Instead of a password or a combination (which make time to compose and will be boring to do again and again) isn't it better to make a "key system" ?
We enchant a chest with a rune with a signature combination like the waypoints systems.(We can keep your rune)
= iron block
After that we make a rune to enchant a tool and transform it into a key. For exemple :
After that, the tool/key will be able to open any chest which correspond to the combination used to enchant the key.
I think this system has the advantage to be more easy to use. And more, it give you the possibility to create more than a single key and give them to your friends/guild/who-you-want.
You can chose between giving a single key or the key-recipe if you really trust your friend.
yes i like that idea better then my own, i just think couldn't think of a good idea for a key. (was stuck thinking teleporter key)
i had a better idea for a double chest.
it may not seem like it but it is actually cheaper to do both at once.
the key maker would stay the same, i really like it.
though it begs the question should the 'key' be limited use?
OK, I didn't see it anywhere else in the thread so I am going to ask this question.
Would it be possible to password protect chests?
i'm taking this idea and changing it to an enchantment,
now i present to you 'the lockout':
= iron block
now what it does is it lock your chest based on the nine block combination in the area, and the chest will not open unless you have the combination. next is the reason there is iron blocks, it makes the chest unbreakable, and if possible it is no clip meaning players can walk through it. (as to prevent greefers from making an unbreakable wall.)
also there could be a two chest version
so what do you think?
Excellent idea. Just swung it by Llama and it is going to be implemented. He will intercept right clicks co you cannot open it without the key. Excellent idea, +1 Notch for you!

read the edited version i just posted above you, and the ideas by Arnoldinus. his key idea is brilliant, and i much prefer the new version of the double chest over the old one

Hey love the mod, only problem I see is that while Vertical hidden passage works if you try and build multiple tiers to make it longer, I have been unable to do the same while doing it horizontal. Which I think would be awesome for Draw bridges =)
MOD EDIT: I think you can throw a few more sentences in there. This post is so short that it makes very little sense in context with the current discussion.
Also, one-word posts are frowned upon.
A bit more substance please.
BEDELELEET DEDEE! I HELPED ON SOMETHING THAT IS GOING TO BE IMPLEMENTED! YEAH!

Hey for the locked chest, each person should only be able to make 1 (either single or double). A lot of the fun of multi-player is having to protect your stuff by hiding it underground, or using hidden passageways in runecraft. Also, will the no-clip thing actually work? I would think that would be a client side thing, which would again be a good reason to allow each person only 1 (which would still allow each person to create 1 invincible block, but not walls).
wait... are the chests going to be indescribable? if so will they remain that way when the initial rune is removed? if not what stops someone from breaking the rune and then breaking the chest?

s are brown cubes that you can store items in...
And now I suppose I have to contribute? I've got an idea for a pickaxe rune that would tell you on right click if there was air (Such as a cave or basement, or the surface) within a certain distance (determined by tier blocks?) in the direction of the block you clicked on (But only in the basic cardinal directions + up and down). I can't really think of a good design for this rune, but maybe a hollow 3x3 or 5x5 cube with tier blocks in the centre of the faces? Something like this:
= Tier block
= Cobblestone (NO WAI!)
[] = Air (Orly?)
What about a kind of cauldron which could be used for alchemy or spells ? I'm thinking about something like this :
3x3x2
1st row :
2nd row :
Maybe we can add torchs on a 3rd row. Doesn't matter, it's just an exemple.
During rituals we put some items in the cauldron (so in the chest of course) and after that we activate it. This will produce some magic effect depending of what we put in the chest.
This way it'll be interesting to create differents alchemy's recipes like for exemple : 10 iron ingots + 5 redstone => 1gold ingot or 10 dirt + 10 gravel + 1 redstone => 10 sand ....
Possibility are multiples.
Basically we put the ingredients (ex: 10 +5 redstone) in the cauldron/chest, we activate the cauldron and when we open the cauldron/chest again the ingredients have disappeared, transmutated in the result (ex : )
Possibly we can add that some recipes need a high quality cauldron. So for exemple the transmutation of iron to gold could need a cauldron composed of tier3 materials. Or some recipes could need a cauldron composed of a specific material.
An other way to explore : it could be interesting to create runes which incorporate cauldron in the center. Like this we'll be able to use non-blocks items (like sticks, bread, eggs, armors, ...) in the magic rituals. We put them in the cauldron, trace the rune and activate to produce some rune effect. The ingredients are consummate in the process of course.
The could be either a fire or a torch. (For fire, there would have to be another layer beneath with a log, but it would look a lot better).
This way, our caldron would really be cooking!
Also, could I take this oppertunity to request a "dispel" rune? Something that could only dispel school-unrestricted spells would be nice. Asking because I almost always use the longest lasting flight spell, and most of the time it is more than I need, making moving around difficult. Plus, if we somehow rig it up to work with pressure plates and the like, we could make awesome spell-removal traps.
Well, the fire under the cauldron is interesting. But for me the cauldron is too huge with your version. I voluntary proposed a quite small cauldron because it can be more easily inserted into buildings this way. And more, if the idea of making rune with a cauldron in the center is kept, we'll need at least a 7x7 rune with your big cauldron whereas mine only need at least 5x5.
An other reason : if you need a high tier cauldron, your version really need a lot of precious materials ! :biggrin.gif: Mine already need 17 tier blocks which is quite important if you need gold blocks i think...
Yours use 16 more tier blocks so : 33 tier blocks ! x) Just hope you won't need a diamond cauldron with your cauldron... x)
Hmm, I didn't think of that.... How about this, then?
1st row:

2nd row :
3rd row :
This means it still has the fire and supports, while keeping size contraints down. Only downsides are the increased vertical height and the fact you can't use it without a stepladder. Though walking up a small staircase or a ladder to look into a bubbling caldron seems pretty neat, I don't think it would suit everyone...
Unless we can think of something else, we may have to dump the fire idea. :sad.gif:
I have an interesting idea, and I was wondering if it was at all possible to have some runes that could be triggered via redstone mechanics? One such example is having a hidden door built into the floor of a dungeon hallway, and it would open when someone or something stepped on a trigger plate. The offender would be dumped into some sort of pit trap full of water, cacti, lava, etc. It's something that's been eating at the back of my head for the past few days, and I'd love to hear the answer.
