Yes! Finnaly, an exuse to make a dam! I have always wanted to block a river with wood (and be like a beaver) or make it with wood. I also think the depth control is cool, and width control also, so i can make a giant dam!
This should get ... 50 diamonds, because i have always wanted rivers

I call it naptime, which is right before foodtime, then comes foodnaptime! that is my favorite time of them all. Legends are made by year 2552 scientists, not born
i opened this up and used it then i played my world and when i saw a river my first thought was....... "WHITE WATER RAFTING IN MINECRAFT!!!!!!!" diamonds for you sir
First of all, glad you guys like it! Also, I'm glad that it seems to work for everyone -- if it doesn't work for you, be sure to post.

This is a feature idea...... How about making all the water flow a certain way such as out to sea or a lake
Heh, I kind of knew that this one was going to come up :-)
This was how I initially envisioned it: rivers that would flow down mountains into lakes and oceans. However, after building this into a tool, I found that those rivers are generally less fun! This has to do with the Minecraft terrain. Mountains are generally quite small (e.g. no large plateaus or anything). So, when you start a river at the top of a mountain, it will usually go down quite fast. After that, it's usually down to 10 blocks above sea level or so. Now, say the river ends at the ocean. That means that for the rest of the river, there's only 10 blocks for it to go down, which leads to mainly flat rivers.
In the next version I plan on adding a slider that you can use to control the realism of the stream. Keep in mind that it also makes them flatter though.

Wow this thing is great, haven't seen any bugs that I didn't already expect yet.
Could you tell me a bit more about the bugs you encountered?

Looks awesome but any chance of a custom path so I can gen some rivers for my server without having to move the world to single player path and then back again
Yep, this is scheduled for the next version.
Summing up feature suggestions so far:
- Custom path for loading worlds (useful for servers).
- Settings to change river depth, width and realism/flatness.
- Gold that can occasionally be found at the bottom of rivers (I hadn't commented on this yet, nice idea).
In general, keep the feedback/bug reports/ideas coming! Feel free to include screenshots of glitchy terrain (to illustrate bugs) or epic rivers/lakes that you'd like to see more of :-)
When I try to load my world it says "Reading chunk data... (0%)" and the program instantly crashes. I tried running it as an Admin. on my computer and I ran it in different compatibility modes but it still doesn't run. I think it might be caused by the mods I have that add new blocks (Coral Reefs, Scuba Diving, More Trees). If you know of any way to fix this that would be great, but either way this is still an awesome idea. :biggrin.gif:

As coral reefs add more blocks to put under water sources, I don't think the generator will work with the coral, since coral will try to spawn under a river, which I don't think is possible.

Well some times there is no blocks holding in the water in the river, so there is no river bank, but the water just sits there and doesn't flow. If i'm corect that is a minecraft problem and has nothing to do with youre tool. One bug I have seen that might be fixible but doesn't bother me is sometimes the water fall will extend far out from the drop off, as far as 10 blocks in rare cases. However I have only encountered this when using youre tool on extrem terrain generated with BTM.
This is, admittedly, a concept that never occurred to me. Even though I didn't think it up, it's still really awesome. Really good job, have some diamonds.

Thanks for the bug report! You're right, this has probably got to do with the new blocks. I'll try to release a fix later today. (Don't know exactly how the coral reef mod works, but you might get some river coral ;-))

Once I fix the above bug, the generator should be able to handle coral. I'd expect the coral mod to work as well, since hypothetically you could dig the river yourself, and I doubt the coral mod would crash in that case. (Don't have the mod though, so correct me if I'm wrong ;-))

Thanks for the bug report! I've seen these issues as well in some sample maps that I generated. The "no river bank" issue occurs because Minecraft doesn't update water blocks unless something around them changes in-game. If you put a block next to the river "edge" you'll see that it will start to flow. This one's definitely fixable though, currently looking into a few different ways to do it.
The second bug would be a bit harder to fix. In the situations where a river extends out, there's probably some terrain above the river. This causes the generator to think that it can build a river there, as long as the river's lower than that terrain -- which is not always true. You mentioned that it's not too much of a problem, and I agree, so I'm probably going to leave this as it is for now.
All right, version 0.2 is out. The "coral mod blocks" bug should be fixed now. I don't have the mod myself though, so if anyone could verify that it actually works that would be awesome =) I've also added a "browse..." option to open worlds outside of the Minecraft saves folder. Adjustable settings coming in 0.3!
Maybe have the ability to use a seed to generate a river path? SO that as i expand the map, I can simply go in to the rivergen, enter the seed and extend the existing rivers? Or somehow work the rivergen in to the land generation code...idk
Thanks anyway man!!! Keep it up!

Thanks for the feedback! You're right, extending existing rivers is not yet possible. I'll try to add this feature to the next release, if not, it's definitely going to be in the release after that.
