Seems if you make a pick that has copper (possibly other mod ores) in it when you break ores (even iron) it doesn't drop the ore.
Hmm, I haven't actually tested the ores from other mods. My initial thinking is that the harvest level of a pure copper pick is too low. I will have to see if this is the case and readjust copper properties.

It's be nice if we could change properties within the config.
Different copper tools from different mods means different properties right?

Right now I am using the ore dictionary, so as long as mods register their copper ingots, blocks, etc. in the ore dictionary they should work with amalgam and they should all have the same properties. Allowing properties to be set in the config is definitely doable and a good idea! I will add it to the list of things to do.
Infusing an amalgam tool/armour with a shroom?
It would have a very huge (but not too much) negative effect on the tool/armour's properties.
Furthermore, since you have no idea what the shroom's effect is going to be, it might be risky.
This would probably encourage people to make even more tools/armour to find the right effect hence keeping the mod fun.
If someone found out how to make the ultimate tool/armour, it'd be less fun since they can't experiment much anymore.
So adding the element of randomness 🎲 is a great way to keep Amalgam more entertaining!
Of course, this depends if you're willing to continue developing the mod after the hassle with MS owning Mojang is over

When you do, please add a multiplier option.
What would it do?
Multiplies all the default properties (Except enchantibility).
It's for people who play with other mods that have OP mobs with crazy abilities, health, strength! 👻
Amalgam would be a bit redundant if the tool/armour aren't very effective against these mobs.

If i could suggest anything should you keep developing the mod. i'd like to see a system put in where Amalgam freshly taken from the crucible. Isn't as good as say amalgam that has been cooled and reheated. Think of it akin to like folding steel. Find the balance of ingredients then heat and cool the amalgam through a act of tempering to be precise. Temper the amalgam then fold it to get different properties. Almost like a old japanese sword maker does.

Seeing that there have been over 300 downloads it seems there is still interest in this mod. I will try to release an update with some of the requested features this weekend. I may be inspired to expand the mod into more tech-oriented stuff as well.

I am about half way through making Amalgam compatible with EVERY OTHER MOD IN EXISTENCE! That is right, using an in-game GUI you will be able to add any item or block from any mod to be used with amalgam (ores, ingots, nuggets, dusts, gems, anything you want can be melted into amalgam!). You can also define the amalgam properties for each item and block usable with Amalgam. If you think diamonds deserve to be stronger, go ahead and increase the density/malleability/hardness/luster of diamonds in the GUI. If you want gold to be weaker, go ahead and adjust its properties. Everything is completely configurable.
Anything? Yay, now I can make that sword made of Ignis Crystals and Ghast Tears that I've always wanted... (who knows, this combination might actually be really good) Also this...this is one of the most amazing ideas for a mod I've ever seen. AND IT'S SO SIMPLE (seemingly...)
I would give you several diamonds if I knew how...

You can turn on/off the disabled tools and armors in the config file. I don't remember if crafting normal tools and armor is disabled by default, if it is I will change it.

I wished there was a way to use an all diamond amalgam sword for a recipe that required a vanilla diamond sword,
I like the amalgam way of tool crafting.
Probably too hard to code in though.
What about adding an ingredient in a crucuible and the result will be a vanilla tool?
All diamond + [something] = Vanilla diamond tool?
That way I don't need to enable the crafting of tools in the config.

Based on the way I coded things I think this should be possible. I will have to check if the properties of the amalgam used to craft a sword are the same as the properties of diamond, then I can return a diamond sword instead of an amalgam sword. It won't be difficult to program and I can add an option for it.
This mod looks REALLY cool, and I seriously hope you continue with it, even if you don't like whats going on with Microsoft an Mojang... this mod has really caught my attention, and if you continue making it, may end up in my personal modpack... However, if you really don't want to continue with it, that's fine, its your choice. Also @modobserver what I can gather from the talk on the thread, the amount of a certain item, eg. Diamond put into the amalgam will effect eg. the sharpness ability on the amalgam. I'm not saying diamonds directly effect sharpness, but I think its something like that. Think of it like TiC, but instead of making a tool out of a stationary set of abilities on a single ingot, think of it as TiC-ing the ingot itself. That's how I think of it anyways, I'm not sure if that's how mm4cc intended it to be thought of, but that's how I think of it, and its a REALLY cool concept.
This is a brilliant mod, I'm surprised it hasn't been done before. I have a small (maybe, I don't know how the mod's coded so I have no idea) suggestion. Could Tinkers' Construct support be implemented somehow? For example, melting solidified amalgam in a smeltery?
I'm always looking for the latest and greatest mods to try out and tech mods such as this that stay true to the basics of minecraft that don't add complicated crafting or energy systems are always the best. I wish you much luck with the mod and hope it goes down as being one of the greatest mods ever created for the game.

I know there are still a lot of bugs in the mod such as enchants not working and default properties not being balanced, but I think I will come back to the mod once forge is out for 1.8 and fix everything up. I am too busy right now to work on Amalgam, and I also want to see where Microsoft stands with regards to modding before I continue to put time into this.
I halfway implemented a system to allow any ore from any mod to be used in Amalgam, and to allow the user to set all material properties to whatever they wanted. This would fix many of the problems people are having with picks not being able to mine certain things (e.i. increase the hardness of iron in the config and you would be able to mine redstone with it). I need to dig deeper into enchanting to fix enchants not working though. Again, I probably won't get around to fixing these things until 1.8 comes out but thanks for your support everyone.

Love amalgam, particularly my amalgam armor.
Noticed that Pure Iron Picks aren't breaking redstone ore, or other things at that mining level.
We're having difficulty getting mod copper to go into amalgams, is it intended to be ore only?
Thanks for composing and coding this mod.
