting into make Amidst a useful tool for MineCraft aficionados. I expect him to ignore these requests as they are outside of the established goals of the program.(At least I would, if I were as busy as he probably is, but then again I'm not known for playing well with others)
2. As I understand it, Amidst uses many of the procedures that exist in the java code of the MineCraft main program that creates a new world. It ONLY uses the initial code that establishes the biomes, their shapes, and the PROBABLE positions of surface structures and the X,Z coordinates of the three strongholds. ie a 2D representation of the world that the seed entered would produce.
3. At this stage of world generation there is no distinction between witch huts, jungle temples, and desert temples. The actual structure produced, if at all, is decided by the world generator routines quite late in the world creation process, after the 3D characteristics of the location have been decided. Much later in the world generation process MineCraft goes back and finalizes the decisions with respect to these probable locations. The type of structure will usually be decided by what biome it is in. That is witch huts in swamp, desert temples in deserts, and jungle temples in jungle. Obvious, but it had to be said.
Sometimes, the suggested location will be deemed unsuitable for some reason and the structure(s) won't be produced. That's why Amidst will map a village or temple and it won't be there when you create the world and travel to the spot.
4. If Amidst were to endeavor to produce a 3D map it would as slow, or slower, than actually using MineCraft to generate the world. Even MineCraft doesn't produce a 3D database of a world until someone actually gets close to the chunks of the world involved.
5. At the level of world generation that Amidst stops adding items to the map the probable locations of subterranean structures are not yet established. (Even the locations of the three strongholds are subject to some variation, although I've yet to find Amidst to be off by much and you have to bear in mind that a stronghold is a large, multilevel structure, not just a portal room.)
6. If you desire the ability to find dungeons, abandoned mines, ore location, etc. there are a lot of other 3D mapping programs out there that will do that. Of course they only work on worlds that have been created by MineCraft or some sort of MineCraft world editor. I, personally, use Minutor 1.6.3 for this function. YMMV

Not sure if this was talked about prior, but:
Would it be (or is it) possible to have a biome filter? For example, I just spent an extended period of time looking for a Mega Taiga on my previously generated map. Is it possible to have all of the other biomes greyed out and the one (or similar types) come in as full color? With some of the new rare type biomes, it may be handy dandy for quick identification.
Been using this for AGES now, just wondering what the plans are for when it will be ready for 1.7?! Im sorry if this is annoying, just that i've been gathering tons of clay for big project until i found out about this new "Mesa" biome. Then i spent about 8 hours searching for one, nothing happened so i felt i needed to go to the last resort, using this. I can wait, it's just any indication of time ready would be much appreciated. Cheers! Keep up the work, it's really appreciated!!
AMIDST will work on a 1.7.2 install. It will say version: undefined but will generate the map with its usual 98.9% accuracy (I just made that number up). If it doesn't, try deleting the 'libraries' folder in .minecraft and run 1.7.2 again to download the most current libraries. It was found out that having bad files in your .minecraft\libraries folder can cause AMIDST to fail silently.

You may need to clean old files out of the minecraft library folder if it does not work right away.
Mem
edit: CAD97 beat me to it. The files are not exactly bad... there are just newer ones as minecraft updates.
but mojang does not clear out the older ones when you update. Amidst does not see what ones are new and old and can grab the wrong ones.
After trying to open AMIDST after downloading this on OS X Mavericks, I got this error: http://imgur.com/TCuphBk
Currently running 13w39b on Minecraft, if that makes any difference.
anybody? I deleted/moved _everything_ from the .minecraft folder (but the resourcepacks), so its fresh and clean libraries
That isn't the standard library error we were getting which was cured by deleting the libraries folder and getting a fresh one. Not sure what's causing that, but I see a lot of java errors about rendering things on screen and such, at least that's as much as I can gather from the error messages and a quick google search. Have you updated your video drivers and java version recently? Might be a good idea to do so, if it doesn't help this error, it won't hurt. Other than that, I have no idea.

Skidoodle has stated that he is researching explicitly loading ONLY the libraries that are needed by Amidst and ignoring the others in the libraries folder. However this, to me, opens up another bag of worms.
Every time Minecraft updates he'll have to update Amidst.
I don't think he wants to spend the rest of his life chasing a moving target.
I don't think he can just use his own libraries because for Amidst to make the same map as Minecraft it has to use the same routines Minecraft is using.
Then, again, I could be wrong. It wouldn't be the first time.
EDIT: Upon reviewing the above it has occurred to me that I've not had the libraries problem, ever.
1. I've never modded Minecraft except for MCPatcher and Optifine quite some time ago and never for any 1.7 snapshot or final version.
2. My libraries folder has never been erased/rewritten by me since I signed up in Nov. of 2011. Any changes have been made by Mojang, if at all.
3. That would indicate to me that Skidoodle MAY be able to define just the libraries he needs and ignore the others and most likely when Minecraft updates it will just overwrite the old library files and leave the names the same. (One can only hope.)

I know my machine at home has been modded way more than the machine here, with the .minecraft folder being littered with tons of junk. AMDIST always worked fine there. The machine here has been modded, but not as much, and AMIDST didn't work here until I refreshed the libraries folder. I know there are files in there that Mojang leaves behind when a new file is created. Look at your .minecraft\libraries\com\mojang\authlib folder, how many versions do you have? I had three in my old copy, 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3. The new copy has only 1.3. Therefore, when Mojang creates a new authlib file, it doesn't delete the old one but leaves it laying around.
I'm going to fiddle with it, see if I can narrow it down to what causes the problem.
Turns out it was an old Modloader jar stuck in the .minecraft\libraries\net\modloader\modloader\1.5.2 folder. Got rid of that and it works. Modloader must have created that file at one point or another. It's quite possible I never used Modloader 1.5.2 on my machine at home, but just went straight with Forge. I know Modloader modifies several base classes, so it probably changes the terrain generator enough that AMIDST can't read it.
So the TL:DR of this one is, look in .minecraft\libraries\net\ if there's a modloader folder there, delete it to get AMIDST running.
After trying to open AMIDST after downloading this on OS X Mavericks, I got this error: http://imgur.com/TCuphBk

Most likely this is because of Gatekeeper. Try right clicking on Amidst and selecting "Open" instead of double-clicking. This should bypass Gatekeeper, although I'm not completely certain that's the problem.
I still can't get Admidst 3.4 to work. And as I understand it, it's the only one working with Minecraft 1.7?Can anyone help me? I don't understand why it does not work.I have a completely fresh install of Minecraft.Would for an example Optifine make any difference?
Amidst 3.4 works on Window based systems on nearly all Minecraft versions produced in the last couple of years.
Definitely any version in the last 12 months or more.
I don't know for sure if that is true for other operating systems, but I think so.
If you are running Windows, you can also download the debug version of Amidst 3.4 and run that to see what is going wrong.
See my post #3656 on page 183 of this topic for how to capture the output of the debug window.
And then post it here in a spoiler (just to save space) for us to review. Maybe we can give you a definitive answer.
