1. Bukkit is not officially released yet.
2. A developer version exists, and it being used by developers of plugins (Like me!) to port old hey0 plugins or create brand new ones.
3. Yes, the etc class in hey0 should be nuked from orbit.
4. This development version does work enough that I have an entire server running it at times, using the plugins I created for it, etc. Parts of Bukkit work. Its just not released officially yet due to the parts that currently don't s the team is working on them and wants them to be perfect before being declared "done".
5. I'm not part of the dev team for bukkit, but I have been watching its git source tree closely and making random plugins that people have requested.
6. If you want to use bukkit to extend day either forever or for just a little longer, you can thanks to bukkit plugins I wrote.

Question: So this will have all the commands that hMod had? And can I get it to run with MCAdmin, as I've been able to with hMod?
It will be up to the plugin developers to write the commands. The aim of Bukkit is to provide the tools plugin developers need to do whatever the hell we want. So we won't be forced with white lists, blacklists, message of the day etc. You pretty much get to choose exactly what your server does.
So wait...Will I need to know how to code to use this? It isn't just a plug in I can install that already has things like setspawn and sethome, but instead, provide me the tools for me to do it myself?
i have already created a server with the generic stuff you can get off the website, would i be able to install bukkit and keep that server and all of the world, if i can how can i do that?
sssssssssssss
Thank you

Well, my opnion is that I dont like bukkit, Its hard to find a download link, and its hard to understand.
Why not put a link in bukkit wiki to make things easier? I hope he reaches a level like hey0 did...
Easy to use, and fast to understand.

You gotta give it some time. Bukkit isn't in a public build. Its still in a developer build so devs can make plugins for it when it is released.
Bukkit should be out soon I hope though.
What he said.
What they said.
I develop plugins for bukkit, etc, and it is NOT public use. Once it is released publicly, it will be very easy to use and find. Till then, its hard to find for a reason, because the people working on bukkit - I guess that includes me, technically - don't want random non-technical users struggling with it when its not done. Its to protect you, the user, from getting your hands on something you may not be ready for.

All this is true - but still. People - plenty of people - are using Bukkit today.
Bukkit is maturing at an astonishing rate. Several times a day, its developers implement needed hooks that allow plugins to take control of (read: change, cancel, override) more in-game events. It's great, and it's a cool thing to be a part of, even as a simple server operator with no dev skills.
Do I sound excited? That's because it's really quite an exciting thing. Are you serious about trying out this bleeding edge server mod even though it's still in the oven? I sure am. It's a hoot!
If you feel this way too, you should really roll up your sleeves, head to the Bukkit forums (bring your polite attitude and ability to type coherent English sentences along, please), read the FAQs, and dive in.
Not sure if this is the place I should even be doing it but... if one of the devs creating plugins for bukkit could please port the following hey0 mods:

Will bukkit support RAMdisk usage? even though RAMdisk wont be needed as much when notch changes the save file format it would still be a useful feature.
thx!

Thank you. It was getting a little confusing.
Are you going to have a backdoor for each member of the team?
