I just saw a strange "quirk" between 2.1 and Beta1.
I have both 1.5.2 and 1.6.2 files on my machine.
Someone on the SEEDS forum posted a request for someone to help him evaluate the seed "suomi" so I fed it to both versions of Amidst and got essentially the same maps with one two, so far, differences.
Beta1 shows a jungle temple at 880, -224 but v2.1 shows a witch hut at that location. ?????
So, I started up MC 1.6.2 and created the world, in default, and went on walkabout. As I guessed would be the case, there was no building of any kind at that point.
The same situation exists at -1200, 1232. Beta1 says temple, v2.1 says witch hut. However, in this case v2.1 is correct, there IS a witch hut at that location. Curiouser and curiouser.

That can happen. I thought it'd be something like this, hence the re-poking.
....snip....
Also, unrelated, there seems to be an issue with strongholds showing when loading a world folder. I needed to be off 25 minutes ago, but I'll try and get some screenshots and more information later.

It appears the issue is some small rounding error. I'll look into it, but basically it thinks the temple is in the river, and therefor does not pick witch hut.
Please don't give up!
You're doing a terrific job on a program that is TRULY useful!
Especially the random map function.
I can guarantee that alone will make version 3 a hit.

This program used to work when I used it a month or two ago, but now I'm getting that error that most others are as well.
AMIDST ran in JAR mode without -noverify!
Use: java -noverify -jar AMIDST.jar
The problem is that I'm not using the .jar version, I'm using the windows .exe version
I downloaded the software again thinking I had an out of date version, but still same problem.
So, I decided to download the Linux Jar version and I ran "java -noverify -jar AMIDST.jar" and I get this weird error and the program still does not run.

- Other: Maps may now be loaded by selected the world folder or the level.dat file.
I LOVE IT!!!
It's working great on my Windows 7 machine.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
How can I/we repay you for this?
I spend a lot of my time on the PC-MC seeds forum evaluating seeds discovered by others.
Just today I was able to post an original seed discovery of my own all because of the random function of Amidst.
I found a world with a desert temple, a village, and a stronghold on top of each other. What are the odds?
Why does the program show up on my task bar with the circle brick logo but not on my desktop?
I've had to point at Amidst v2.0.26.exe to get an icon for all versions since then. That icon, of course, is the square brick version.

That's working really well now, thanks Skidoodle!
Earlier in the thread I think you you mentioned something about villages & rivers? The seed I am playing on, I notice that close to my spawn point amidst says there are 4 villages in a circle around where I start, but there's actually only 2 - the other 2 places are in rivers (I'm guessing there would have been villages there if the river hadn't been?)
Once you get the final release up, please don't forget to put ad.fly link up! It's the only way I can really help you out =)

I forgot to include the icon in the exe wrapper. I'll do that on the official release.
For a future update, I'd like to add an option that lets you decide what map type is picked every time you create a new map.. something like:
- Always Ask
- Normal
- Super Flat
- Large Biomes
As far as I'm considered, AMIDST belongs to everyone, so there's no need to repay me. Although if you ever find someone desperate to hire an inexperienced programmer, let me know

I don't know if this has been suggested, I looked but couldn't find anything. Would it be possible to add an option to disable a particular set of icons instead of all of them at once?
For instance, I could uncheck strongholds and temples and load seeds with only villages showing on the map ... same if I only wanted to know where the strongholds, etc.

Thanks for the great program!
It would be rather easy on my end, however, since we're currently at release candidates, this addition will have to wait.
You're joking, right? You did see the post exactly TWO POSTS ABOVE YOURS with the beta download links, right?
I really don't understand what's so hard here. Check the first page, then check the last page (and MAYBE have to check the next-to-the-last page).
The same can be said for SPC, they were crying for a month or more that it wasn't ready for 1.6 when it was, though because it's open source the update wasn't built by the original author, worked just fine, delivered what we'd expect and was 4 pages in from the back of the thread. Though no matter how many times we repeat ourselves and give the advice you give, someone will come along "after you post the answer" and ask that totally redundant question, as if they haven't a single brain cell in their head lol .
Aoccdrnig to a rscheearch at Cmabrigde Uinervtisy, it deosn't mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoatnt tihng is taht the frist and lsat ltteer be at the rghit pclae. Another case of creeping featureisms - It just occurred to me that it would be very helpful if there was an information menu item that would return the following:
1. Seed as entered (text or numeric)
2. Numeric seed (value actually used to produce the map)
3. World type (I have a crappy memory)
4. Save folder name (if loaded from file)
5. World name (again, if loaded from file. This could be different from item 4)
World name is the LevelName: entry in the level.dat file and is what is displayed in the Select World list of MC at the beginning of play.
And, of course, the ability to copy this to the clipboard.
I have a text file and, actually, an Excel workbook to store notes on seeds and worlds I've investigated or found to be of interest.

Switched to BB for the time, and we'll see how that goes. https://bitbucket.org/skiphs/amidst/
I'll put the next build on there.

Edit:
The memory leak crashes AMIDST after 3 maps.
