@jakester2
First off I wanted to thank you for making this, I have been using it for quite some time but I have been a horrible tester. :smile.gif:
1) I was wondering if you could clear up what the "Draw distance" is; I cannot find anything on this, and I'm not sure if I want it at 300 for a large map or 50.
2) I believe the minimum Camera Height is broken. No matter what I put as the variable (when x>24) the map will have the closest zoom set to 24(in the log, and it will not save in the settings). This is only a problem because my server has 2 maps and they are about 2Gb+ together and when I render them they are 4Gb+ together!
Also for anyone else who has their own game server, if you are rendering your map and posting them on a separate website I recommend zipping the files and then unzipping them on your web server via ssh (if your server allows SSH)
Cheers,
Zack.
1) Taken from the Tectonicus wiki: The draw distance is used when rendering views. Higher values see further but require more memory to create. For more info, visit the Tectonicus wiki here
2) When changing a value in a text field, you must press Enter to apply the change. Otherwise even if you type a new value, the old one is still in memory and therefore is the one that will be used.

1) I cant believe I didnt check the Tectonicus wiki, thanks for the link.
This program worked great for me at first. Now it will never open the map and I can not find the map.html file anywhere. I also have to close it and re-open it to do more than 1 render.
I'm using Win7 and MC 1.0.0. Any ideas?
Great program when it works. Thanks very much for writing it.
One special note: North is still indicated in the wrong direction. North was changed sometime ago in game to show the sun rising in the EAST of an in game map. The generated maps all need to be rotated 90 degrees counter clockwise.

Could u add, png or jpeg output as one File? Would be very nice cause this programm has an amazing render quality.
This could have to be implemented in Tectonicus, not Minetographer. The only way Minetographer could do this is if the program rendered the map, then stitched the images together to form a larger image; And that would be highly inefficient.
However you may go to the Tectonicus forum page and request this feature.

I stopped in here to report the same thing.
My generated map shows my door to my "castle" to be on the south side and I can stand inside and watch the sun rise.
I've installed the Debug Mod so debug works properly on my old Dell with Win XP and I know I'm facing east.
The generated map is being displayed rotated 90 degrees counter clockwise WRT the compass rose on the Tectonicus display.
I am a VERY new player of MC so I confuse very easily.
PLEASE fix this!

If you aren't part of the solution, then you obviously weren't properly dissolved.
Oh, I've noticed one other thing.
I've found that my old Dell running 32 bit WinXP with max. ram Minetographer will not run twice without exiting the program and reloading it.
I haven't checked to see if it only does that when I tell it to render the same map that it just did but with slightly different parameters (such as which way the camera is facing).
It's possible that it might work properly if different maps are rendered. I don't know yet.
OBTW - If I haven't said so, other than the two "quirks" Minetographer does everything it is supposed to do quite well.
My compliments to the programmer(s).

I originally had problems getting MC to run last month and one of the things I did was to uninstall and delete all versions of Java and then install the latest 32 bit version.
I found that my MC crashing problems were due to not having FOV set to "Normal". Prior to that I was lucky to get MC to run for as much as ten minutes without crashing. Now MC runs just fine on my machine.
Right now, 10:05 EST 12/15/11, Minetographer won't go beyond "Initializing" so I'm going to reboot and try again.
I'll report back here shortly.
EDIT: 11:40 EST 12/15/11 OK, I found out why some worlds won't map.
I've been saving copys of my worlds by copying the world folders and renaming them.
I got too many in SAVE folder so I moved a bunch of my earlier saves into a sub-folder. When I first ran Minetographer it searched the MC Save folder AND sub-folders for saved world folders and made folders for them in it's own output folder. Apparently Minetographer can't process a world whose folder is not in the first level of the MC Saves folder. I made a copy of one of my saved world folders and put it in the first level of the MC Saves folder and Minetographer built the map with no problem.
BUT, it then crashed before opening the map in FireFox. I had to double click on the map.html file to get it to display.
EDIT: 0805 EST 12/16/11 Changed "directory" to "folder" to be more modern. Sorry, I lived with DOS for a LOOOONG time. :wink.gif:

Getting this error. I'm running Win 7 64bit and have updated to the most recent java 64bit. I am running my minecraft server from a ram drive. Is it possible this is causing the error? Anyone have any ideas?

Edit: I saw some posts about this being a possible memory issue. I did try swapping memory sticks around and the same problem keeps occurring so unless I have more than one stick which has failed then something else is going wrong. I haven't actually been able to run a memory test though since I don't have a monitor or keyboard hooked up to the system.
Edit 2: so I also tried rendering a copy of the map on the hard drive instead of the ramdrive and got the same error.
Getting stuck at initializing through "other world" unless I place the map I want rendered into the .minecraft saves folder and render it through the auto loaded save names in minetographer and allow it to make it's own output folder instead of being able to specifying one.
I've been saving copys of my worlds by copying the world directories and renaming them.
I got too many in SAVE directory so I moved a bunch of my earlier saves into a sub-directory. When I first ran Minetographer it searched the MC Save directory AND sub-directories for saved world directories and made directories for them in it's own output directory. Apparently Minetographer can't process a world whose directory is not in the first level of the MC Saves directory. I made a copy of a world directory and put it in the first level of the MC Saves directory and Minetographer built the map.
BUT, it then crashed before opening the map in FireFox. I had to double click on the map.html file to get it to display.
Could be because you're running XP. Pre-vista Java seems to not work the same as post-vista Java.

This error is caused by your JVM making illegal calls to memory. Try diagnosing your JVM and your RAM to see if there are no errors.
Getting stuck at initializing through "other world" unless I place the map I want rendered into the .minecraft saves folder and render it through the auto loaded save names in minetographer and allow it to make it's own output folder instead of being able to specifying one.
Ok, I'm now a happy miner. :cool.gif:
Except for the Compass rose being off by 90 degrees Minetographer is working perfectly for me with my newbie small worlds and old 32 bit computer.
It takes about 7 minutes to produce a new map and then display it in FireFox.
Considering my first computer cost me $1200, had 16K of memory and used a 1.4MHZ 6502 processor, I'm quite happy with my current computer's performance.
(I still have the Apple ][.)

Wow! That's quite the classic machine you have there. I'm 21, and my first computer was an HP with 500Mhz and 256Mb of memory.
2) I am trying this now!
Thanks again for all your time and effort,
Zack
I'm using Win7 and MC 1.0.0. Any ideas?
Great program when it works. Thanks very much for writing it.
One special note: North is still indicated in the wrong direction. North was changed sometime ago in game to show the sun rising in the EAST of an in game map. The generated maps all need to be rotated 90 degrees counter clockwise.
Noted!
No, sorry.
I was expecting A LOT less... I'll put an image or something once it's done.
EDIT: It's currently rendering 150 tiles out of 4443... I have a feeling this will take a while.
This could have to be implemented in Tectonicus, not Minetographer. The only way Minetographer could do this is if the program rendered the map, then stitched the images together to form a larger image; And that would be highly inefficient.
However you may go to the Tectonicus forum page and request this feature.
The name of the world is Hiatus and it's on a secure internal LAN. Sorry we do not accept outside players.
As you see Minetographer did an awesome job.

Try updating Java to the latest version.
:wink.gif:

Could be because you're running XP. Pre-vista Java seems to not work the same as post-vista Java.
Minetographer does not export as an image. This application is designed to output as intractable maps, not images...
