Version 1.2.0 works with Minecraft 1.7.2 worlds and should fix those black/red boxes in the map view (incorrectly indicates corrupt chunks). For quicker updates look at the subreddit or my blog. I don't really browse these forums that often.
This release fixes many bugs, and adds support for some Minecraft 1.7.2 blocks that unfortunately got omitted in the previous release (Acacia & Dark Oak Stairs/Slabs).
The bugfixes in this release are mostly related to the launcher or the command-line interface. The launcher is now at version 1.5. Previous versions of the launcher abruptly terminated if Chunky failed to launch correctly. The new launcher will show some error messages if Chunky fails to launch, and will not abruptly shut down. The launcher error messages can hopefully help to diagnose and eventually fix problems some users are experiencing with Chunky failing to launch.
The 'Biomes' map view is useful, but there are so many biomes now that it's hard to tell what you're looking at. Could you add in a key, showing which color stands for what biome?

This could be done. I'll add it to the issue tracker!
I know people say it can't be done and/or that it would be just too much work, but I just wanted to put it out there that I would love to see this awesome program have the ability to render modded Minecraft. Even if it was something manual where the program would ask the user to point it towards the mod files which contains the ids and textures... I don't have the solution, but just thought I'd let you know.
I used to use it for my server, but since adding a few mods, I am unable to provide renders of player's build since they all invariably contain the dreaded black and red X boxes.
Regardless, keep up the good work. It is a wonderful tool still and I appreciate the work put into it thus far.
I don't know how people do it, but I have never been able to get this to render anything that is useable. I mean useable as in
is all I can ever get out of this thing. Even copying the settings others have posted that they used gives pretty much that. Both of those are 500SPP, and I've seen stunning shots at that range. But no matter the settings I pick, no matter how high I crank settings, no matter if it takes 5 minutes to 5 hours, it comes out grainy.
Even the default settings give me that. I don't know what I'm doing wrong or what. I really wanted this for screenys for my pack..
Hey I love this renderer, but is there a way to fix this problem?
I don't know how to use spoilers, sorry. It looks almost perfect, I wanna cry. this was rendered at 1920x1080 resolution, for 2000 frames (or whatever those things are.) How do you go about fixing the grainy lighting? do I need to turn down the light intensity?
Is anybody else using Chunky having issues with the Flows HD Revival pack? Whenver I select it in the menu, it goes straight to the default texture pack like it can't read Flows.

What if their was a tutorial on how to adds blocks to Chunky? For example, as Minecraft updates, more blocks will need to be added to Chunky. If their was a tutorial for how to do this, then people in the community could create the blocks from whatever mod they wish to do so with.
Pretty much like mod support for resource-packs, the community creates it and then gives it to the pack to be added for others to use too.
I don't know anything about modding though, so I'm not sure if there is anything preventing this method of being possible.
I really like being able to use night time mode in other mappers tho and having torchlight show up on the map so I can see where I've lit up.
Is it possible to add a nightime map mode that would show torches and their light?
Also, would it be possible to do isometric on the map mode?
Also, is there a way to select multiple chunks at once or is clicking each individually the only way to select a bunch?
It is already possible to make nightime scenes, but it doesn't depend from the sun (negative values of sun height is still unimplemented). When you open a render control panel, you can go to 'post-processing' and decrease the exposure value. Lower values, darker scenes. Then you have to disable sunlight.
At that point you can test your renderings. Remember that decreasing exposure, means that everything in the scenes is darker, even torches and glowstone. So you may have to modify 'light emitters intensity' ad increase it, to brighter torches.
No, using Shift+Mouse Sx you will select a region, not single chunks. If you want to deselect a region you can use Ctrl+Shift+Mouse Sx.
By night time map mode, I mean the map part where you select chunks, not renders.
Good to know about shift clicking for regions, thatll be less time consuming.
This program is great. Though I do have a problem... When I try to render a picture with torches or glowstone in it I get this very grainy picture where all the pixels are divided. Is there a way to fix this with emitters enabled?
