Quick question, are you the administrator or have administrator privileges on the machine where Amidst DOESN'T work.
I assume the your are/do on the machine "at home".
There has been some indication that Amidst won't work for those that don't have admin. powers.
OBTW - I just updated MC and checked.
On my Windows 7 machine (administrator) Amidst 3.4 works fine with Minecraft 1.7.2.

Yes, I am logged in as admin on this system and do have admin privileges. It's really strange, the system here and the one at home are almost identical, software-wise and very similar hardware-wise. My home system has a beefier video card and sound card, but none of that should effect AMIDST. They both have similar programs installed. I'm really just trying to figure it out to see if we can help the other people with this problem, I don't really have a use for AMIDST here, lol.

So, I didn't see anything about this on the first page, and this might be addressed somewhere in this long thread, but I had a question about Amidst and the new fortress/witch huts saving format introduced in 1.6.4:
Can Amidst read/display fortress/witch huts that are indicated only in these new DAT files? (As opposed to fortresses/witch huts that are generated by the terrain generator)
Does it have the ability to edit/modify these values, to allow mapmakers to define custom fortress/witch hut spawning regions?

Short answer, no. Long answer (though admittedly not that much longer), AMIDST only uses the seed and first-pass generation of terrain to make its map. The only thing it reads from your save when you choose one is a) the seed and the player location(s).Also, I want to say that for me AMIDST is working beautifully on any version, though this may be in part be because I'm using latest Java/JDK versions as mentioned earlier. When I run AMIDST on my 1.7.2 profile it says "Amidst v3.4 [Using Minecraft version: unknown | Attempted: 1.7.2]" in the title bar but it works fine for generating the terrain from an entered seed. I've not actually loaded from a file, so that may be the problem....Anyway, as mentioned before this is an amazing tool, and I stumbled across a spawn chunk witch hut when checking seeds for 1.7.2 - "Claude". I was just trying random words and got it - and there is a ice plains spikes on the display so I stumbled into the perfect seed for me, lucky me!
I just checked Amidst 3.4 set to 1.7.2 and uploaded the seed and position from the save file level.dat of a world generated by MC 1.7.2 and it worked perfectly.

I find that it's not working for a world created with 1.7.2, but works with worlds created in earlier versions.
This is the problem I am having. If I select a profile greater than 1.6.4 the profile selector hangs. If I change the version back to 1.6.4 it works. I'm in Windows 7. I've tried the 3.4 standard and debug.
I don't see how people are getting AMIDST to work with 1.7, it is not possible, AMIDST does not support the class definitions of 1.7 as they were shuffled, therefore it tries to reflect on the wrong classes/methods and therefore simply can't work. The only way I can get past the profile selection is to remove the manifest from the Minecraft JAR so AMIDST ignores it, but it still can't do any of the actual important stuff to actually *work*.

Well, not quite... AMIDST doesn't just use a predefined list of class names. It searches through all the .class files and picks out the correct ones based on a number of factors... however it appears something went wrong in this case. I'll try to get an update out ASAP.
To everyone:
Sorry I haven't been around, I'm just trying my best to get by!
Edit:
I just loaded 1.7.2 with no problems at all. It comes up as "unknown" for the version, but it works great.
No idea what's going on for you o:
Just downloaded Amidst v3.4.
It appears to be working fine on MC 13w39b.
One thing I did learn a week or two ago and forgot to mention:
If you set up a profile for a new MC version, make sure you actually RUN MC with that profile before you try to get Amidst to use it.
MC doesn't download the actual version code UNTIL you tell the loader to run it the first time. You could set up profiles for ten different versions and REALLY mess up Amidst.
I suppose Skidoodle could probably do a check to see if the version folder existed before trying to access it. Just a thought that just this minute bubbled up.
Also, as he said above, the world generator hasn't been changed (as far as I can tell) in the last couple of weeks so running Amidst with the 13w38a profile will give you the same map as 39b.
Oh, I was getting the lock up also. So bad that I had to use task manager to kill javaw.exe to be able to close Amidst and restart it.
had this issue also, and using this specific method and snapshot got it to work, but it locked up hard on everything else.

Glad to see you're still interested in updating. If I had any programming skills, I'd try to add to the project, but my slim experience in visual basic isn't going to be much help.
I also just tried it here on 1.7.2 on a fresh world created in 1.7.2 and it works fine. Then again, my computer at work won't even run AMIDST and the config there is pretty much the same as here. I posted a couple debug dumps on the bug reporter site. Can't figure out what's causing it.

I don't think I have the JDK installed here, at least nothing like that is listed in my programs & features list. All I have, java related are:
Sorry to post again, but I still can't get Amidst 3.4 to work properly. The problem is still that it doesn't do anything when I go to generate any world, as in, the GUI works but there's nothing in the map space and the map button is greyed out. I'm running java 7u45 with the JDK installed, I have ran it with Admin privileges to no avail.
Here's what the debugger says when I press the OK button to generate a map with 1.7.2, though the same thing comes up with 1.6.4 or indeed, any version at all.

open a command prompt window and type-
java -version
You will see something like-
C:\Documents and Settings\Compaq_Administrator>java -version
java version "1.7.0_45"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_45-b18)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 24.45-b08, mixed mode, sharing)
The above shows that I am running just the JRE (runtime enviro) and not the JDK (development kit).
I am one of those that can not get Amidst to load a map of 1.7.2 MC.

Again, any advice would be greatly appreciated.
open a command prompt window and type-
java -version
You will see something like-
C:\Documents and Settings\Compaq_Administrator>java -version
java version "1.7.0_45"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_45-b18)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 24.45-b08, mixed mode, sharing)
The above shows that I am running just the JRE (runtime enviro) and not the JDK (development kit).
I am one of those that can not get Amidst to load a map of 1.7.2 MC.
Skidoodle- So have we got a JDK dependency for Amidst right now?
Mem
I'm getting the same problem here.
