Well judging by the looks of it compared to the last attempt of an Avatar mod I would say that it's going to turn out awesome. Can't wait to try it out.
Yep, the last avatar mod was pretty.. derp. I hope that this mod will be able to provide a better experience.
This was a busier week than normal for me, and due to tiredness (and the discovery of Civilizations 5), it has been slightly less productive. However, rest assured that the mod is chugging along as usual and content is being rapidly produced.
As I said last week, there are 2 new abilities. One of them is the Ravine ability. This allows earthbenders to create a mini ravine which acts a powerful ranged attack. This pushes mobs back and deals damage, but only works on flat terrain. It can be used more defensively than block throwing, though is slightly less versatile.
GIF:
Ravine in action.
The second new ability is the Flamethrower ability. Firebenders can create short-range clouds of fire capable of dealing some damage to nearby enemies. However, further balancing of the mod (i.e. fatigue) will make it less overpowered. In the end, I will balance firebending towards close combat, so this new ability represents a lot of what we are going to see of firebenders.

Flames will actually bounce back off of the surface they touched. We now have actual physics!
Finally, discussions are open. I encourage people to share any ideas- a good discussion will only make the mod better!
Still looking awesome @CrowsOfWar , keep up the good work!

Revan : You are just a travelling piece of bad luck, aren't you? HK-47 : Objection: Master, that is so unfair! Have I not brought you a great deal of satisfaction? Revan : You don't want to hear the answer to that. HK-47 : Statement: You are a very harsh master, master. I like you.
Unfortunately, this week has been really busy for me, meaning that I haven't got much energy or time for modding. On top of that, I'm feeling a bit under the weather, but next week will most likely be more productive.
However, a new waterbending ability is coming. As a small feature, I added tab-completion to the /avatar command.
The development continues in the sixth week since posting.
Currently, I am working on a Wave ability for waterbending. This is actually pretty similar to the Ravine... but it's waterbending, so why not?
The wave is currently set-up and working, but it looks a bit very stupid... Unfortunately, waves are hard to create, considering water in Minecraft is completely flat (without shaders). Please let me know if you have any suggestions.
Finally, I have been working on configuration files for the past few days. Instead of using the default configuration system (provided by Minecraft Forge), I opted for YAML. This is a format for configuration files which is similar to JSON (which commandblockers should be familiar with) but looks a whole lot cleaner. This represents another step closer to an alpha release!
As always, please tell me useful things...
...because sometimes I don't know the crap of what I'm doing.
I like the idea of being able to have the menu open while walking around. Looking great still

Oh my.. I seem to have forgotten about updates again! It's the eighth week of development.
This week, I have done further code changes. The benefit of these internal changes is that it causes less headaches and more flexibility for me But don't worry, there's also some neat changes as well...
The main thing is that there are icons for controls:
[
[
Internally, the whole system of controls was reworked. This means that the icons are actually saved, can be sent across the network, etc. Very boring stuff.
Secondly, and a bit more exciting, there is a new ability in Airbending: the air jump. It allows you to jump up to 5 blocks in the air. You have to select from the radial menu, then the next jump will be increased. You aim the jump via your rotations.
( GIFs take forever to make. I'll add a quick video once we get more content of airbending )
Hopefully airbenders will have a set of abilities which allows them to navigate the world more freely than other players.
Just a thought, but maybe when the Avatar goes Avatar State, in first person the Avatar could get a bit of white glow around their view. Not obscuring the Minecraft hud (tool bar, health, hunger, exp) but giving the idea of cosmic power. C=
I really like this mod and where it's going. Looking forward to the first public release!
If I have some time in the future I will be more then happy to pitch in with minor development tasks.
One suggestion I wanna throw in there from a technical perspective. Always keep in mind that this is Minecraft (blocks and pixels), so don't get too worked out over getting the most smooth and FPS intensive animations out there. Just having block movements (like water for example) move two times in a second should be perfectly sufficient for what you're trying to do. Plus, you will get that vintage feel to your mod
Great to see another fan!
Thanks for the tip about animations. I suppose that my dreams of having a movie-like experience are a bit too ambitious... it's always fun to think that way. I'll be sure to be realistic with the development (though I kinda already spoiled myself when I started using Shaders).
I look forward to any further suggestions you have.

That video was fudgy brilliant. O_O
You are going to change the face of Minecraft as we know it!!

Another week brings the third weekly update.
So far, I have been re-designing a lot of code for earthbending. This has made the floating block code more manageable and less glitchy.
In addition, I have introduced a new ability for earthbending- a small ravine. More information will be given next week.
Finally, I have just started a new firebending ability, which will hopefully be pretty cool.
The plan right now is to have at least 2 abilities for each bending, then release a preview version of this mod for anyone to play around with.
Any feedback, especially on your most wanted abilities, would be appreciated.

Don't worry... it's not dead!
Here's the seventh weekly update...
I've been continuing with configuration files. Mostly everything is setup now, though it will still take a bit longer to complete it.
I'm also attempting to get the radial menus to allow walking while opened- so you can still move around while you select an ability.
Overall, I think it's about time to start cramming in all these extra features and get an alpha release in the next month...

An alpha release? Sweet Penguin Seals!! That's awesome!

Yeah.. though the menus are a *bit* hard to use in combat, I'm trying to make it better. Hopefully, it will improve over time!
Yeah... but remember: it's gonna be unstable.

Yaay! My ideas are useful! =D

this mod looks cool so far, good job
i have some ideas to you for Airbending
1. 1 mob knockback just like the earth benders first abilty you showed but instead it moves the mob back without hurting him with air of course
2. all mobs 5/4 blocks nearby gets thrown away no hurting too but instead they will get hurt from the fall damage
anyways great job keep going
