Thanks for the program. I used it to put out a forest fire.
Did you manually delete the fire blocks, or did you delete those chunks so they would regenerate?
I tried the former, but there are dozens of trees on fire and a large area that has already burned. I was hoping to get some trees back (new trees since they'll regen).
I'm using alpha 94 linux and MC 1.3.01.
Edit: I've tried deleting a chunk to see if it would regenerate when I opened the world in MC, but that didn't work. How do I get a chunk to regenerate?
I also thought of using the replace function to replace all fire in the offending chunks with air. Also, I keep regular backups, so would it be possible for me to copy those chunks from a backup and put them in the current world?
so would it be possible for me to copy those chunks from a backup and put them in the current world?
That is exactly what I normally do. I've only tried deleting chunks and allowing them to regen once and it worked. Make sure you use the Chunk tool to delete them. Then walk to that area from someplace far enough away so that it will not have loaded when you entered the world.

i used replace for a forest fire of mine. and by regenerate you mean go back to its original state, correct? if you did then sadly (i'm pretty sure) you'll have to fill it in manually .... either use the "fill" or maybe a really deep topsoil filter thing. take your pick.

Hm. I bet your level.dat is damaged while your region files are still okay. Try copying over a level.dat from a working world into your broken one. You can use NEINEdit to edit the level.dat's LevelName after you copy it.
I can't explain the bug, though. I'll do some more testing on Snow Leopard to see if that's the problem.
thanks. i'll try that now, but since i cleaned my worlds and stuff of unwanted things (which reminds me...) i might have to purposely "overload" a world...
oh, and is it normal for a MCEdit world to start at 0.00MB then get bigger as you add to it (manually [my smallest world is like 4.45MB and my largest is 1.07])?

Thanks. I deleted the chunks, and it worked just fine for me. I skipped the chunks that I had mined in.

I used the chunk tool to delete the chunks. If you select some blocks, then select chunks, then delete, it will only replace those blocks with air. But, if you switch to the chunk tool once you've selected the chunks you're after, then you can delete the chunks from the file altogether, rather than simply deleting the blocks. This worked much better than replacing with air for most of the area since trees were replaced as well.
If the fire was over/in an area in which you've built/mined, then replacing the chunks this way doesn't work well, of course.

How can I delet all blocks of one sort?
Use the replace tool to replace that type with air. Have you found that tool but are having trouble using it?
I'm not sure how you would apply the change to the entire map in only a few steps (if that's what you need), but if it's only in a small area, this should be pretty simple to do. The replace tool seemed a bit non-intuitive to me, but just keep at it.
Hey I think I read somewhere that you were capable of preventing/fixing those chunk errors when using MCEdit. How do you do it?
Accidental left minecraft open while editing, walked outside my house and noticed zombies and the like staring in 1 direction motionless. Approached them and started glitching badly and figured this was that error. Was there a way to fix it? Cause I seem to remember seeing somewhere a way to do something about it and not have it be completely hopeless.
EDIT: The problem with the Chunk Redraw seems to be tied directly to the angle of the view.
Short answer: Move your mouse out of the window to tell MCEdit to prioritize chunk redraw over ordinary rendering.

I tried installing Mcedit and it did not work. I have tried to install it multiple times and have gotten the same error as above. I have also tried using MCEdit-alpha85 but this too has not worked. I'm running the same specs as the poster in quote. Any help would be nice. Thanks in advance.
You need to restart after installing python2.6, then install the other three dependencies.

bug: the the launcher script doesn't work (except in a common special case).
changing it to be like this makes it work regardless of the current directory
and the addition of exec also makes it more resource-effecient.
Removing the current directory requirement makes it easier to create a Desktop file (GUI launcher) for it.
Thank you! I'll be sure to include this in the next version.

Hey I think I read somewhere that you were capable of preventing/fixing those chunk errors when using MCEdit. How do you do it?
It should happen automatically on load if a certain corruption is detected. I still need to add a 'repair' button to do it on demand.

I have a problem with a mod. I used a modpack which contains Plasmacraft, Industrialcraft, and an inner inveditor. Now I want to remove that mod, but it causes my world crash every time when I try to start.
I want to search and delete the blocks of the mod that doesn't work without the mod. Please help me! How to search these blocks with MCEdit?
Find out the block IDs used by the mod, and then use the Fill/Replace tool to replace them with air. Also try using INVEdit to get them out of your inventory.

Running into a problem. Everything is working great except for the "set spawn point" feature. I set it and everything looks good but then when i die and respawn its putting me somewhere completely different. I am attempting to set my spawn in an enclosed structure . . . . could that have anything to do with it?
Yeah, some places aren't allowed as spawn points, and the game will relocate the spawn when you die. I don't know exactly what the rules are for where your spawn can be. I'd like it if someone could figure that out and make a thread about it.

I have been using MCEdit for months now, and LOVE IT. only one problem i just discovered:
.lvl files are crazy looking when opened. I tried converting it to a dat, but that did not work. in the level, it is a
256x256x256 map that is empty of grass or stone and just a hole of adminium. it has a coliseum in it, plus a few other buildings. is there a way to efficiently convert it .lvl a .dat? Can an update be released opening .lvls? is there a way to open them? thanks for any help!
--Cowpow16
.lvl file, that's from MCSharp or some other server, right? First, use WoM to dump the server to a dat. Then, use Omen to convert it to .mclevel format. Finally, use MCEdit to import the .mclevel into a modern world.
EDIT: The problem with the Chunk Redraw seems to be tied directly to the angle of the view.
Short answer: Move your mouse out of the window to tell MCEdit to prioritize chunk redraw over ordinary rendering.
Luckily, this doesn't seem to happen all the time. It took me a little while just now to find a place and view angle where this is a problem. Moving the mouse to the Windows Task Bar does work in updating what I've done, but a quick right-click angle change is much faster. I can't fathom why at one angle it updates properly and at another angle, working with the same area, it doesn't update properly. Regardless, it is still a pain when it occurs.
"WARNING: YOU MUST EXIT MINECRAFT COMPLETELY BEFORE EDITING.
If you leave Minecraft running while using MCEdit, the clash will corrupt your saves. Why this happens."
Does this also happen if you for example run a server and play minecraft on it, while using MCedit to edit an entirely different world at the same time?
OK the map follows this diagram, basically meaning the following.
Each Square is a 1024x1024x128 Flat Map, with a 1 block large bedrock base followed by 62 up dirt, then a top layer of grass so there is 64 blocks of air, then a 1 block large wall around the whole map which is the Black in each square.
In Short I want CodeWarriors' map here: viewtopic.php?f=1012&t=28474
Just multiplied into 9 diffrent regions instead of that one, if it is done I will give you my Server IP and give you a improved rank plus anything you need. I would do it myself with MCEdit but it lags the **** out of me.
ok so i download MCedit but when i click on play it says this the application has failed to start becase its side-by-side configuration is incorrect please see the application event log for more detail i just dont know what to do
Make sure you have the C++ redistributable installed (the link is in the downloads section). You might have to uninstall and reinstall it, or make sure you have the right version (x86 vs x64) for your system.

Probably not, since it only happens if Minecraft has opened the world since it started up.
Also, here's a cool tutorial I found that I want to share. I didn't make it.

Maybe you can help me out, OK well I want the 9 areas like I said in my last post, but I need a EXACT 1000 blocks away from each other, how would I go about doing this with the clone tool?
I am having a problem with leaves decaying when not attached to a piece of wood - is it possible to alter how leaves decay (ie. forcing a block to never decay) in mcedit?
The problem is that I have several areas that are made from leaves (non-decay). The moment you break a leaf block the entire area decays. Rather annoying. There is a solution but it is a horrid one - adding wood blocks every 4 tiles to prevent decay. There has to be another way to prevent leaf decay.
Codewarrior, I love your program and use it constantly for editing our server map. Would you be open to the suggestion of placing NESW markers on the horizon, for navigation? It can be hard sometimes to dead reckon where I have to fly to.
This is not a bug. But a suggestion. I got an error at first: "RuntimeError: Bad magic number in .pyc file"
I figured this was due to my updated python version, which was python 3, not 2.6. Evidently, pyc/pyo files are very picky about the python versions they were built with. I'm asking if you could compile/build those files for python 3.
