I've bolded the bit I'm referring to but I wonder if you really mean chunks or do you actually mean blocks?
If you mean chunks then that would make your map 40000x48000 blocks which is a massively huge size and I don't know if any home computer could currently handle that. I'll assume you mean blocks and that you just mixed the two terms up.
If it is your computer it would probably be due to not having enough memory (4Gb should be okay). But by no means am I saying that this is the problem, please don't go out and immediately get more memory.
You didn't state which version of MCEdit you are using so my first suggestion would be to try the latest candidate build for 0.1.6 from the main site linked in the OP. Part of the changelog states that: 'Very large selections can be exported again.' This may solve your problem as that size would definitely class as a very large selection.
If it doesn't work try cutting the area in half and saving out two selections, then quarters if that doesn't work. It's not ideal but it's workable.
ok thanks! the memory is defiantly not the problem (nearly 800 unused GB) and as MCEdit stops responding it may be fixed with 0.1.6 (using 0.1.5) so I will just use that.
P.S. yea i did mean chunks really huge map, I don't see why there would be a huge export problem aside from taking really really long though?
When ever I try to open MCEdit, a window pops up saying "MCEdit has encountered a fatal error, and will now terminate." I gives me the option to "Terminate" or "Open Console" and when I click on both of them they do nothing. I have a MacBook Pro FYI. Please help!
I want to make a small filter, but stuck in the middle. How do you change the second number of block's ID? I mean [53:4]'s 4 (I can change the 53 by setBlockAt method.) Please give me a hint!
When I open a load or save box my mouse pointer stops working and I have to use the tab key to naviagte. Is there anything that can be done about that? Is it a known issue? I have teh latest version - MCEdit_dev-0.1.6build335.win32
Thanks.
PS: Why won't the Follow function on this thread work?Oh yes - and why do chests have the stone texture in MCE?

There is setBlockDataAt method!
I'm having an issue when placing structures inside solid objects (namely placing a stronghold inside a mountain).
I have an extracted "bare" stronghold. When importing it with "copy air" enabled it carves out a massive cube of space that the stronghold floats in. When importing with "copy air" unchecked it fills all the rooms of the stronghold with the surrounding stone.
How can I import it so that it's completely buried without filling all the rooms with the surrounding dirt/stone?
:edit: going to try filling the rooms with Sponge or something and then using the Replace function to replace the sponge with air after the stronghold has been imported into the mountain.
::edit:: fffffuuuu it's going to take forever to fill all these rooms. MCedit needs a multi-select function.
:::edit::: Decided to just replace the air in the entire square space of the structure with Glass and delete the glass on the outside of the structure. This has proven to be a huge undertaking >.<
MCEdit hangs for me whenever I try to use the "Create Chunk" control, with the option of running minecraft_server. I am using the latest stable build (version 0.1.5), on Windows XP, SP 3 and Minecraft 1.4.5.
I think it's caused by exactly the same issue that Minecraft Land Generator has under Windows XP - namely, there's a bug in Java in which processes spawned by ProcessBuilder or Runtime.exec have a tendency to hang. You can see my post on that issue here.
I found a solution that seems to work, however. Under Windows XP, MCEdit should run minecraft_server with the following command line:
cmd /c java -jar minecraft_server.jar <NUL
I got the idea from a stackoverflow page on a similar issue, although I admit I don't understand exactly how it works. It seems to feed a NUL character into the input stream that MCEdit gets from the minecraft_server process it spawned. I suppose the Java bug I'm referring to has something to do with it not buffering the input stream from Process objects properly, and that this fixes it?
Anyway, this fix worked perfectly for me on Minecraft Land Generator. Unfortunately, MCEdit doesn't give me the option of changing the command line it uses to execute minecraft_server, so I can't check whether it'll work here too, but it should since I'm pretty sure its the same issue.
EDIT:
Actually, the command I gave above will prevent minecraft_server from receiving the "stop" command from MCEdit. Instead, run minecraft_server with something like this:
cmd /c java -jar minecraft_server.jar < stop.txt
where the text file "stop.txt" contains just the command "stop" followed by a newline.
Does anyone know how i can remove the like big red square that comes up after i use the brush tool, its really annoying and gets in the way, it stays for like one second then disappears, but it happens every time i use it.
Your last post stated that you were using build 355. I just tried that version and had no trouble with either the schematic requester or the requester for opening a level.
Unfortunately, it may be on your end as I don't remember anyone having this problem before. I guess this doesn't happen with your other programs and I don't really know what to suggest either except to check the various settings for your mouse and try the latest MCEdit build, but that's pretty obvious.
Ah, ok. Thanks. I'll just keep tabbing and hope for the best with future versions. :-(
Ugh, sorry, but total MCEdit noob here. I'm in a bit of a panic. We had a corrupt chunk/block on our server, so I used MCEdit to delete. It worked like a charm, but I didn't realize MCEdit wasn't picking up any of the mod blocks. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong...can anyone direct me as to how I can get the editor to recognize mod blocks? Right now all mod blocks are grass or pistons etc...
MCEdit is an open source world editor for just about any version of Minecraft. MCEdit was first created to allow players to preserve anything built with several old versions of Minecraft and take them forward into newer versions of the game. It also aims to be forward-compatible with future (or even modified) versions of Minecraft. It has since been improved with brush tools for laying down blocks in different shapes, integration with the Minecraft Server to generate terrain using Minecraft’s own seed algorithms, support for multiplayer worlds, and editors for certain blocks including chests and mob spawners.
To get an idea of what MCEdit can do, just watch this tutorial/walkthrough by a famous mapmaker:
To download the latest MCEdit or report any problems you may have, head over to theofficial site. You can find downloads and other helpful links on the left sidebar, and news about the program's development will be posted regularly. If you want to share MCEdit, please only link to the official site at http://www.mcedit.net/. Don't upload MCEdit to a file sharing site or post links to the direct downloads. If you downloaded MCEdit from a site other than mcedit.net or github.com, you should be very suspicious.
MCEdit is continually under development. If you want to help, the simplest thing to do is download one of the "development" builds from the download page and play around with it. Post in this thread or on the issue tracker on GitHub if you find anything wrong. Be sure to include version (and build) numbers or your report won't be very helpful. Click on the Report an Issue link to find out what is needed for a helpful problem report.
A brief Frequently Asked Questions list is maintained on github. If your question isn't answered there, go ahead and post in this thread. If you think it should be included in the FAQ, just say so!
Features:
Navigate the world using familiar WASD controls and mouse aiming.
Show the locations of dropped items, game entities including monsters and villagers, hidden ores, plus blocks with TileEntities and other Minecraft internals.
Load saved games from current Minecraft versions, plus the older Classic and Indev versions.
Limited support for Minecraft Pocket Edition saved games
Export blocks and game entities as a .schematic file to be imported by MCEdit or compatible programs.
Automatically fixes wool colors when importing and exporting between Minecraft PC, Classic, and Pocket editions!
Double-click on a chest to change its contents, or double-click on a mob spawner to choose what spawns.
Brush tool “paints” blocks in a round, diamond, or square shape with configurable size. Different brush modes will add new blocks, replace blocks, alter the top layer of the terrain or wear it down to smooth out rough objects.
“Paste” brush allows you to import an object with a single click.
“Flood Fill” brush will change all blocks that form a connected mass.
Clone tool makes a copy of blocks and entities, optionally making multiple clones in a line or scaling the copy up or down.
Clone and Import tools can rotate an object around any axis, or flip it horizontally or vertically.
“Filter” plugins let users add functionality to MCEdit by writing Python code.
Move the world’s spawn point, automatically removing blocks to make sure the spawn point is acceptable to Minecraft.
Move and rotate any player in a single- or multiplayer world.
Expand or contract the world’s size by adding or deleting chunks. Chunks are the basis of Minecraft’s “infinite” saved game format.
Create new worlds or add chunks to existing worlds. The Minecraft Server can be harnessed to create natural terrain that meshes with the world’s existing seed. Flatlands can also be created at any height.
“Analyze” feature counts the block and entity types in a selected area, optionally saving them to a .csv file.
Maintenance commands can delete all blocks, entities, or chunks in a selected region. This is useful for getting a “corrupted” world back into a playable state.
I think that's because MCEdit treats doors like blocks. At least it works. I'm wondering when there's going to be Linux support again. It's been near a year now...
ok thanks! the memory is defiantly not the problem (nearly 800 unused GB) and as MCEdit stops responding it may be fixed with 0.1.6 (using 0.1.5) so I will just use that.

MCEdit 0.1.5 seems like it's doing it's job, but doesn't create any.
MCEdit 0.1.6RC display SessionLockLost error, can't start generator.
Thanks.
